The game is empty

Post » Sun Dec 04, 2011 6:54 pm

Looking back to old rpg games of the '90, it's impressive how the game looks empty. It lacks of monsters.
Get rid of the fauna on open spaces, you only meet humans and what else?
Where are the might and magic monsters for example ?
Hundreds and hundreds...
http://www.the-spoiler.com/RPG/New.World.Computing/might..magic.6.1/mm6.html#tm

The best strongest monster I found was a winter troll (or what was the name?). Impossible to kill at level 6.
Why this choice?
Where are all the other monsters? too few in my opinion...

Those cliffs are pretty empty. Almost makes me think something should... race on them.

the unavoidable sideffect of having a high detail, big, open sandbox rpg that needs to be done fast enough to avoid pissing of fans.

I agree that there should be more monsters. I mean, there is no challenge after you are level 30. What's the point of having legendary dragon set if you can kill any monsters with a normal orcish set?

Also, anyone else pissed about dragon fights? It gets old so fast... shoot arrows while he is flying and kill him when he lands, then you get the same stuff all the time. And the worst part is that it that you can't avoid the fight once you find one.

Because most of the terrible monsters have been banished during the events of the previous game, and this game is primarily about dragons and a civil war.

That list is mostly a list of levelled monsters, 35 in total including variations on Human Mage, Human Priest, if I'm not mistaken, I think there are actual more different types of creature than that in Skyrim.

With the balanced levelling range in the game you may not come across many of them until you've explored more and leveled up more.

I don't have problems with monsters but the towns are not populated enough. There's maybe 100 NPCs in total living in cities of skyrim. 500 being bandit douchebags in the wilds. Not enough.

A greater variety of enemies would be nice... but I don't think i'd want a larger quantity of enemies populating the gameworld. Between the dragons and the wolves, it already feels as though my exploration is constantly being interrupted every 5 minutes.

Maybe bethesda focused on a living, real world. But really I do not get it.
I am not talking about a diablo experience, no. But the old rpg style yes please!
The fact we have auto regen should make sense to build a world full of mobs...

More variety of monsters would definitely be great. But it does not help to just add more monster types when they do not differ. My impression is that all monsters are pretty much the same, some are just stronger than others, not really different.

I was actually surprised that i could easily kill skeletons with my bow!? How does that work? Blunt weapons yes but an arrow? No need to adjust my strategy.
Also being attacked by a spider does not make a big difference to any other enemy. Permanent poisoning or paralysing by spider silk? Not really. They basically deal some damage and slow you down a little bit. Thats it.

Every monster type should have distinct weaknesses and powers that make a noticeable difference in fighting strategy.
Maybe there are some factors running in the background which i have not noticed, like maybe frost resistance for snow troll or something like that?
In that case i would like to have some kind of notification like 'i have the impression that my frost-magic is less efficient on that creature'.

Nope I don't agree, it is a different time and place so the 'Monsters' have to meet the lore of the area, since the Oblivion gates were shut that counts out most Daedra, so what is left is normal wildlife such as packs of wolves, bears (which can be nasty in packs btw) some Trolls and yes Bandits, oh and that Rascist Nord that told me to go home (my charachter is Bosmer) then she proceeded to die soon after! Any more and people would be here complaining it was too hard and they don't get a chance to rest!

Btw you run into Wisp Mothers.... arggghhhh shes a nasty one, handed me my butt lots of times :)

I disagree.

I'm content with how many there are now...rather like this than the alternative.Because if they add more they won't add a few but overkill.

And if I wanted loads of monsters every damn corner ..I would play FF.

My pref would be more wild life and better interaction capabilities.A few more random troops moving prisoners around to hijack etc.

Most of all...i'd like a fishing rod.

Shame people are so negative here, rather than enjoy the game for what it is you pull it apart for what it's not...

I expect you hear the phrase "nothing I do is ever good enough for you" quite a lot from family and partners etc.

We are just saying the facts, once you hit lvl 30 every thing is cake. And when you hit 40 and higher the game is a joke.
I kill elder dragons, Druagur death overlords, Archmages within a minute c'mon.

I agree. I loved the Bulder Gate's games, Neverwinternights and the Might and Magic series.. RPG nowadays don't give me the same feeling and satisfaction it did back then. I am not sure why. For example, i loved Divine Divinity, but i know for sure if there is a new Divinity game i enjoy it, but not as much as i did back then. Maybe because i am getting older? Don't think so, i could play Eye of Beholder, Lands of Lore, Dungeon Hack or even Thunderscape again and love it more then any RPG now.

It's not being negative. If the next sixth elder would full of butterflyes and birds and five goblins would it be nice?
We are just discussing how bad is the feeling. Try playing some old games and "feel it" yourself.
Damn, we have the auto regen always on, where is the sense to escape from a dungeon and sleep in a tavern to regen?
Why should I eat ? Why should I sleep?
3 wolves in an open space from a city to another are not enough, come on.

And how about the game difficutly in a RPG ?! WTF?!! This is the worst sad invention of the previous game... difficulty level... pweh....
