The Gore/Nudity Suggestion & Concensus

Post » Mon Jul 18, 2011 11:07 pm

Well sorry to say that mods are limited and from the ones I have seen even the top 100 they lack the talent that Bethesda brings to the table.

I don't know what top 100 list you are looking at, but I have seen some great mods.
When it comes down to it, nudity is not needed. Gore isn't needed, however gore can make Combat and Finishing moves look better.
I have no idea what nudity will make look better.

Well sorry to say that mods are limited and from the ones I have seen even the top 100 they lack the talent that Bethesda brings to the table. Even though some of the moders are actually on there pay roll. There is only so far you can go with modding. Besides that is a very tired argument your using. People have said that for 10 years and I am afraid your not alone anymore you have ps3, and xbox here with you and they want a say too. It upsets people because they have a specific way they want it done but if it goes in the way it's suggested there really couldn't be any complaints. People moaned and groaned about the hardcoe switch but when it went in it dissipated. Something politicons have learned is people get comfortable with something and once you change even the smallest thing they scream and fight until what's done is done and when they find out what happened actually helped the government or game in this case they stop yelling non sense and apologize. But we are not talking about politics here. We are talking about very plain and simple graphics and how realistic they should be.

(emphasis mine)

Sorry but I disagree with this. People are not generally as petty and arbitrary as the statement in bold suggests. I see and hear people give actual reasons why they take one position or another on a given subject all the time rather than just mindlessly clinging to the status quo, as the statement in bold suggests, be they big or small issues. Also, when "what's done is done" and the opposition dies down, I don't think the only explanation is that people changed their preference; could be that many people lose hope that they can have any influence on the outcome--especially if we're talking about a video game feature after the game has already shipped! In this case (video game already shipped) the only reasonable thing to do (if you really care what people think in the first place) is to give people the benefit of actually meaning what they say if asked, before the fact, and not imputing meaning after the fact.

The problem with nudity in vid games is the devs arnt anywhere near as perverted as I am they are however almost as sick and demented so gore comes out rather nicely.

Well that's why i wrote the suggestion. It explains it all if you would only read. ::):

With the argument that it isn't needed we could just as well say the same thing about thousands of features in game. That is why that argument tends to fail. People love customization, and though it may be true it isn't needed that only proves just that. Not that it isn't wanted. Judging by the vast majority of voters, and posters I would say change to it is wanted. Now is it going to be exactly what I say? no, odds are it won't even be close if they do it. Same thing happened with my hardcoe suggestion and several others that went in. Was I upset no because it at least went in and it showed that they were at least willing to listen to us and try stuff out.

That's okay it's a free country you can disagree anytime. I see few intelligent people make there opinions known and the ignorant huddled masses follow blissfully unaware siding with whatever there friend says they like. Just like the bail out crap after it went in did you even see anyone else still fighting about it screaming in town hall videos? Nope. . . BUT this is a different topic if you wanna talk about this pm me. I love debate.

Back on topic. You had several good points but on each one there is that double edge of the sword. It cuts both ways. If they would of kept fighting and held out with hope and everyone knew that that feature was horribly inappropriate then economics kick in and demand needs a supply right? So they patch it with some middle ground. (my entire suggestion is a middle ground, having nudity isn't even the worse thing i have seen people want  I compromised.)

I didn't mean for it to say that they all just jump on board like nothing happened. I was speaking of course of people who are just ridiculous and there pride is the only thing that keeps them from liking a suggestion.

I'm ok with gore and nudity, but only if it's there to add depth and realism, rather than a "ZOMG BLOOD AND BEWBS" gimmick. I'm pretty sure Bethesda know the difference between "mature content" and "gratuitous content", so I'm not worried

The simple thing about nudity in video games is it adds realism, most people, upon removing their clothes, do not have underwear peemanently stuck to them (well, I hope not), nice to have the same thing in video games. Lol, sometimes when playing a game I'll download a nvde mod, and never remove my chars armor, it's just the knowledge that my char is more realistic that's important.
The same thing could be said for violence and gore to be honest. If you're going to hack at someone with a battleaxe, it's going to be grisly, there'll be blood and body parts flying every which way. Makes it more realistic for things like that to be in the game.

If there is nudity, I'd like to see underwear of some description in-game. It was a bit disturbing in Oblivion (with body mod) that my character apparently felt the need to strip down a corpse whenever he looted armour.

I guess I agree with the many people above that have repeatedly stated that they don't play games for titillation. But there are other perfectly valid reasons to want nudity in-game. Apart from the 'logic argument' that it simply doesn't make sense that your character cannot remove all of his clothes to go swimming or whatever, I could see myself making a character who was totally into having a collection of rotting naked corpses in his basemant. Or walking naked through town to the shock of the townspeople. Or all kinds of other fun things.

It gets on my nerves a tiny bit that perfectly sensible options in an RPG are limited simply because some people have a strange attitude to the human body. Kids playing a game where violence seems to solve everything is a lot more worrying, surely... and on top of that, the game will probably be rated 'mature' anyway, i.e. not meant for kids to play, so 'child-friendly' ought to be a non-issue. I mean, that's why we have a rating system, right?

Would much rather have no nudity but meaningful relationships, though. The total lack of romance (and generally any feelings for each other, other than 'Bandit! Kill him!') is really strange in an otherwise meticulously detailed gameworld. It would be cool to see NPC couples that are really crazy about each other, both young love-at-first-sight stuff and ancient married couples still together after however long the average Altmer lifespan is. Couples in Oblivion and Morrowind just seemed like random people living in the same house.

Remember that game that svcked, and didn't come out on the pc, and I was unable to play it. I think it was called Fable 3.
Well, this game mentioned a very good feature, and I don't know if it was delivered, the more evil you get the more brutal your attacks become.

I think this would be the best choice for this game, if you are a good guy, love to help others, enjoying the scenery, go ahead but those evil dudes that just kill people. I think they want they're attacks feal more effective and mean.

As I already stated once before, adding too much gore and "red light" content could ruin the atmosphere of the game.

On the Topic of Gore: So long as it is REALISTIC, the more detailed the better. Note, realistic being not horror buckets of guts and rivers of blood gushing from papercuts.

On the Topic of Nudity: It doesn't matter what they do. There will be mods for that, either to add or remove underwear.

So long as it doesn't reach blatant "gore/nudity/otherexplicitcontent for the sake of it" levels then I'm fine. Almost everything is fine if its handled in a proper and non-gratuitous manner. As such, I voted option #2.

Atmosphere is subjective from person to person.

And plus, Morrowind has its "House of earthly delights." So there is already precedent for the devs to include this.

I voted No. Most of the original poster's ideas are ok, but I have no special interest in either gore or nudity. I'm not offended by either personally, but the higher levels of gore eat into frame rates and nudity is superfluous. Gore is ok as an option as you say, but I'd rather they leave the nudity up to the modders. I'm sure many will feel it needs improvement and will do it over anyway.

Peace, +Petrose

I really don't see how prostitution and/or nudity is bad and atmosphere breaker for an RPG (rated M) as long as it stays indoors with big flag at the door. The "you don't like it then don't use it" formula is much more suited here than in the compass matter. You really can't complain that six is happening in a certain house in the town as long as you don't have to enter.

Well judging by the votes and comments everyone wants something done and some of theses features suggested. Good to see players being so active.

Anyways I found the blog with a picture of a bit of gore and it looks like they vastly improved the blood. http://bethblog.com/index.php/2011/01/24/skyrim-update-building-better-combat/

Well don't get me started on mods. Stupid invisible body high rez one and real time settler crap not working. Too many things can go wrong. So I might get the few stable mods there are.

II especially like the emotions part to be added to the game I feel as though its foolish that all the champs had that same monotone voice in oblivion. Or the generic dialog.

I think emotions should be added, but not over dramaticised. For example if you are a feared great dark overlord I dont want people on their knees bowing to their master with a simple greeting thats something for someone begging for forgiveness. I mean you greet an overlord with a Bow and saying "Greetings Dark lord". The same could be said with a hero, he is ALWAYS greeted with random claps in the air and the NPC's saying LOOK its the hero of X woo. *Npc's walk on doing their usual*

This could be applied to combat as well.

An Orc would be much more prone to fight then a bosmer for example. Or a bosmer would be intimidated by a giant Nord.

Fear: If an orc/nord are attacking a bosmer at 25% health he flees, a thing I would like to point out is however if the bosmer is a sword user and has his skill higher than the weapon skill that the player is useing then he shouldent flee due to pride or overconfidence in his abilities.

Anger: Upon being struck at high HP the NPC becomes hostile getting a boost to his stats.

etc

I'm just going to keep it simple and voice my own opinions.

1. Dismemberment.

Absolutely, I'd like tos ee this. In a game where people murder each other with swords, it's kind of hard to say "think of the children" with a straight face. Dismemberment makes sense, we know it works, it should be in for those reasons.

2. Nudity.

I have no issue with nudity, I don't see why anyone has. If nudity was included in the game, that would be fine by me. If not, I will get a mod for it soon enough. Seeing as people like to flip their [censored] over this kind of thing, I'm suggesting that it's kept out just to save us from some of the idiotic hissyfits that will inevitably be thrown.

Personal and subjective opinions have now been stated. Move along.

Yeah I felt like it was missing from the combat graphics and effects. bit surprising they haven't attempted to go for the draw an emotional response from the player card like mass effect, a few fallout missions, and dead space along with others.

Gore? Yes.
Nudity? Yes.
Further explanation? Not to the same extent anymore, because I've seen this topic on more occasions than I bother to keep track of and I posted my opinion elaborately each time.
Let's say it's absurd nuking a whole town is morally okay while pronounced features of the human body, the most natural thing in the world, is taboo. You can kill someone and loot the corpse as long as you don't get too see this dead person's bare skin. What a nice way of thinking.
By the way, mods are NOT a solution, because there are console players too.
