[RELz] The Gambler

Post » Mon Aug 23, 2010 8:38 pm

I've got a fun little thing here that I call http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ez0UjPW4JA

I've finally managed to make MGE shaders with the help of Yacoby. :goodjob: This is a dice game that you can play for gold. The dice roll appears on the screen:

1. PLUGIN DESCRIPTION

TITLE: The Gambler
VERSION: 1.0

PLUG-IN TYPE: Tweak

BY: Fliggerty
CONTACT: http://www.fliggerty.com

There is a dice game called Che-han that is played all over Tamriel, mostly played
by soldiers and in taverns. The game is simple: a small cup contains two dice.
Once a wager is made, the cup holder chooses either even or odd. When the dice are
rolled, whether the sum of the pips showing is even or odd determines the winner.

There is an Imperial hanging out in an out-of-the-way corner of Wolverine Hall who
enjoys a good game of dice. You may be able to win a set of Che-han dice from him.
He also has a few neat trinkets. There is an amulet which, when worn while you have
his naginata in your possession, will randomly either greatly fortify or slightly drain
your luck, with a different value each day.

This mod is dependent upon Morrowind Graphics Extender (MGE)

7. THANKS

*****************************************************************

Too many right now. Still compiling the list.
But to start it off:

Yacoby: Helped me finally sort out how to make an MGE shader
AlienSlof: I used some clothing resources from Slof's Goth Shop II
MightyJoeYoung: Made the fedora mesh
Detrius: Created the naginata weapon mesh
Westly: Made the head used (it is also playable...it's very special to me. ;))
ps33: Always my scripting mentor. While having nothing directly to do with this mod, nevertheless
I would not have known how to use MWSE without his infinite patience and support.
FreshFish: For giving us MWSE.
CDCooley: For continuing the support of MWSE
Bryss Phoenix: As always, infinite support and patience!
Everybody else who has always been supportive of modders in general.

Excellent!

I love games of chance; when my new compy arrives, I will be
sure to add this to a new game (modding is my game ATM :( ).

Great Job  !

When I first saw the thread title, I thought about Kenny Rogers. :hehe:

Joking aside, this does look like fun, I'm gonna DL it and try it.... sometime when I actually play next. Good work once again, Fliggerty.

Does this open up things like black jack and other games of chance?

Well I suppose it could. Fullscreen shaders really aren't all that hard to make. But for a game such as blackjack it would require a lot of them. And the scripting...wow. It took a while to sort out how exactly to run a game with two dice. Fifty-two cards would be a real challenge...though it could certainly be done.

You are a god Fliggerty! I've been a lover of these kind of mini-games since the golden age of Sierra introduced me to Awari in QFG3. :goodjob:

This sounds wonderful, Fliggerty! :goodjob: One of my favorite mini-games in the Witcher is the dice poker game. Could something like that be implemented for Morrowind?

This sounds like a fun mod, unfortunately I could never get MGE to work well with MWE and MWSE on my computer. I also thought of Kenny Rogers. :)

Excellent - I spent many hours playing dice in The Witcher (err, that's a sort of poker, rather) and always missed the experience in the Elder Scrolls...

Thank you!

When I try to play a game, the screen goes white instead of displaying dice. I'm using MGE 3.3.2, is this the correct one?

It'd be nice to see more gamblers in the world with dice, hanging out in dark alleys near a barrel or in taverns.

As far as I am aware it should work with any version of MGE. Have you enabled hardware shaders? Also, double check to make sure the shaders are in the proper directory, same as they are compressed in the rar file.

Whoops, I did not have hardware shaders on. I'll give that a shot. Thanks!

I've released an updated version of this. There was a bug that sometimes caused shaders to not properly appear.
