[REL] The Ghouls of Nehwon

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 6:44 am

After spending an entire week fiddling around in NifScope trying to figure out why Kreeskra's elbows had disappeared, I finally figured out that I'd forgotten the "forearm" body part in the contruction set. But they're finally here...

THE GHOULS OF NEHWON

A modder's resource for a new race of NPC, with (almost) clear flesh and opaque bones. Inspired by the Ghouls from the Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser stories by Fritz Leiber, the Ghouls had crystal-clear flesh, so you could see their bones inside. They ate human flesh - "mud-men" flesh - because they felt a religious compulsion to "purify" the opaque flesh by digesting it and thereby making it clear. Fafhrd had an affair with a ghoul woman for a while - must have been quite a sight.

The meshes are based on the anatomically correct version of Better Bodies. Not that you can really see them...

The mod includes males and females, and one head and one hair for each six. The heads are fully animated, including a moving jawbone. The hairs are just empty meshes, since I thought they looked stupid with hair. However, if you want hair, just copy a hair mesh into the ghouls folder and give it the same name as the existing hair mesh.

This is not (yet) a playable race. I'm not sure I see the point in making it playable - you'd be unable to wear armor, as it would pretty much cancel the main reason for playing as a Ghoul. If you really wanted to, there are already playable skeletal races. But I'm looking into it, more because it sounds like a neat challenge than anything else.

Consider this Version 1.0. Let me know of any problems.

intresting, me likes it!!!

One small nag though - The bones. They looked "bleach white", would you be able to make then slightly less bright, perhaps a light grey colour??

Do Better Bodies clothes display properly with those bones? If yes, then people will definitely want a playable version of these.

I was looking forward to Playing as one. :cold:
Part of the fun in having this kind of body would be equipping clothing/armor, and trying for a really interesting look.

Midgetalien: I made the bones that white because I believe that to be the color of living human bone. (I've seen it twice, once in surgery and once when I filleted my finger.) Do you have NifScope?

Plangkye: Better bodies clothing should fit just fine. However, there may be some weird side effects if the clothing replaces a body part to which a bone is attached.

dagoth_jeff: I plan on working on making it playable soon. It's just a matter of finding or creating a good skeletal hand mesh to make the first-person hands.

yes it is to a degree that colour, just the word "ghoul" made me think undead...... But never mind. Apart from that one thing the race is awsome, congratulations :D

Am I doing something wrong? I put the nifs in meshes, and loaded the plugin - but when I drop the male or female NPC into a cell, I get 3 mesh errors, and a huge white blob is in their place.

The meshes go in a subfolder named "ghouls" inside the meshes folder.

Finally got that one figured out. This mod is really impressive.
I couldn't do anything with the ghoul sword - is that normal? I couldn't click-drag it to anywhere.

Oh, jeez, I forgot the ghoul sword was in there. I stuck that in there just to see it, and forgot to remove it. I may have stuck it in as a static. It is still a work in progress.

I tested the ghouls with some clothing mods - everything works just fine. Again, this is just awesome.
It's so cool to have something different.

This thread's been dead a while :P You'd be better off Pming Phaedrus, but I haven't seen him for a while.

He's probably out enjoying the pleasures of real life. After all, ghouls just want to have fun.

I am trying to figure out where this mod went. I've got the meshes, but no longer have the ESP. As soon as I find it (or someone who downloaded it can send me a copy?) I'll put it up on FilePlanet. I'm surprised there is still interest in it.

This sounds pretty neat! I'd love to try a character as one of these, just for fun. I'm surprised I didn't see this when it first came out!

I'm still interested. I want to play around with my Maormer mod again to see if I can't get it right. But I wanted you're original file.

Definitely upload :D
