The Fourth Era

So I'm reading this and since Skyrim takes place 200 years after the Oblivion crisis, and the death of Uriel Septim ended the Third Era, will the information about the Fourth Era be in Skyrim, all these events that are depicted?

I'd like to see what Bethesda put's into Skyrim; books, stories, etc, to tie everything that happened in between Skyrim and Oblivion. It would be cool to see the Infernal City novel get a nod.

I think they destroyed it for a reason. Players were attached to it because of Morrowind, so it would have more of an impact on the community.

So it wasnt the death of the emperor that ended the era? And i'd love for them to actually include this stuff, as well as the events of The Infernal City which I am in the process of reading

With the absence of Vivec, the Ministry of Truth becomes unstable. Vuhon creates an Ingenium in order to keep the rock stable by using first dozens of dying souls, then a small number of living ones as fuel. Sul fights Vuhon over his wife, who was being used as a living battery causing the Ministry of Truth to crash into Vvardenfell, destroying much of the island and killing many of the people. The Argonians of Black Marsh invade and conquer the crippled Dunmer.

 How could that ever happen? With Great House Telvanni holding territory in Morrowind?

Lore wise it was "foretold" that it would be destroyed before any of us played Morrowind. As a matter of fact the reason the ministry of truth fell was because YOU as the Nerevarine made the Tribunal mortal again by severing their connection to the heart of Lorkhan. So, yeah. They didn't just decide that after the fact. :P

I would get started now if you plan on adding Daggerfall to that Scroll-athon :P To understand why the MoT fell though all you need is within Morrowind itself. Go read the 36 lessons of Vivec :)

yeah, but i think Telvanni and Redoran got weakened because they had trouble keeping up with the times. Hlaalu is becoming the most powerful house now.

I would but..
Someone seriously needs to publish an annotated sermons. Really, cause I lost my thinking-sideways-hat.
Without someone explaining what it all means I just keep reading the biting spears part and giggling.

Been doing that myself, to catch up on story stuff. Finished Morrowind a couple weeks ago, now a fair bit into Oblivion. I'll do Daggerfall when I finish that. I'd like to do Arena, but I just can't stand the controls in that, they're so awkward after playing modern mouse-look games for so long.

I wonder if Black Marsh's invasion of Morrowind will mean a future game set in Black Marsh will include some of Morrowind.

Couldn't keep up with the times huh? I don't see how that would be a problem for the Telvanni who pursue great power in solitude. I always thought they were the really powerful ones no one would mess with.

The fourth era has started very heavily, as the empire collapses, the blades are hunted down, nords have started a civil war and the Alduin returns.

This era would not have the secluded and soothing if alien atmosphere of Morrowind game era.

It would be hectic.

Weren't I a souless android I'd have cried when I first heard about it. The Ministry of Truth -truth be told- was just a tiny rock a few meters over Vivec, it wasn't as if a giant meteor hit the island...and damn those Argonians too, can't wait to put them slaves in their place.

The Telvanni may be powerful mages, but they're still only mortal. Whereas the Ministry of Truth whose falling set off the eruption that destroyed Vvardenfell as we know it was being held up by the power of a god, albeit one who was originally mortal, and when that god lost his power, I'd say it's no surprise that mortal mages weren't able to do what a god had to do before. Now, I could see magic being able to delay the inevitable so that people had time to evacuate, but I doubt the Telvanni, or any other mortal institution present at the time could have done what Vivec was only able to do while he was alive.

In any case, 200 years is a lot of time for stuff to happen, and Infernal City only covers a portion of that time, so we can hope that there will be a fair amount of new lore covering the events of the first 200 years of the 4th era in Skyrim. Honestly, I'm not sure what setting the game so far ahead of Oblivion would accomplish if we don't see that. I'm not criticizing the choice or anything, because it certainly doesn't bother me, but usually when you have such a long period of time seperating games, there's some sort of reason for it, and since I don't see any immediate reason for why the story of Skyrim should need to take place so long after Oblivion, I can only assume the reason for the choice is so that there is time for many changes to take place in the world.

Weren't I a souless android I'd have cried when I first heard about it. The Ministry of Truth -truth be told- was just a tiny rock a few meters over Vivec, it wasn't as if a giant meteor hit the island...and damn those Argonians too, can't wait to put them slaves in their place.

I'd say the Dunmer got what they deserved, but since there are still living Dunmer who are free in Tamriel, I'd be lying. I hope if any Dunmer were left in Morrowind when the Argonians came in, they're slaves now.

But the reason the Ministry of Truth caused that much damage was because Vivec was an indiot and froze it in the air without draining its velocity, so when it started falling again, it was every bit as fast as it was before it was frozen in place, and when it hit, it set off an eruption that rendered the land uninhabitable. In short, it's all Vivec's fault.
