The February Game Informer Cover Thread XII

Post » Fri May 14, 2010 10:27 pm

I think its classy. Its understated and unusual, which draws more attention than some highly rendered potatoshop dragon-nord-mountain stuff.

Is there an official thread for the poem translation? Or are we all lazy and waiting for them to tell us?

The first word is repeated. But too short to be Dovahkiin. Dovakin would work, but then you end up with Ko as a word(and using ok...which doesn't seem likely). I think it's something different.

There's one two letter word that is reversed later and the only word that comes to mind is no and on.

The first two letter word is either no or on.

Ko? Ko Po'Tun? Or however it's spelled. More Akaviri!

Mildly disappointed: I was hoping for some sort of concept art. I'm not crazily disappointed though, cause I'm sure the contents of the magazine will more than make up for the simple cover art.

Edit: Dang, 3 minutes off of joining at 11:11 AM. Haha. :)

Bethesda, my black ink cartridge hates you. :P

Very nice cover. I like it. Although I know I will spend my night poring over it like I spent my afternoon F5-ing game informer.

So how are we supposed to decode that back cover? Is there some sort of translator?

Yes, you'll have help later today
Whats some mumbo jumbo scriblings on a fictional game language compared to a real screen?

Fear not, there will be plenty of screens. And we wouldn't put a screenshot on the cover. This is just the very beginning of the stuff GI will be sharing

Disappointed. We waited and waited and waited to see a symbol we've been looking at for the last month and now we've been asked to translate something that, lets face it, can't be translated. And guess what? We have to wait AGAIN to see what it means. I'm sick of waiting. Its bugging me. I don't mean to be impatient but after 5 years can you blame me? For gods sake just give us a little bit of info.

People are actually disappointed with the cover? That's one of the classiest covers I've ever seen.

agreed. It's mysterious and classy and elegant. Voted "no" I am not upset.

There's only one word with six letter (without repeating letters).
Fifth line, fourth word.

If it's just English in some strange letters then that could be 'skyrim'?

The most frequent letter seems to be the symbol with what looks like an "equals sign" with a dot above it. This should correspond to the letter "e?"

Its kind of hilarious that there were a bunch of photoshopped covers in the early morning threads that are very much an exact copy of what the final one looks like. Its way too minimalistic, just a big let down, to be honest, and definitely not worth all the hassle that the reveal has caused around here. Previous GI covers have been much better, this one just feel uninspired, but that's just my opinion, YMMV.

It's not a known Elder Scrolls alphabet.

Using only bar and dots make it look like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuneiform_script though...

Sick of everything being held back because of some moronic exclusive given to a Gamestop magazine. It's like an internet provider cutting a deal with the post office to delay all e-mail sent by 2-3 days to level the playing field.

I rather like the starkness and contrast of the cover. Sometimes simple is better.

You do have a point there. It's a good marketing move for those who don't know about TES.

But for us TES fans, it's nothing we haven't seen before.

How do we even know the name is spelled Dhovaakin (I probably even misspelt your spelling now)? We've only heard it be spoken in the teaser trailer, not written afaik. Even sounds like a B instead of a D in the beginning of the word, to me.
