The graphics of Daggerfall

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 6:35 pm

Today I caught myself admiring the old school graphics of Daggerfall, a big reason for this was the change from snow and the added clutter on screen to the relatively more clean look of the new season.

However, with that then, one thing started to bother me. The graphical glitch involving the colour pink. I'm guessing this is a DosBox related issue?

Here's an example from my game:

Funny how the game probably looked better back in the day because of this. Anyone have an idea on the issue though?
I've seen others on youtube having the same problem so I don't know how fixable this is.

Don't think there any thing that would fix it. Happens to me a handful of time, whether it turn all windows from blue to red or use a snow texture on building when it is really in the summer at Hammerfell. Game usually fix/screw itself as time pasts.

I haven't noticed much of that actually, but that may be. I've seen the odd pink dots / sprites (?) here and there in some character faces and in other places. The pink buildings though are a standard occurence in the distant landscape that pops-in. The buildings regain their normal colour once they're loaded properly. I'm using the mod that increases the view distance which makes it easier to detect I guess, but it was still present on a standard installation.

I don't know, but I'm guessing this was not present when the game ran natively on dos? Also, I've googled this to no avail. A shame that the game looks worse today then, if it's an issue with dosbox

That glitch has always been around, as I recall. Especially the one where the windows turn red--very creepy! I always assumed it had something to do with the lighting engine messing up, but it's so minor that I don't think anyone ever cared. Either way, it doesn't have anything to do with DOSbox

Odd. Well the pink glitch is quite noticeable, however, yes, the game is perfectly playable.

Hmmm... I never had bugs like that... Strange...

Edit - Maybe its because I run under openGL?

Guess Colour-blindness does have some advantages after all (I can see lots of colours o the pic above, but nothing annoying at all.

The windows turning red - if I ever noticed - would be awesome! You can assume somehow a serial-killer was on the loos and you have to track him down. And shred him!
