The February Game Informer Cover Thread IV

Please, everyone, keep this discussion on topic. If someone flames you then ignore it, don't reply to them, and report it if you feel the need to. We have already seen this innocent thread closed and I hope it wont happen again. Just don't troll, flame, start off topic discussion or post one liners and we will all get along fine without any warnings or suspensions. - Mankar

The Skyrim cover will be revealed on January 6th 2011

"And yeah, once people read this, heads will explode."
- Andy McNamara, Editor-In-Chief of Game Informer

There will be a cover story in a UK mag as well as in a number of other countries. Fear not.

Just finished reading the upcoming Game Informer cover story on Skyrim. Lots of info, big screens...I think you'll really like it.

Digging into the 14-page Game Informer piece on Skyrim. People will be very happy with this. So many screens.

When responding to a question asking how the game looks:
Gorgeous.

As most of us know the February issue of the Game Informer magazine will feature 14 whole pages of Skyrim information/pictures/awesomeness.
The prestigious cover of the mag will also belong to Skyrim!

This thread is for thoughtful discussion and speculation of the topic and what we think will be revealed. Once the cover has been revealed we can keep all discussions to this series of threads so the mods don't have to spend all their time redirecting people's rants about how the cover is "zomg cool". Once the Mag is shipped to subscribers we can post small bits of information to share with other forum members who don't subscribe to GI.

For information on the rules of posting info on the magazine click on this http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1149624-do-not-post-magazine-scans-transcripts-or-links-to-either/.

Fortunately Todd Howard has already stated that "when we show it, we want to show a lot, because there's a lot of game there to play right now." http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-08-16-todd-howard-working-on-two-new-games

Here is the link to the Game Informer article on the matter: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/12/13/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-coming-next-issue.aspx

Here is the link to the Bethesda Podcast in which Todd Howard touches on the subject: http://www.bethblog.com/podcast/
(They start talking about GI around the 6:50 mark in the podcast if anyone just wants to skip to it.) - Wahoo

"They saw a lot [Game Informer visited the office of Bethesda last week] and I think, I hope, everybody is surprised with how much stuff were showing. It's... it's a lot. We wanted to sorta compress the amount of time that we talked about the game. It's still eleven months, it's a long time, but traditionally we're going on like two years talking about a game, so we start out very slow and we wanted to come out of the gate with a lot of... A lot of STUFF. So I think the fans will be excited."
- Todd Howard

"And wait until you see what this game is all about! Mind...blown..."
- Andrew Reiner

"Our Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim coverage has expanded from 12 pages to 14, making it our largest game-based cover story."
- Andrew Reiner http://twitter.com/#!/Andrew_Reiner

I noticed some people in the last thread were confused about when stores would have Game Informer on the shelves. My local stores told me it's usually 2 or so weeks into the month, but sometimes it's longer. The best thing for everyone to do would be to call the Gamestop or other store they plan on getting the game from and ask them when they usually put issues on the shelves. Alternatively you could just call the store every single day after the 6th and ask them if they've put it on the shelf yet.

Todd said in the podcast that he hopes people are happy and surprised how much info they are revealing in the article. In his words, "It's a lot."

Personally, it's going to look AMAZING. Pete was BRAGGING on his twitter account about how the dstr were stunned at how good it looks. These guys see games every day, so for them to say stunned means it's going to be amazing. This is Bethesda as well, they won't show something unless it will make our Jaw drop and dance around like school girls.

If anyone has any other information then post it here and I will add it to the first post.

May want to add a big 'no posting scans here' in the first post for the future. People could miss the pinned topic (they always do :P) so that might save the moderators some hassle.

Edit: Oh it's already there. Maybe a bit higher up? :P

Yeah, I will make that in big colorful letters at the top once the cover is revealed. Thanks for the heads up though.

I will unfortunately be at school during the cover reveal. :( Major sad face. I have to wait until I get home to see, GI is blocked on our schools computers.

Fourth topic already? Man, the moment the cover gets released we'll be up to 11 before anyone knows it. :D

If this were something like a live event, yeah, it would svck. But it's not. Checking the cover when you get home isn't that big a deal, I think.

So what if GI is blocked? Even if you'll get disabled for using a proxy, I'm sure there is a mirror up of the GI site somewhere you can check.
Just to clarify: Do not use a proxy, you will probably get in trouble. If you really MUST check, just look up info. As soon as GI announces anything, every gaming site you can think of will report on it. Just search for information. You might even find a mirror of the GI website. Now, the best thing to do would be to just wait until you get home and not be impatient, but you don't necessarily need access to GI to gather information.

No, its not worth it. If we get caught on other "inappropriate websites" We get a day ISS...and I have no blemishes on my record. No thanks

And @Blue ninja...Its a big deal to me :P. I've been waiting for this kind of stuff for so long. I want to be a part of the moment. I'm not really part of the moment if I'm 7 hours late.

I have a feeling from the 6th on it will be just like the reveal at the VGA's all over again. When Todd came on stage I was first to post on page 10 in the Vga thread "Oh my god it's Todd Howard!" Then I was first to post on the 11th page just a few moments later with "Holy crap Elder Scrolls V Skyrim"

It was crazy.

OK, but you are saying that you wouldn't because GI is blocked. If GI was not blocked, it sounds like you would check. If you are willing to check unblocked sites that may be considered "inappropriate", then I don't see how you would take issue with reading a third party gaming blog or something for information instead.

Dude...Calm down. I don't know why your making a big deal out of this. I wouldn't check it even if it was unblocked, sorry if it sounded that way. I don't know why this needs to be a big deal... :/

The video's blocked for my country, but I'm pretty sure I know what it's about, so it doesn't matter. ^^
The thread NeoGAF was made mere seconds after it was announced, and posts poured in at the speed of light. I was sitting in an Halo: Reach lobby with a couple of friends while watching the VGA's, just talking to eachother over our headsets, commenting on the stuff we saw. Pretty amazing experience, even though the VGA's are rather horrible to look at. :P

Meh, I'd probably be the same way if I still had to go the school. College is bliss for stuff like this, though studying my finals is killing me.

But there might be a couple of versions, like with past issues.

What I would say is that, if it is not blocked then the person in question can't be taken into fault. All he really has to say is that he didn't know that the sire would be inopropriate.

They sometimes have more than one cover and they post them on their website.

For instance, here are Portal 2's cover reveals:

And all I would hear is "A gaming forum site? You know thats inappropriate." Its been very hard to play the stupid card at school, they don't buy it too often(Especially when your an A student)

But anyway, I'll just have to wait. I think I'll live....Crap, I just remembered I'm going to my girlfriends house Thursday >.> I'll be lucky if I can drag myself away for 5 seconds to look at the cover.

@DCDeacon The only real question for me is whether your wish for a glorious world full of alchemy and herbalism came true.

And according to this snippet Alchemy has been looked after by Pete Hines.

In the form of an emblem. On a black background. With a 14-page in-depth anolysis of the trailer wall inside.

I see multiple covers. Maybe one with a dragon and another with The crest, and possibly another with A random character, like with oblivion.

So the cover is all black with the Skyrim name and logo on it? Seems odd to have a reveal for that...

@GI_AndyMc Andy McNamara
It is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on the all-black cover. We will show the cover this Thursday as well as start some awesome online stuff.

Can't wait to see what is inside though. Too hyped.
