The February Game Informer Cover Thread II

What ridiculous writing?

Play Daggerfall, then play Morrowind, then play Oblivion. Notice the raise then decline in writing quality. Honestly it disregards the previous lore, it makes a [censored] mockery of the universe, and contributes close to nothing in terms lore additions. As far as quests go, I can only think of 3 that were really all that interesting and had any branches what so ever, and the main plot lasted roughly 10 hours at the longest. The province was round the same size as Vvardenfell, despite being at least 4 times the size on a map. It was missing 3 cities, and none of the cities themselves matched up with the lore. IE the imperial city was supposed to be situated on seven islands with ginormous pyramids in the center of each. The province was supposed to be a clashing of around 6 different land styles, snowy hills meeting teperate forests which clashed with highlands and led into massive swamps the borders of which were undergoing desertification.

Writing as in script? Story? Lore? How the signs were in English not Daedric? Oblivion's writing was fine I thought. Especially the guilds. (assuming you mean script)

@dakorma how the hell are Dragons cliche? No one has done Dragons properly but Beowulf and thats a movie. Dragonborn is also not cliche. Neither is Skyrim. Next your gonna tell me that the TREES in Oblivion were cliche.

I meant script primarily, but also the story.

Lore was fine because it was just an extension of what had come before.

As much as I know it's unpopular here, I found Oblivion to be disappointingly generic. I found unique tidbits to be the exception rather than the rule.

Ooop, just saw your above post...in other news...

I'm really looking forward to getting a look at the landscape and the character design.

Wondering if we'll see more "seasoned" versions of the different races. It stands to reason that those living in Skyrim have become accustomed to the tough conditions.

I hope to see a ton of Nords and Orcs, with a fair amount of Imperials, a decent-ish number of Redguards, Altmer, and Dunmer, and a rather small number of Wood Elves, Argonians, and Khajit.

Last point before I stop talking about this: All of the Elder Scrolls games have been "generic" like Oblivion EXCEPT Morrowind. Daggerfall did not have mushrooms I am pretty sure. Nor Nixhounds.

Oh hush, 5 Canadian dollars are around 4.9 US dollars, please keep the political strawmanism to a minimum.

Again note, the dollars value hasn't changed much, dispite the Fox New posturing that "INFLATION IS IMMINENT! BUY GOLD FROM GOLD LINE, THEY ARE YOUR FRIENDS DESPITE SELLING VASTLY OVERVALUED PRODUCT WITH NO REAL VALUE BEYOND OMG SHINY."

I'm so confused. Did you just edit your post from flaming Obama to flaming Fox, while saying to "keep political strawmanism to a minimum"?

Beowulf? A movie? What?

It's not so much the environment but the implementation. Everything was too cut and dried for me, much as it was with Fallout 3 I found their Good/Evil approach disappointing coming from Morrowind.

Edit: Never mind that last part

Daggerfall did have an incredibly complex political plot that layered in the ground work for an vast universe to be expanded by Morrowind then shot holes into by Oblivion.

But onward, I hope for more info, specs on the engine and a mess of small screenshots that I can complain about on the internet.

Aye...

I wonder how architecture will change from city to city in Skyrim. An awful lot of it will be mountainous/frozen so I wonder how they'll go about keeping the towns diverse.

posts went away.

The Game Informer cover has nothing to do with politics or the value of gold.

Hmmm I know they sell GI here in Australia but I am not sure WHICH countries version it is, I am hoping it is the one with the pretty Skyrim writeup? Anyone know?

I voted equal amount of pics and info, of course I want to see what it looks like, infact I can't wait looking at the new tech and talent Bethesda are using for Skyrim, but I also would like some info too!

Personally, I thought everything was a bit too cartoony for my tastes. Morrowind had some sort of... realism going on despite the alien feel and look of Vvardenfell. There were politics and such and the lack of complete voice acting (plus the the voices were actually good, particularly the Dunmer) helped made things feel better. Most orcs felt like a joke seriously, I mean again, the voice acting was terrible and coupled with the actual lines, every other races felt way too cartoony and campy too for me. Just look at the Dark Brotherhood, whilst they looked like a band of dangerous murderers, people you wouldn't want to hang with in Morrowind, in Oblivion they looked like what they should look like in Shivering Isles, if you get what I mean. Most NPCs felt like they were part of the Cyrodiil theater troupe or something in the way they acted coupled with some of their lines.

The cover will be revealed on the 6th, and the magazine be sent out to subscribers. That's all we know so far. In the days and weeks following, Game Informer will update their online Elder Scrolls Hub with new content but we don't know when they'll start doing that.

It's 14. Before that it was 12, then a tweet from a GI employee told us that it was bumped up to 14.

It's like this. I have a subscription. Nothing I can do is going to change the layout, it's probably already in production and being printed.
So one lovely day soon, I will come home from work to find my February GI has come, and hopefully my puppies won't have used it as a toilet, chewed it, or drug it down the hall.
You know, the anticipation is half the fun,

Yes, and no. The Hub will be up on the 6th, just like it was for the past few reveals. But it will not actually have anything in it at that time, other than the cover reveal. Articles will be posted in the Hub throughout the month, not all at once.
