I'm not going to be able to get a decent PC in the near future, but I did just get an HDTV, and Oblivion has never looked as good as it does now to me.

Ah, so you finally got a HDTV! Like me, do you find it makes the game so much more immersive?

This game is SO not dead. Thousands of people play it every day, and some of the greatest mods ever have just been released. Don't worry. :)

Get them to look at the mod section. :P

Exactly! You should get to it right away!

oblivion will never die as long as we keep making new ways to play it.

Exactly! :goodjob:
As long as there are mods, Oblivion will continue to live.

Simply look at Morrowind's community still standing strong, or any other older game community that release mods and add-ons.

True,true...

I'll be dead before Oblivion is.

Even without mods, Oblivion will continue to live. Oblivion's role-playing potential is great. The replayability, size, and role-playing potential of Obliviomn are great enough to keep Oblivion alive for years, unmodded.

I can't consider this game dead its just impossible

One thing I have noticed though, is that whenever I play Halo 3 on XBOX Live, I do the "Compare Games" option with the other players and I hardly ever see anyone that has played Oblivion. Maybe its just a different mindset or mentality between us and the "average" Halo 3 player (whatever that means), but still it does strike me as being odd. So it may not be as popular of a game as I think it should be.

Many of those who play Halo 3 are very young players and Oblivion was released almost four years ago. For some of the youngest players, four years is an eternity.

I'm supremely confident, that Cyrodiil is a fine place for my char to live for the next few years. Maybe a year or two after TES 5 is out, and the debuggers and modders and wiki'ers have had some time with it, I might move her to there and continue. Perhaps someday she can kill all the baddies and live peacefully, but they just seem to keep coming back. Good grief, you'd think that after you clear a cave a dozen times, the bandits would learn it's not healthy for them to return, but noooo. B)

I'd bet these "friends" that say the game is dead just played around with the console commands for 20 minutes and decided that was all they wanted to do in the game -.-

True, but you do seem to have a lot more patience with Bethesda's games than the average player does. Don't get me wrong, even vanilla Oblivion is among my favorite games, but I thought it was time to grab it for PC.

Hell no! In a couple hundred years, Fallout 3 will be a hit!

(Well, it is now, but in 200 years, wow..)

It's still on store shelves. Dead games don't leave store shelves.

Perhaps these "friends" need longer attention spans.

sure, oblivion is a bit old and maybe showing it age against modern gaming, but i haven't found a 1st person RPG with as much scope or attention to detail as oblivion yet? and i have a strong feeling that i won't until TES5...

i only started playing Oblivion in 2007, but i really haven't stopped... sure i go out and buy the new stuff, but i still pop back to Cyrodiil for either a couple of hours or the whole day!

to say Oblivion is Dead is a bit strong, maybe drawing a pension... until the new baby pops out i will continue to venture around Cyrodiil and persuade the citizens that i really am THE champion of cyrodill

If someone where to install a texture-modded Oblivion (QTP3 and some character textures) on my PC and I had never played it before I would be enthralled for months and impressed with its look. No, its not dead.

Far from it. It's still being sold on shelves, and the modding community is one of the most active I have ever seen.

sad that so many seem to think that old games are somehow not fun anymore because something new came out? :P
