Umbra was always my favorite and most treasured weapon ever since it was introduced. I would be greatly disappointed if we didn't get Umbra once again.

The damn thing is practically useless as a combat weapon, since many similar swords have damage enchantments which make them stronger. I always liked Goldbrand and Chrysamere personally.

And it is ugly as sin in 1st person.

I'd like to see a King Arthur Excalibur type quest for the acquisition of Umbra, perhaps high on a mountain in northern Skyrim. Anyone else?

That would bring tears of happiness to my face. I'd easily consider Umbra The Elder Scroll's version of Excalibur.

I can't get the Chrysamere in Oblivion though. I do like Goldbrand more than Umbra though, I have to be honest.

I think Umbra will turn up, but in a DLC expansion. The books are canon, and the floating city of Umbriel features (only read a synopsis though). My bet is Umbriel reaches Morrowind, the expansion pack is already rumoured to be set in the border between Morrowind and Skyrim..... and then we get Umbra somehow (but it's better).

To be honest, I'd rather have the upgraded version of Goldbrand, Eltonbrand, before I wanted an upgraded version of Umbra.

You learn the general gist of what happened to Umbra after Oblivion in IC, and something tells me ("something" being that it's a major plot point) that we'll learn more when the book comes out in September.

The games are affected by the books, being they're full canon. So if Umbra was destroyed and all its power gone only to have it appear as normal in Skyrim, that'd just be odd.

Was it destroyed?? Damn, that svcks, I was hoping it'd be in Skyrim. If it was in, it could add for some additional future RP purposes. In my Elder Scrolls timeline, my Oblivion character has it. If Umbra was in Skyrim, it could add some RP purposes if I wanted to recreate my Oblivion character in Skyrim ever.

Currently, he is a vampire. I'd be able to use vampirism as to why he (a Redguard) is still alive 200 years later. As for him starting as not a vampire, I could just say that he was captured (thus losing Umbra, and Umbra being in the game), and he was forcefully given the cure for Vampirism, and also his deeds over 200 years of being a vampire is why he was being executed.

Though I supposed I could still do all of that, just wouldn't include Umbra in the backstory.

maybe umbra was physically destroyed but possessed a blacksmith to remake it or something (could be you). Always a good evil sword.

Well, I remember doing the Oblivion Clavius Vile Shrine Quest. You talk to the freaky Daedra then walk off to the ruins to kill the user of the Umbra, you take the umbra, and walk back to Clavius Vile. Now what to do what to do?Return Umbra and get the Masque of Clavius Vile or keep this awesomely powerful sword with the soul of a great warrior trapped in side.

Hero:"Here take this sword!"

Clavius Vile:"You have made the right choice young one and you shall be gifted with my masque."

Hero:"KTHXBAI"

Clavius Vile:"Me and Umbra have some....Business to attend to."

Hero:"Don't let me stop you."

*Puts on masque*

Hero:"I got jipped. -.-"

what do you think happened to Umbra?!?!? :/

lmao....I just gave him the Umbra then did player.additem 000000000 and got Umbra back. Well, did that my 2nd time through the game. :P But took Umbra 1st time through. I NEVER hack any single player game until I beat it.

I only want to see Umbra back in the game if it is a two handed weapon and it is difficult to earn.

Every time I made a new character on Oblivion, I would go straight to Umbra and kill her and take the sword as soon as I got out of the sewer.

Yeah, I do really love the story behind Umbra, which is why I'd rather avoid it in-game and keep the lore as is. I wouldn't want to muck it up just by having possession of the weapon.

Definitely lost while on a trip to Skyrim.
Found by someone else.
Dragonborn must kill that bastard.
Sword is dragonborn.
Dragonborn must give sword to Vile's (idiot who probably lost it...again) family
But Dragonborn won't....why? Cause he earned it and shouldn't give it to that [censored]' family so they can lose it again.

Idiots....

Umbra is not yet destroyed according to the novel Infernal City. Actually we know which region it`s likely to be in. I`ll say it if anyone asks.
Characters in the book are searching for it.

Other wonderful swords:

Goldbrand and Chrysamere as mentioned by my honourable forum-members.
Dawnfang/Duskfang
Shadowrend (my favorite sword)

I'd say it's still sitting in the dirt somewhere near Suran. Where I left it.

Why would you leave one of the best swords in the game on a mountain for any person to pick it up. 0_o its like standing near a oblivion gate filled with Daedric Princes as a lv one with 1 in all stats and wearing no armor and having no weapon. :obliviongate:

My MW character (the great and mighty Badramef) was so immensly powerful that Umbra wasn't really much different to a standard sword... 1 hit kills every time.

Same, but I was too lazy to go and get Elton Brand or Gold Brand so I walked around in Robes carrying Umbra and I love to collect artifacts.

We'll see where it ends up after the next book releases next month.

The sword and the being inside is one of the pushing factors of Infernal City.

Of coarse people in the prev. Pages have gone over this.

I hope a fitting conclusion is in hand. Whatever the case Umbriel and the sword will undoubtedly be mentioned, as news or gossip.

It's appearance in any form depends on the plot of the next book though.

I went this route:

Keep the sword.

The disadvantages to this approach are:

Clavicus Vile's followers do not like you.----- That was fine for me.

You do not have a Daedric artifact to use for the Blood of the Daedra quest (although any of the other 14 artifacts can be used instead). ------ Fine for me

Umbra ceases to be a quest item, in particular it is now 45 pounds in weight instead of 0.------ I took it and put it on my trophy shelf, so weight didn't matter.

Clavicus will become outraged with you, but although he threatens you, there are no visible repercussions in-game.---- I let him rant then I left and never came back, except to run though there on the way back to the Imperial City from time to time.. lol

"The Umbra Sword was enchanted by the ancient witch Naenra Waerr, and its sole purpose was the entrapment of souls. Used in conjunction with a soul gem, the Sword allows the wielder the opportunity to imprison an enemy's soul in the gem. Naenra was executed for her evil creation, but not before she was able to hide the Sword. The Umbra Sword is very choosy when it comes to owners and therefore remains hidden until a worthy one is found." - Tamreliec Lore. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Tamrielic_Lore

Which is why it appears in different games being used be different NPC's.

Morrowind: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Umbra_%28person%29

Oblivion: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Umbra_%28person%29

Yeah it'll most likely be in Skyrim, not sure why everyone likes that sword so much. I always like Chrysamere and the Iceblade of the Monarch.

I think this is the way it will be, zenzi has it right, if it is in the game at all.

I actually used the masque in Morrowind, some how I feel like it looked cooler then, and I didn't have to give anything up for it, certainly not a soul svcking sword.

I think I'll have to read IC again before that next book comes out though so I'm up to speed, for some reason I don't remember much of the plot...
