Is the Glass Half Empty or Half Full?

Post » Tue Oct 12, 2010 5:46 am

A more important question: Where did the glass of water come from and how am I sure it's water that's in it?

It is quite clearly twice as big as it needs to be. In this age of cuts, we should ask ourself should we not limit ourself to smaller glasses? This question keeps coming up so there must be many such glasses that are incorrectly sized.

I don't think so. My guess is he's just your average 2-foot tall man. Though it serves him right for ordering the Venti.

I must admit that I never understood this question. The two statements are not exclusive so what kind of idiot thinks that a glass is half full while not being half empty or vice versa? How can it be half full without being half empty or vice versa? In order for it to be half full the other half needs to be empty (or vice versa), so not only are the two statements not mutually exclusive, they directly imply each other.

You must be fun at parties.

I admit, I am better at horizontal activities than I am at vertical ones.

The cup is just twice as big than it needs to be.

I honestly don't know how my outlook on life is, to be frank. I suppose I'd be a little more pessimistic though.

I admit, I am better at horizontal activities than I am at vertical ones.

That's unfortunate - a glass on its side would have to be entirely empty. Barring a sippycup lid, of course. Or perhaps the vacuum of space. Or the glass' contents being solid or gaseous rather than liquid. Or if the sideways glass was just relative to the room that contains the glass, such as might be the case with a tipped-over tornado-ravaged trailer. Or it was at the whim of capacious amounts of lateral kinetic energy, forcing its contents to remain inside. And if any of those are the case, then I daresay there might be more pressing matters than the glass.

I hope the glass is half full, but I'm prepared for it to be half empty.

That sounded better in my head... What I meant is that I hope for the best to happen, but prepare for the worst.

Mate, if when you're horizontal there aren't more pressing matters than the glass then your glass is completely empty anyway.

The Glass is practically empty, so fill it back up again.

There is no glass, just cake, and the cake is a lie :-(

"Wait a minute, this isn't water, it's vodka!"

One of my professors came in with a bottle of clear liquid every morning and kept reassuring us that it was indeed water and not vodka

That class was fun
