The Final Decision

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 8:46 pm

Say you wipe out all of the dragons in the end, would you let that majestic and magical race die, or will you continue the line at the price of your mortal form?

You are called the "dragonborn", you should be able to make this choice.

You are fighting the dragons. Why would you want to become the enemy? It may be cool stylistically, but storywise I think it would ruin it...and I wouldn't want to do it anyway.
Also, on a somewhat related matter I would much rather have my character become the emperor in the end.

Dragonborn doesn't mean you can transform into a dragon, you hunt dragons.

Because the game is (or should be) about choice, not some linear, black-and-white 'these are the bad guys, git 'em' story? What if my character agrees that this corrupt world needs a fiery cleansing in the form of the World-Eater?

I seriously doubt this will happen, but if it did, I would probably stay human for my first play-through.

Um, turning into a dragon permanently would completely break the game.

You actually shouldn't be able to make this choice and I have no idea where you are drawing your logic from.

Yeah, things are about choice but that doesn't mean you can just spontaneously wish yourself to become a dragon. I mean, if you want the world to be destroyed that would be a nice choice by transforming into a dragon just is out of the question. I mean, I have a choice but I can't just spontaneously transform into a Daedric Prince. (You proved me wrong Shivering Isles :swear: )

When you put it that way... Definitely mortal form. I'm all for some single handed genocide.

Oh Rachni you're practically extinct huh? Well guess what, now you are :flamethrower:

Let's boil this choice down a bit:

A: Keep all your hard-earned armor, weapons, and relationships, become the next great hero of Cyrodiil, and enjoy the depth of the land that is Skyrim.

B: Throw away everything you've worked for the entire game for a cool lightshow and the inability to play much of the game afterward besides fly around and kill everything.

Seems we have a clear cut winner!

This is not a real choice, it is what I call a "fake choice" which is simply a calculation masquerading as a choice. In this case, it adds nothing to the game and does not deserve implementation. Please watch http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/2590-Choice-and-Conflict to get a better idea of the meaning of choice and consequence in gaming.

Stay in my mortal form cause I'm so badass I don't need the dragon power. And lose all my stuff? No way, materialism is good. :mohawk:

Mortal form. Become a Dragon? that sounds incredible borring. I would like to be a Werewolf once in a while but being stuck in Dragon Form for the rest of the game? i think i would rather just quit playing.

The Septim line was of the 'Dragonborn'......Martin Septim turned into a Dragon in the end of Oblivion.(Granted it was the Avatar of Akatosh) but still the option is there in the lore.

That was a one time deal through the power of the amulet...plus the dragon turned to stone afterwards...

I'm not saying it would not be fun to play a dragon, I just don't think its this game.

Dragons are magical, you could create your own offspring.....plus Dragons are immortal, so you'd continue the race forever, as long as no one kills you. :P

He was turned into the avatar of Akatosh because he broke the amulet, not because it is some innate ability of dragonborn to transform into dragons...

I thought all Dragonborn meant was that you had Dragon blood running through you not that you can be turned into a dragon but I would stay human because as I have stated in many other posts I dont want to feel like I have too much power. I want to be a hero but still just human and have my weak points.

Could a normal person have broken the amulet and turned into a dragon?...no, so we have a 'Dragonborn', now we just need a magical source comparible to the Amulet of Kings.....

btw everybody, i really didn't want to get into a lore battle here i just wanted to know what people thought.

Precisely. Play Ego Draconis for a while, then go back to OB or MW, if that doesn't inform your choice I don't know what will.

Personally I'm hoping the dragons aren't so one dimensional that "the dragons" are the enemy and that's that. I hope we meet some dragons that don't agree with what Alduin is trying to do, some who don't care, etc.

I think it will be interesting to see if the dragons can transform. I don't know if that happens in the Elder Scrolls lore but it does in many other stories. If not I don't see how the game could continue if you transform into a dragon.

I'm not a fan of driving the whole species to extinction though.

Me neither. I was actually rather dissapointed when i found out dragons would play such a huge part in Skyrim. It's such a clishé. All Medieval Fantasy games have them except TES... or it used to be that way.

This....i think we'll become the emperor.
As for i wouldn't want to do it anyway....i would at least try it,for the experience.
And i love dragons, but in all i agree with you.
Also i think that after skyrim ends,i dont think that will be the last we see of the dragons :)
