My first V.A.T.S. kill was unremarkable...a giant ant...head shot...second round from a hunting rifle. The bullet cam was kinda cool, but other than that...unremarkable. I have had better V.A.T.S. kills since then.

I started this game with no clue how to play. I was still in the vault near Amata.A prompt came up and told me to push a button to use VATS. I have no clue what VATS was so I did it, didn't know what was going on, clicked random buttons. And BANG! :gun: Blew of Amata's head. :P I just sat and laughed for a minute then reloaded.

I can't recall, so it probably wasn't very memorable. But had it been possible I'm sure it would have been my foot.

I killed a radroach with a bb gun inside the vault when I turned 10. I just followed the prompt on the screen and tapped the fire button a few times then hit a like it said. Didn't know I could change which body parts i hit at the time though so it was all body shots.

The first time you used V.A.T.S. what happened?
I noticed they changed the percentages from the linear difficulty scale to proximity based... I was not pleased.

This.

Then I found it was more fun to bash both radroaches and Butch's mother with a baseball bat. That made Butch cry. Now he's my b*tch....

Hey, even saintly characters need some evil....

I think my first was a radroach. I did a sneak attack with a baseball bat on it. That is when I realized that vats was great for melee sneaks, as it allows you to teleport next to your target and instantly smack it.

The screen froze and it showed me some percentages in different parts of the enemy's body and...

Hehe. ;)

Vault 101, first play-through, I killed a Radroach with the BB Gun when the Dadster gives it to you. It was fairly amusing, a cinematic BB Gun kill.

Same here, it was my first game and I was following all the pop-up tips. Aimed for the torso because it had the highest probability to hit and I was conditioned from playing the first two games to make every shot count. Of course, you only got 2-3 shots per turn in those games and ammo could be hard to come by, so you had to get the most you could out of each shot.

I found out on a subsequent character that I could just free-aim it and pump shots into the Radroach since I had more BBs than I would ever need for the task and it couldn't reach me.

First time I used VATS with the BB gun. Missed both shots....at pointblank range on a radroach. Then latter on tried to use it with the 10mm pistol. Almost the same results, but got a few flesh wounds in that time around. It was awhile before I started getting somewhere with VATS on the first character.

Now it's easy. Get a laser pistol and make for Ol'Painless ASAP before the VATS abuse starts. Using zero spread weapons makes a big difference before the VATS related perks show up in the game. Of course with Ol'Painless I'm killing most things in free-aim beyond the range VATS can even lock onto a target. Still miss allot early in the game when shooting from the other side of a cell in but the targets have no idea where the shots are coming from. Once I have 95+ in small guns and Lincoln's Repeater it's "One shot-One Hit-One kill" game play for the most part with 1/3 of the shots taken with VATS.

My first V.A.T.S. kill was when i slaughtered Amata's father. It was when him and a gaurd started interrogating her. I caught what was going out of the corner of my eye while trying to escape, and decided i should make a quick stop

Some raiders outside the school outside vault 101, 10mm pistol at long range with low skill. Bullets went everywhere, come as a shock to me after oblivions beyond visible range archery.

Use VAT less now to, still extremely useful against moving enemies or to snipe groups movement does not affect VAT and you can hit multiple enemies in a pack with sneak critical.

Is it not a combination of the two? I think that proximity makes perfect sense. The closer you are, the easier it should be to hit your target.

I shot a vault 101 Guard's head off with mah BB gun. That was when I learned Fallout 3 was... 'slightly' unrealistic.
