The frequency of which this game crashes is abhorrent

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 5:42 am

Over the span of three hours I've had the game crash to the desktop 4 times. This wouldn't be SO bad if there was any sort of indication of why the crash occurred, or some kind of error code that I could look up. No, I just have to make a guess as to what went wrong and make sure to save my game every 5 minutes. I cannot fathom how beth couldn't solve this crashing problem after their first patch. What, did not enough people complain about it?

Agreed, but wrong section man. Head to the hardware/software issues section, and you'll see plenty of people complaining about this...

I do not have this issue at all. My game doesn't crash at all. May want to head over to the hardware section and post your hardware and where this issue is happening.

Try http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1013 if you have a 64-bit OS and at least 4-6 Gb of RAM. This will help alleviate your problem if it is memory related.
And http://enbdev.com/index_en.html if you have an Nvidia GPU. This should help alleviate your problem if it is GPU related.

Otherwise, all you can do is wait for official (and unofficial) patches. Crashes to desktop can be caused by a bunch of things, be it from the game itself or from your machine not liking the game.

I have the 4gb Skyrim mod, have 16 gigs of RAM, 64-bit Windows 7, and have an AMD Radeon.

My game only crashes to desktop when I use specific nvidia driver versions. Most of the newer drivers including beta do not seem to be stable on my rig for some reason. Older drivers seem to be very smooth and no crashes...

QFT. Not a single crash while using it, vs one per hour before.

In my first 80 hours of playing this game I maybe had three or four CTDs, usually at the end of a 8-12 hour day of playing on the weekend (where frankly I needed it so that I could sleep). Since the latest patch I've barely been able to play for an hour without it CTD at completely random points.

So, will try this 4gb launcher.

I never had the game crash to desktop before the recent patch. Now I'm lucking to play for more than a couple minutes without it crashing.

Like yourself, the crash to desktop with no warning was very infrequent. I could play many hours and may or may not have a single issue. I was actually relieved like you mentioned, when it crashed, as a reminder to go to bed!

Post - patch 1.2, I switched from using CCC 11.9 to CCC 11.11c and run the Skyrim 4GB launcher. Not one single crash since. This is on Win.7/64-bit, i7-860, 4GB ram, ATI 5770 [crossfired]. Granted, the crossfire still needs better optimization [read: usage], but practically speaking, the game runs smooth as butter with pleasing frame rates and visual goodness.
