The Flying Dutchman

Acolyte doesn't think it'll rust. Cuz scaffolding is usually made from stainless steel :D

You wouldn't believe how aggressive salt air can be towards any kind of metal. Considering time frames involved, either there's a maintenance department that's doing overtime all the time or people will have to wash their hands constantly to get rid of the flaky stuff that seems to be everywhere...

Yeah, I know. This would never fly in RL. The ship would be a pile of oxidized rust long before 200 years went by. I got past that by introducing a sci-fi gizmo saying that ships ans other metals are treated with a snazzy polymer coating/whatever that preserves the metal. Otherwise you go crazy trying to explain it in any plausible form.
Same with the "cold fusion welding". No idea how it works -fusion probably :P but easily explains fusing all the metal together to create this monster...

Blinzler:
The slightly younger brother of Dragontamer, and fell into the same vat of radiated tidy bowl that turned his skin blue, as well as some other things.. More of a diplomat than his brother, Blinzler is a gifted speaker and is a DJ on the ships radio station Kay-RAP with the studios in the Chryslus Building. He also acts as the ships moral compass and investigative reporter, which often puts him at odds with certain parties (more bodyguard work)
Not a clue what the tatoos and tribal scarring on his face represents. You ask him, his brother has creepy eyes.

Acolyte likes Blinzler too. He makes good reading of asking peoples what they like doing. Acolyte likes reading that

Shame that you lost all your work but I'm guessing the new versions will be better than before, and you can learn from any mistakes you made first time around. Good Luck.

Please, I prefer to be referred to as "smart-ass tribal", it's a matter of pride. :D
And I don't do blue. My skin is perfectly pale from under-exposure to sun. All this time spending lurking on old terminals trying to dig up the past or outwit antiquated security systems in order to stick my nose where some people claim private property and such nonsense...
Moral compass is great! I'd be so good at telling people they can't do what I do because it's morally questionable! And it would keep the competition out of my hair. Total win-win situation!

I wasn't aware I have a big brother now. I got a big sister. Can we make Drag0ntamer my big sister? :hehe:

El Diablo
second in command of the AC turnbulls, the controlling gang in lower Bronx as well as a having a stake in the docks (a turf they share with the Rastafarian and the Chinese). Born and raised on the inner ship docks of the Bronx, he has a life long understanding of smuggling operations on board, and know like no other how to organize the boat crews
Being the XO means that El Diablo effectively runs the turnbulls, as he is burdened with the every day to day operations of the gang, leaving the strategic thinking up to the Boss. Wanting a chance at the big chair, El Diablo is fiercely loyal to the turnbulls boss and will do nothing back handed to gain control of the gang. There are others however..
El Diablo -hopefully- has a power boat named 'Hades', painted primer black and muffled but seems to always play old Neil Young music loudly when running the boat, whether he has to be quiet or not, go figure.
There is a good chance that you might come across him in the initial stages of starting the add on, as a means to get on board the Flying Dutchman?
When getting exasperated with anyone, but not to the point of shooting them -yet, he has the tendency to cover half his face and look at you in disbelief. He is also the holder of a particular recipe of chilli that is served exclusively at Mama San's dubbed:
The strongest chilli in the world! It'd burn right through the wall! :chaos:

Spot on man! I don't know how you did it but that's great. :D I love both Neil Young and Hot food. :P

Perfect pale, got it (you were pulled out before Drag0ntamer was)
ah, a freelance security anolyst :D Then your character is also the ships liaison with the on board super computer >read sys-ops, and you have a hard time explaining why you have to call yourself "Dave" whenever dealing with the machine. THe machine being a HAL9000 edition :D

I wasn't aware I have a big brother now. I got a big sister. Can we make Drag0ntamer my big sister? :hehe:

I ain't touching this with a ten foot pole. Y'all figure it out and I'll listen to who ever is left standing after the negotiations. 'Kay?

How about cousins?
And everyone gets to choose their own gender.

Acolyte thinks that women with yellow eyes is even creepier than a guy. But then Acolyte is slightly sixist , for a mutant.

The Fallout World is an alternate reality . . . it is not suppose to represent our future world. (That's why cars and buses are nuclear powered, while computers still fill entire rooms. It's also why the Washington monument has a wooden frame, instead of being made out of masonry.)

One of the problems that many people have when they role-play FO3 is that they are trying too hard to make the game fit our world and our physics. Doing so will break immersion, because way too many things just will not make any sense. You really have to look at this as an alternate reality, in the same way that the Elder Scrolls RPGs represent an alternate world. The world of Fallout doesn't have to follow our laws of physics . . . because it has its own laws . . . and they are a bit different than ours. In the alternate reality of Fallout radiation causes impossible mutations, and it preserves 200-year-old food. And from the look of the place, it also preserves metal and concrete. (I have a bit more on this in my Fallout 3 Journal, at the very end of http://amito.freehostia.com/Fallout/FO02.htm.

You and me both. Hey, all you guys do is read Acky's rantings at the bottom of my posts. I actually share my personality with the lumbering goofball. And yes I will need assistence in retexturings, hopefully you can show me a few tricks of the trade, point me in the generally considered correct direction, simple stuff.
You don't want to be mentioned in the Flying Dutchman? :( Awww, pweeese  I loved the idea of a completely different kind of mutant on board. A real normal guy on the inside, your avatar on the outside, with some uncanny fighting abilities (must be a mutant thing).
I built a freefighting arena on board first time around, calling it Jankees (yankee's) Stadium and if all goes well, playing characters will be able to bet on fights and even participate in them. Dragontamer would be one of the top billing events, mostly because the public can't get enough of this small blue-ish guy with yellow eyes who can take down super mutants within 90seconds, and in part because of the blue skin and yellow eyes. He'll have a kind of WWF hulk Hogan celeb feel as an NPC.
One quest I was thinking of is as his bodyguard. He's ben recieving deaththreats from a human supremacy faction on board that want all the mutants on board to get off.

Acolyte thinks nomatter how nice Drag0ntamer is, he gots some creepy eyes. Acolyte isn't gonna mess with him and keeps Drag0ntamer as a friend
So its ok Drag0ntamer, Acolyte's yer friend for always and always and he help you anytime when you ina fight you can't win good. Though Acolyte don't think that gonna happen soon, cuz of the creepy eyes

I have no problem with you basing a character off me lol! I just wasn't sure if thats what you wanted or if you were asking me to make a character look like that. Also happy to help you out with texturing when the time comes depending on my schedule like I said earlier.

I have a fairly simple rule of thumb: if I have a question that takes more than a single page to explain the answer of.. then I'm asking too broad a question and need to narrow the focus of my task -and that's coming from me, the guy building a cargo freighter in his attic

Yeah, but I try to throw the Physics Majors a bone to keep 'em happy.. :P which is why I came up with the polymer coating and cold fusion welding -heck, I still want to make a welding torch/really mean melee weapon.
I was surprised it didn't make its way into the Pitt (it didn't, did it?)

Update: I will be waiting with implementing certain aspects of The Flying Dutvhman until release of DLC Point lookout due to the fact/persistent rumor that there are working vessels -boats- in the new DLC.
Unless you are brain dead or completely out of the loop as far as this add on project goes... you know why I'm waiting.
Well, not waiting. Heck, I'm gonna be at this well past the summer winter spring '10  so suffice to say it'll contain all DLC resources since the GotY will be out in October and that will have all five DLC included.
Still need to figure out jetskis though...

Acolyte looked at Bossmans shiny motorcycle he gots from his friend Nib, then he looked at the plans for the jetski.. And looked at the bike again, and the plans..
"Boss... This doesn't look like anything that would work any, except exploding. But this... this don't look the same..."

@Rydain
A young and idealistic Marshal, he doesn't believe in excess violence nor unnessesary killing. Proof of this is that he refuses to carry anything that fires full automatic and -hopefully- has a http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5520that he favors. He truly believes every person should do their best for their fellow person, unbiased and without prejudice. He has a huge prewar stuffed teddybear in his apartment called Paddington and were that to be stolen/destroyed then he might snap and do something psychotic.
He also has a crush on Warden Green, but then, so does half the ship, get in line buddy.
He's also way too pretty which makes him look even younger than he already seems to be.

Sorry, dude. But you'll probably end up comical sidekick
Hope you don't mind :D

Andy

Either your skilled at getting peoples personality with little evidence or your just plain lukcy. When DL'd the Vltor SBR about a month ago I had to mod it to make it Single shot, Since I hate automatic weapons. And as far as the comic side-kick goes, I do normally stay quiet about things, untill I have the position and power to do otherwise :goodjob:

Thanks again, and good luck..again,

I let Acky dig up some research and he throws a personality together. I read your posts on a teddybear companion as well :D

But I'll go with skilled.

Aha!!!

So ole Andy does some research on guys, hey?

That would explain why he knows one of my favourite guns is the HK, and that I have a scholarly interest in sniper weapons...

But it doesn't explain why he made me a DDG girl (DDG = Drop Dead Gorgeous)

Remember Ole Andy! If you do Foxy Dee as a girl, base the face and body template of TIA CARRERE!!!

*and she DOES have an indirect connection to FO3 as well. Tia is the actress who plays Sydney on 'Relic Hunter' !*

Actually if you are looking for some smaller boats I've seen several row boats and small intact motor boats in Fallout 3. All that's left it to make them move or just make them activators so you select them and they port you to the boat :)

Tia, right. All I need is facegen and someone who knows how to use facegen :D
Well, one; with a name like Foxy Dee, it couldn't very well be ugly, right?
And I find foxy men icky, reminds me of the 80s and glam-rock :yuck:
So... :D
besides, you don't have an avatar, so all I had to go by were your posts and screen name, researching the posts make it real

@ Dragontamer
Seen 'em, thanks
They're listed in the geck as boat01, boat02 and boat03. Versions A through D or E/F, with the versions being differently textured.. the only problem with boat02 and -03 is that they are open bottomed and the water surface seems to clip right through the hull :( Is there anything that can be done about it? My only solution is to make boat01 and -03 closed bottom and keep the waterline under the enclosure..

but boat01 is a winner :)

Acolyte can't swim -go figure.. so he always wears his inflatable ducky/swimming tube. Not to mention his striped 1930s "swim briefs".. I gotta get a camera and some film one of these days...

If boat 1 is a winner why not use it? The open bottom issue would need to be fixed with mesh editing.

I am.
The initial set up is a guy standing at a boat, and after you are aboard there will be a fade to white/fade back. And the boat will be moored to the ship.
Working boats would be the next step, someday [sigh]
At some point if that was ever achieved, I would like to import a few custom boat meshes from the public domain into the game.
We'll see. At least now-a-days I'm not the only one with an add on in the works that could benefit from functioning boats

I think the area around the boat should be reasonably guarded with some tents etc. I sure as heck wouldn't want to be the lone guy sitting there by the boat lol. Also leave a boat stationary there so it looks like the guards could escape if needed. My 2 cents.

Oh yeah  fer sure fer sure. It's a salvage operation after all so there will be a few peoples, some guarding some cutting up scrap metal Pitt style

On a note about the boats and point lookout DLc. For some reason I can't load anymore DLC resources into the geck alongside Fallout.esm than THe Pitt, or I get a Multiple Master load something something. I flagged the MultipleMasterLoad in the GECKcustom.ini (thanks ECHO and CJ) but the setting doesn't seem to want to assign correctly :(
So, taking my next clue from mother nature and going the path of least resistance, where the poo rolls downhill, so to speak, I'm only including The Pitt resources for now.
Obviously this is a temporary state of affairs, but I promised more updates. If my updating becomes to trivial "Acky changed his undies this morning", let me know. I can get carried away sometimes :embarrass:

Also, I'm donating some of my time to organizing a wasteland wedding -I think- which means me moving even slower than usual on this..

im not sure if this is possible but it sure would make for some fun things to turn on and off;

the aspect of 'video textures'; that is, a small video clip that becomes an animated texture which one can apply to a surface. it'd be nice to turn on those random TV sets when they've got power from the dutchman's reactors, to see an old civil defense clip from school or even some old tv show clips(its howdy doody time...)
