It's easier to close any thread about external sites than to read them and close selectively. It just is. Moderating is a [censored]ingly pita job, and sometimes you simply dont have the time to play selective. I can understand their stand, got to moderate a semi-big forum once through the night hours for 3-4 months, 200-400 post reports an hour, + direct help requests... *shrug*
Yeah, I'm sure it was due solely to their trying to adhere to any established guidelines and practices, rather than any maliciousness or ignorance. I don't think a discussion about a new modder's resource portal clearly fits into any existing category in these forums. It's about mods, yes - it's about external sites, yes (but not what I'd call a fan site). Like Blank says, they've got so much to handle moderator-wise that it's hard to take the time looking into everything before taking actions. I wouldn't fault them
too much for that, but rather commend people for doing otherwise, like you mentioned your experience with SoaSE. Although discovering that administration is taking some priority over creativity and development in some cases is certainly disappointing.
Ultimately, I don't think it matters too much. Sig's and replies in threads with appropriate links is more than enough. As a mod user, I was primarily only using Nexus. Once I starting becoming more active in modding, I found my way to this and other sites, and if there were ads or discussions about them on nexus I didn't see them.
I think you should definitely keep a thread going here, but its purpose and usage will be different with something like the FOOKUNITY around - likely more casual talk about FOOK and pointing people to new FOOK forums where appropriate. And there's enough people around that you wouldn't even to be involved apart from starting the threads.
