I think the plain look fits the TES mood. A flashy cover would kill the mystery the game holds for us. Just my opinion.

I think the difficulty in getting information is a GOOD thing. Take a look at other games, for example Halo: Reach (probably a bad place to reference this but oh well). It was hyped up extensively for a very long time. And in the end, it turned out to be.. boring. Very very boring. I personally have lots of hope and faith in Bethesda.

i heard from somewhere that the cover was going to be in 3d, but that may just be the gameinformer cover, not entirely sure

First of all its not bethesda who did the cover art its game informer. secondly morrowind has a lot of downsides compared to oblivion.

I like the cover. Its timeless cause its the symbol of a game, not a screenshot that will show age and perhaps not represent the game very well. Its stylish to boot!

Well I was Meh of the cover. Not worth the anicipation at all. So I guess this will be the actual cover of the game on the box then eh? Just reminds me of Oblivion.
Sort of not impressed. I was hoping it would distance it's self from TES IV and not be Oblivion 2.0. So far, I am getting a bit worried. Guess will be able to better
judge once we see the screens come in.

Personally I like this type of cover art, so no crying for me, think it makes it more serious and mature rather then some colorful pic of some real guy in armor looking tough. and the crypto on the back makes for a sweet change ... helps to wet the appetite for the books in game hope there are bunches of books written in this language and walls covered with it in ancient temples and on bordello walls lol

Go stand around a city, you'll hear people start talking about violence in Skyrim.

The only thing I remember them saying was that they were at war with Great House Redoran on the island of Solsthiem.

A hologram effect/3d cover isn't what I would consider flashy. What I would consider flashy is something along the lines of a snowy forest with giant mountains in the background with a statue in the middle of the forest with a guy standing nest to it...Too busy imo...honestly, I think most GI covers are too busy. 3D or not, I think the plain look suits the TES games; adds to the mystery. But that's how I feel about them =)

maby because they were made 4 years apart..naaah thats not a contributing factor at all is it.
not going into another morrowind vs oblivion flame war here..they both had boring covers, and if you look at ign or another game site, the cover for skyrim is exactly the same as the cover for gameinformer. probably why they chose it.

I agree, the hype got me thinking i would see concept art or maybe a screenie on the cover, but it′s better and more subtle this way, and besides, it′s not the first time this has been done. Remember mortal kombat?

yeah..tbh, now that my hype factor isnt through the roof, ive come to see that it is a decent cover, and it does suit TES.
i guess i just got it in my head that the cover release would open up a whole bunch of info to me :/

I agree that the anticipation wasn't worth it. I don't care if that's the cover of the game, I just thought we would get something more substantial rather than the same emblem that's been all over the web since the game was announced. I wanted some cool concept art, not another vague poem and a bland cover. Oh well, all I care about is the info within said pages.

Anyone else going to get really mad if it's just pictures of Rick Astly with little captions "Never gonna give you up" on every page?

Everyone's having post problems, it seems.

Anyhow, I'd say learning Alduin would factor in the plot is pretty major for something on the cover.

Game Informer choose to use this logo to make it 3D on the real version of the magazine not because its simple. on the real un-internet version its going to be high quality work.
