The game was really fun until I actually started the story..

(Spoilers ahead friends!)

Okay, so let me first preface: I'm not saying the story isn't fun. That's actually not the issue at all. There's lots of fun to be had in the story.

The problem is that it is not scripted well at all, and this is where it's just sapping my will to load up the game altogether.

So I did what I do in just about every Bethesda game (well, every game in general): AVOID THE STORY AT ALL COSTS until it's either necessary to progress in side quests, or I've finished all of the non-tedious side quests I can find. About 60 hours in, I finally decided it was time to resume where I left off in the story, after doing all of the Railroad, Brotherhood, and Minutemen faction side quests and world side quests that I could.

(Again, spoilers ahead friends)

I'm basically playing with all of the factions until they force me to choose one, to maximize my questing and stuff to do. And this is where it becomes obvious that they should have forced you to pick one faction and then never let you interact with the others again. Either that or they should have took the time to test and implement the alternative properly.

I built the teleporter with the Minutemen, but the Railroad interacts like they were the ones to help me build it.

I had a couple quests to turn in to Desdemona, but she wouldn't let me turn them in until I promised to give up the Minutemen in favor of the Railroad.

Despite not informing the Brotherhood at all about Bunker Hill, not only did they show up (maybe they do anyway), but all of the interactions indicate that I informed them and not the Railroad (the opposite is true).

On and on and on and on. I don't even know what ending I'm going to get when the game itself doesn't seem to have a clue what the hell I'm actually doing. :(

This is probably the most disconcerting thing I've read so far. :(

If it's of any comfort, the Brotherhood show up no matter what. I did an Institute run and no one acted like I had personally gone up to Maxon and assisted him at the last minute.

I guess I made the smart choice when I started the game with four different characters, all choosing different routes and aligning towards different factions. I get to see all the content the game has to offer, just through the eyes of different characters with each of them forming a more cohesive story.

I play them simultaneously, I switch from one to the next every couple of days. I think I am nearing completion, they all progress faster through the story since they don't explore everywhere and do every quest like you would with one completionist playthrough.

I think I was fortunate with coming up with concepts that fit very well with the different faction stories (which I didn't know when I created the characters), so I am having quite a good experience.

A suburban housewife with drug and alcohol problems, part of a pre-war government experiment were they tried to create unaware assassin drones through genetic and cybernetic implants. Always thought she was just an ordinary, miserable housewife, until she picked up a gun and realised her killer potential. Following the institute questline.

A disgruntled war-veteran, part of a pre-war survivalist movement, highly mistrusting of authority and government. Well prepared and trained for the wasteland environment he seeks revenge against all institutionalised government. Following the minutemen questline.

An idealist civil rights lawyer, under constant scrutiny from the government she spent several terms in lockup for associating with the wrong people before the great war and learned how to handle a weapon in case someone powerful decided to send assassins after her. Secretive and illusive, she is very cautious of who she deals with. Following the railroad questline.

A former member of the military intelligence, an old school company man that gets the job done without questions asked. Expert in science and demolitions but also has extensive military training. Smart, efficient and professional. Following the Brotherhood of Steel questline.

Many of the quests and stories would not fit for all of these characters, but there's always at least one who would be likely to get involved in every particular story. For example the third character became the Silver Shroud, while it would have been a poor fit for the other three.

I did a quest for the RR only to figure out when I arrived at the location all the synths were friendly and Deacon was shooting them on his own.

Then after this weird "allied to all factions" crap, there was still more of it when I did the fight for bunker hill quest siding with the Institute. NOT really knowing what was going on yet again cause everything was "allied" to me LOL. Then when I decided to shoot stuff up, the courser with me died and it "failed" the quest. Then when going back to the Institute they said I informed both BOS & RR. LOL??

I feel you ;<
