Name: The Golden Crest

Author: Kafana(Nikola Luburic)

Description: The Golden Crest is a major quest mod that in it's current version has 45 quests and currently offers at the very least 35+ hours of gameplay. Once you help a pirate in Anvil escape the clutches of the Imperial Guard you are on your way to becoming a pirate. At the start you serve on The Wailing Butcher, a strong and sturdy vessel. It isn't long before you go from the rank of Swabie to boatswain and start raiding ships, islands and castles with your crew mates. Eventually you acquire a ship of your own and become captain. With a home on the water and a crew under your command the plunderin' beings!

Features:

- A number of quests, most of which last longer than most vanilla quests.

- As you play you eventually acquire your own small quarters in the ship, but once you acquire a ship of your own you get a fully crewed ship equipped with your own smith, cook and doctor as well as half a dozen boatswains.

- A cozy acquirable house in the Nibenay Basin. A perfect location for any outlaws, vampires, thieves and, of course, pirates. Of course, what wilderness hideout would be complete without a secret?

- A tavern for pirates, thieves, treasure hunters and bounty hunters. What tavern would be complete without an underground ring? Features a dice game, a fight club and a long list of people with bounties on their heads for you to hunt.

Quests include so far:

- Raiding an enemy tobacco plateau and acquiring it for yourself.

- Boarding ships and plundering their storage.

- Recruiting new people for your crew.

- Establishing a constant income for your crew by helping your captain take control of a gold mine.

- Laying siege on the enemy's castle and taking it for yourself.

- Large scale battles, possibly bigger than that of the Battle for Bruma, where you don't question who you slash, you just slash.

- Challenging whoever you wish to a fist fight.

- Collecting ancient Ayleid gems used to open the ultimate treasure chest(part of the buried treasure which every pirate wants for himself).

- Taking part in a horse chase, a long and hard horse chase.

- Exploring a strange and mysterious island with a story of it's own.

- Interacting with your crew by talking to them about their background, taking them out for a drink, sending them to the brig or giving them presents.

- Quests with moral and practical choices which will effect the outcome of the quest, your reward, your standing in the crew and further quests.

- Raid a ghost ship.

- Repeatable raiding quests.

- Becoming one of the mightiest beings in Tamriel, a buccaneer.

More to come:

- Acquire an island for yourself and your crew.

- Uncover the biggest treasure this side of the Abecean Sea.

- Become a pirate lord.

Alongside the Golden Crest you receive, of course, a crew of half a dozen boatswains, a crew smith, cook/doctor and your trusty first mate, a brig and the ability to travel to various islands. And, of course, your very own personal quarters. The ship also has a few secrets of its own...

Current progress: I would say that I am about 70% done. What's to come next is hard to say, but the first thing will be repeatable quests and quests given to you by your crew members that relate to their particular background story (as seen in Neverwinter Nights, Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age).

FAQ

How many people are working on this project?

Only me at the moment. I'm looking for good modelers for misc and small meshes but I don't really need anybody to work with me "full time" for the time being.

Will your quest mod feature voice acting?

In the beta(alpha) version it won't. My biggest problem is that there are 35 quests now and more will come and each quest has a lot of dialogues and as I'm sure you know it's hard to get good voice actors for minor projects, let alone major ones. So, it will feature voice acting if I am able to find enough voice artists. Probably not, though.

Will there be quests after the rank of captain?

Yes. There will be repeatable quests such as raiding ships and plundering forts/castles but there will also be a dozen or so quests which will allow the player to progress to the rank of Pirate Lord and acquire an island hideout for himself and his crew.

Will there be quest map markers?

In only one or two quests map markers will be placed, however they won't be placed at the exact location of the target, just the area of the target.

Is this mod hard?

Yes, the quests are rather hard. This mod has been tested on 0 difficulty(-100 being the easiest and 100 being the hardest) with a level 1 character(which advanced a few levels while doing the quests) and it was pretty difficult for me, and I'm the mod designer. It was also tested with a level 40 character with full madness set and impressive equipment and some quests were once again challenging. Suffice to say it's a lot more harder than vanilla Oblivion.

This looks really wonderful Kafana! Can't wait to see it finished. :foodndrink:

As for voice actors, stop in the TES Alliance and our Voice Actors Guild to find us when you're at that stage. :D We're usually very good about multiple projects. You can message individual VA's and listen to samples from our Archive here: http://www.tesalliance.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=25

Or post your needs in our Project Forum here and recruit volunteers: http://www.tesalliance.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=27

No problem at all! Always happy to help and I like the looks of this mod. :D Wouldn't mind doing a voice or two myself when you get there, if you need any girls that is. :foodndrink:

Can you actually steer the ship?
Or does it just kind of seem like it's in the water?

regardless it sounds like a lot of fun.

I'd just love to see a mod with a steerable ship, you could drive along the coast.

I'll be getting this one.
I might wait for final though, seeing as I have so many other mods I still need to beat..
but this sounds like a lot of fun.

Thanks a bunch.

Well, I'll have to think about it. The only real problem with making the player steer the ship is the AI of the crew. I suppose I could disable it while the player is steering the ship but I'll think about it.

Yes, I'll need a girl voice actor. In my experience(based on some of my other projects for other games) I've seen that female voice actors are scarce so thanks for the offer :)

I would like to point out that I would also like to hear if you have any requests or suggestions for a quest. For example, if you believe a certain quest would be a good pirate related quest and I haven't mentioned it in the above short description please feel free to suggest it.

A quest against the Imperial Legion or a rival pirate crew would be interesting

Well, those are already included(I mentioned boarding ships, enemy island outposts, enemy forts). By enemy I mean rival pirates. There are also a few quests involved in dealing with the Imperial Watch.

Wow, things go really fast on this forum from page 1 to page 5. Just a little bump so more people can see this thread.

I'd recommend against it. There are two steerable ship mods out there that I know of, and they're both pretty buggy. Bella Moretta, By Grumblepunk, causes a crash VERY often, like about 3/5 times you try to start the ship.

Then there's Reneer's ship mod, which I think is far...less. It doesn't have an interior, etc. etc. But, this is the real problem: It's interface is a menu. So, if you want to turn the ship, you activate the wheel, then a box opens up, and you click on turn, and the ship turns a preset angle in the direction you indicated. So, it's very hard to control the ship. BOTH of them have issues with the ship being able to go through land.

It may be possible (I have no idea if it is) to make a preset travel path, and have the ship follow that, but you wouldn't have any control of it. (just add a navigator to the crew, and say he's controlling the ship. Then, in your "Attack a merchant" quests, you can have the pirate in various positions in relation to the target vessel, and thereby have some variety in angle of attack, and how the whole scene plays out.

Well, those are already included(I mentioned boarding ships, enemy island outposts, enemy forts). By enemy I mean rival pirates. There are also a few quests involved in dealing with the Imperial Watch.

Should be quests against the Imperial Navy, not the Watch.

Could you guys try to avoid fighting please?

Anyway, I am aware of those two mods mentioned above but one of them is a home mod and the other has been/seems abandoned since it's last update was a year or so ago. What this mod brings is a new guild of sorts that gives you plenty of quests and it takes you at least 3 quests to advance in rank, unlike most vanilla guilds where you advance in rank after one or two quest.

Oh, and I guess I made a mistake in my previous post. It is in fact the Imperial Navy, not the Imperial Watch that you'll fight.
