CVG doesn't have me worried. Either poor word choice or they're miscalculating. It'd be a poor effort on Pete Hines and his PR team if this was true which it's not.

I choose to believe the other previews and the many times Howard and Hines have explained this, it's gonna be fine.

Ok, well how would he know anyway? Did he see or play all of it? Did he measure it with a ruler? lol I doubt he knows what he's talking about silly reporters.

There is no way that Skyrim, even if it is smaller kilo wise, will feel enormous. If you measure how long it takes you to get from one end of the map to the other, even though the distance on the map may look smaller, it will probably take you longer due to rough terrain and whatnot. For example, if you go from one end of Cyrodiil to the exact opposite side of the map and measure it, it will probably take longer to make the same voyage in Skyrim.

At this point I'm not too concerned about the size. If it is about the size of Cyrodiil that should quite large. The smaller than Morrowind comment is probably not accurate.

Wasn't Fallout 3's world also MUCH smaller than Oblivion? Never ever did i feel the world was too small, and i highly doubt Skyrim will be smaller.

Fallout 3 is smaller than Oblivion, I don't know about much smaller. But for me, particularly after several play throughs, Fallout 3 seems much smaller.

One thing about Fallout 3 is that the explorable area is pretty close to rectangular. Vs Morrowind and Oblivion which have a very irregular shaped area, making it difficult to calculate the actual size.

The number often cited for Cyrodiil's size is 16 square miles. But in counting up the cells it appears to actually be something like 7 square miles or so. Still it's very large. But sizes based on square mile estimates can be very misleading.

I'm not worried. Oblivion was big, sure. But much of it was automated. ...

A persistent rumor that is just not true. Exploring Oblivion shows that it is clearly not "automated". And lots of "personal touches" too. Except for the planes of Oblivion that were "automated"

How small can 150 "hand crafted" dungeons be exactly? not to mention other places of interest outside of the main storyline. I really don't think there is anything to worry about here.

Bleak Falls Barrow was like a 15 minute dungeon. Todd said there will be 2 hour dungeons.

What would be more fun and more adventurous, walking every inch of 10 square miles of desert or climbing a mountain (searching every square inch) that covered that same 10 square miles but rose into the sky 20,000 feet? Wonder how many caves you would find in that mountain vs that flat desert?

He's talking about the MAP size:
http://images.wikia.com/elderscrolls/images/8/83/Tamriel_map.gif
Take a look at that...
Morrowind and Cyrodiil are bigger than Skyrim... It's true...

BUT! What about Daggerfall? Do you remember?
It's bigger than Oblivion, Morrowind, Skyrim and other maps combined... And it takes place in Hammerfell and High Rock!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the game Morrowind take place in Vvardenfell, which is the large island of Morrowind? Wouldn't that make Skyrim bigger?

No worries about the size. I just like the vid they have up on that page. Todd said DLC size and quality between Point lookout and Shivering Isles :) yeah

They played a demo in a small window of time. For them to even briefly consider they had an idea as to how large Skyrim definitively is in that short amount of time is nothing short of arrogance coupled with a profound ignorance of previous Elder Scrolls games.

I'm betting he was talking about the size of the continent on the map. He only saw a bit of the actual play space in the preview he played. It will about the same as OB. Don't trust what the journalists say.

Yeah they based it upon the looks of it when watching the tamriel map. Morrowind is in-fact VERY small, believe it or not.

Yes!
but this doesn't mean much...
Daggerfall was bigger than Oblivion... (It's about the size of Great Britain(88,744 sq mi), according to http://www.elderscrolls.com/daggerfall/) And the size of Hammerfell and High Rock are not that different from Cyrodiil
Oblivion map is like 16 sq miles... about 88744 sq mi is too much

They just stared at the demo and then came to the conclusion that's the entire world of Skyrim.

Like they have been saying, the land will be more dense with content. It seemed like Oblivion had 3/4 of the map was forest that had nothing to do it in.

I am glad its smaller than oblivion.....there was a ton of wasted space in Oblivion......sometimes your walking around and you see nothing interesting.... the cut and paste caves didnt help either...... a smaller more alive world is what will make me a happy gamer....

Which, if you think about it, is about right. Most of a forest is pretty dull

The person looked at the lore map and thought "that must be the game size!!". I'll wait for a dev to say this before I believe it.

I don't think we can say for sure until we've played the game. Pete Hines said that it's about the same size as Oblivion (and yes, he meant THE SAME SIZE, not slightly smaller. The reason they can't pinpoint an exact comparison is because of different scaling.) Then I've heard it's smaller geographically but larger in density. Then I've heard it's smaller but feels bigger because of mountains. Then I've heard it's the same size but bigger because of mountains.
