The Future of the Elder Scrolls

I see a lot of sadness for me and at least a good half of the original fanbase, I also see me trying before I buy next time.

Really? Last time I checked, I don't have weapon/armour degradation. And consequently, no spells for breaking armour and weapons as well.

I also don't have open lock spells.

Or feather spells.

Or mark/recall spells.

Or levitation or jump spells.

Or walking on water spells.

Where are these options? Are they in the perk trees somewhere?

Oh, and care to explain to me how I can get to level 100 in "one-handed" using only a dagger and sneaking up on people and back stabbing them, and then a second later, I'm a grand-master at using an axe and/or a sword? How does that make sense? They aren't exactly the same type of weapon, unless you consider the fact that they are held in your hand to be "the same". That ISN'T realism.

And before you say "OH BUT YOU CAN CHOOSE WHICH ONE YOU WANT TO SPECIALIZE IN THE PERK TREE!". Give me a break. The specializations are petty.

If they had devoted a separate tree for each type of weapon (think, morrowind complexity of weapons) they could have made the specialization actually worth-while.

Also, WHERE ARE MY SPEARS AND CROSSBOWS?

I've been preaching to my friends since the wee days of Oblivion that all the lumping together of options (which I believe we are calling streamlining nowadays?) will only serve to take away the ability realism and free-formality. Preach on... preach on. Maybe one day TES can be reclaimed to the PClolololololol.... I just couldn't say that with a strait face. TES PC version is doomed.

people crying that they removed acrobatics and mysticism make me laugh.
game is streamlined doesnt make it more childish it means they removed the stuff that was stupid to begin with. i like what they did, now all i want is more wildlife and better plant life... i want an actual forest too.
more dialog also, and bigger cities would be great as well.

How about finally ditching the medieval setting and making an Elder Scrolls: 40K with Imperial space marines fighting the heretical Altmer in space.

Another great game but one which is not rushed before release and has well balanced skills, better quests and more interactive environment. Skyrim is great but I want better.

I'm happy with the engine because the game runs on my crappy computer and it isn't as horrifying as Oblivion.

A businessman will create a TES themed park, which will work out until we discover the dragons can change sixes and are reproducing.

The worst part is that like, half the fanbase recognizes this and is very upset about it. And the other half is telling us to shut up and take it up the ass.

And Bethesda doesn't seem to give a [censored] about the intelligent half. It's almost as if they're trying to make more money by catering to a wider audience. What the [censored] is this 11-11-11 [censored]? Forget finishing the game and polishing it up, let's make the release date look super cool! That will make up for all of the awesome content that we removed! Right?

At least there is still a healthy community of modders that are willing to fix this mess. It's the only thing that gives me incentive to play TES.

Elsweyr would be sweet, what with all the badlands, deserts, and sandstorms. It just seems like it would be an interesting and badass land.

Or Summerset Isles fighting the Thalmor.

A land full of thieving, disgusting, skooma-addicted furries? OH GOD NO. I had enough trouble holocausting the few that had made the mistake of wandering into Skyrim.

Oh gimme a break. All the options are still there, they just don't give you a little sub-category for everything, and that IS realism.

Like or not, Beth isn't only trying to make games for the angry orthodox RPG gamers, there trying to make a freedom based fantasy world that ANYONE can approach and play how they want.

Which equals lack luster and boring as hell in the end. You can try to make a game all things to everyone; but, history has proven that this idea fails every time.

I forsee less skills. Soon it will be "melee, blocking, armour, archery, offensive magic, defensive magic, and lockpicking" And yes, those are the names of the individual skills. But don't worry, perks will be making a come-back!

I forsee less spells. Less weapons. More voice acting, but less dialogue options.

I forsee little to no change in the combat AI. Return of the dreaded level scaled loot and enemies. Overall less complexity and realism.

I forsee alchemy ingredients becoming weightless, but there will be prettier alchemy ingredients so hardly anyone will give a damn.

One thing that I'm looking forward to is the graphics improvements. They're doing a good job on that.

I forsee another release date similar to the 11-11-11 marketing gimmick that will only work against the quality of the game.

I forsee less variety of monsters/enemies.

That sounds epic though. On a serious note, I see TES evolving to bigger and better things them being good or bad only time will tell.

...At which point the businessman will change businessplans.

But guys...you're forgetting one important factor...the world is going to end next year! There is no future!

On a serious note, a new Elder Scrolls would probably take another 6-7 years, and I have no idea where the video game industry will be by then. Though I have a feeling that the huge boom in popularity with video games will slowly decline.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm pretty sure the boom began with the release of Call of Duty 4. Then when Modern Warfare 2 was released, it just utterly exploded. Literally everyone I knew was talking about and was obsessed with it. When something becomes that big that fast, it tends to be short lived. So perhaps in the future, Bethesda won't have to cater to the 'casual' crowd, because it will return to a small community of devoted players. I am by no means stating this as fact, it's just food for thought.

I personally wish to see the elder scrolls be set in every province at least once.

I just hope that the next elder scrolls doesn't go to High Rock, I've seen enough of the human provinces, I want something a bit more....exotic.....say Black Marsh or Valenwood.

We still don't know what the creation engine is capable of. It was downscaled for the Xbox360.

As for High Rock, in Skyrim, M'aiq says he is tired of snow, which means the developers are as well.

Hey Luke, do you like Skyrim and Morrowind? Also, do you think Bethesda will ever go backwards and try to make a TES like Morrowind?

I love them both. If I were a developer, I wouldn't want to remake something I did before. I'd rather create new experiences.
