Does Fallout3 support 1080p on the PS3? I would expect that NV will be exactly the same in this regard.

IIRC the consoles only actually output at a max of 720p and then upscales it.

I don't know of any games that run on 1080P on consoles.

Fallout 3 ran at 720P on the PS3, so I'm guessing it upscales for higher resolutions.

It'll run as high as your console will allow, which is pretty good. Graphics should be the lowest of low on the list of concerns.

Really? As far as I know, whatever resolution the game supports is what you're going to get. The PS3 will only upscale if you change the setting for it to do so. But if you leave it alone, it'll output the highest the game supports.

Fallout 3 and Oblivion for example only support a max of 720p.
COD4 supports a max of 1080p.

COD4 on the consoles run at 1024x600 pixels actually.

I'm not a 100% sure, but I think Forza 3 was 1080p native.

Few games on the consoles actually output 1080p at native resolutions. Most upscale, sometimes drastically. Most games tax the PS3 and 360 enough that it is impossible to output at true 1080p and maintain 30 frames a second, particularly open world games. Red Dead Redemption rendered out to 644p on the PS3.

Of course on the PC you can output to whatever resolution your hardware and monitor support.

If FO3 didn't support 1080p on consoles, I highly doubt New Vegas will.

So FNV will be 720 then...

On the PS3, will it be HD3D? And when are they going to make the 19" 3DHDTV's?

PS3 can output true 1080p, some PSN games and WipeOut HD did (before they implemented the 3D aspect for WipeOut). In regards to Fallout:New Vegas, it'll be 720p as they'd want to get the balance between graphics and performance just right, if it was 1080p you may see drops in performance. And this game isn't fully designed for PS3 anyway, as it's multiplatform.

Only some early or simpler games of current console generation have native 1080p. This was one of the dissapointments in the PS3 hardware on release (read copy pasta).

----
Nvidia was on the money with its President's comments last May: resolution is indeed the enemy of graphics. Our insider explains: "Sony wanted 1080p, but we're working at 720p and 1080i, same as on the Xbox 360. Even with [final hardware] in mind, reaching good frame rates at 1080p with next-gen graphics is almost impossible. Instead many developers, ourselves included, are reworking so they run at 720p.
----
So if you want your games in 1080p and beyond just play with an middleclass pc.

A monitor at 19"? That's promising. Just waiting for the TV3D at 19" so I don't have to break the bank on a giant HD3DTV 55". And fit it through the door.

It doesnt render the game at 1080p though, its upscaling it.

Nope, still 720p upscaled to 1080p. The PS3/Xbox360 do not have the power to handle newer AAA games in native 1080p, but that doesnt make the games look so much worse, its still fun to play. My first playthrough will be on the xbox later on the pc with mods.
