The Graphics of Fallout

Post » Sat Aug 13, 2011 12:42 am

What do you want the next Fallout game's graphics to be like? Crysis? Or can you settle for something lower tier?

Honestly, I'm fine with the F3's and New Vegas' graphics as they are. But little things like reflection off the Pip-Boy screen would be pretty cool.

Graphics don't make the game, but terrible graphics can worsen an experiance. I think the next Fallout game will run on the new engine Bethesda has made for Skyrim, that's a pretty decent upgrade.

I'm hoping FO4 will be on the next gen consoles. That way the graphics can be pushed far beyond what we even see with Skyrim.

Most likely sense Skyrim is the last TES game on the 360 and PS3.

Hopefully, but the current gen is rumored to last until 2015. That's more than enough time to make another FO game, now that they have the engine done.

2015? Jeez, I didn't think it would be that long before they retired the consoles. Bummer, at least the Creation Engine is looking pretty good and after seeing the gamebryo in two Fallout games, well... You get the idea. It's time to upgrade. :)

I don't think so, they’re too big of a portion of gamer that the developers don't want to loose out on.

That's what the devs said I am pretty sure.

Money talks, and if there’s a chance to make allot I'm sure Game Developers will do it. Hell, anyone will do stuff to make allot of cash if a chance is given.

It's just rumor, obviously. We don't know for sure.

The Creation Engine does look good, but I think it's largely due to Bethesda's artists, more than the engine itself. On a technical level, it's held back by the platforms it's designed to run on.

Agreed. But....
I'm still holding in on their word, hopefully.

I can see that, the artists are using their talent to cover up or enhance the Creation's greatness.

Only more reason to get rid of the 360 and PS3. Really wouldn't effect me to get rid of them sense I have "converted" to the PC, but still they are holding back game series' graphic wise.

Sadly the market is the problem. With everyone who wants to play the games like TES and Fallout, but can't afford thousands of dollars to buy a gaming PC, are forcing companies to make the games for the consoles too. Mainly because as Arrow Slayer said, money. We all know that the PC population can't support a gaming company's needs like it did years ago sadly. Except maybe Blizzard. WoW kind of made them. I hate the game, I am more of a Starcraft and Diablo person but even those are good games. Blizzard sure knew how to make great games while still making them able to be played by most if not all PCs.

But yeah, back on topic... As soon as the current consoles retire, we should see a graphic improvement in many games, especially Fallout.

I don't the graphics are fine to me and I don't wana have to pay 300 bucks just to play fallout and I won't get to play all my other games unless ps4 runs ps3 games.

It's not just graphics that are being held back. More RAM, VRAM and processing power would allow them to do far more than just improve the graphics. For example, more NPCs on the screen at one time. It's not just about VRAM for rendering them, it's also having sufficient processing power to handle their AI. Things like cloth simulation becomes possible. Better physics. The next gen consoles will probably have DX11 (unless there's a DX12 by then), which adds stuff like tessellation, improved lighting, better optimization and other stuff.

I like Fallout's current graphics, I think they look quite good. New consoles can wait a few more years. The Creation engine would make Fallout look fantastic in my opinion I wouldn't mind seeing Bethesda take Fallout there.

I agree. We can only hope, but I guess it is how Microsoft and Sony decide to make the next gen consoles.

Hopefully the next Fallout will use the Creation Engine, and Bethesda's artists.

I really don't think there's any doubt about which engine FO4 is going to use. They didn't build the Creation Engine for Skyrim only to dump it afterwards. The fact that it has DX11 optimization built into the engine suggests that they made it looking forward, for future use.

Again I agree but nothing is set in stone. "Hopefully" should have been "most likely".

When the next Gen comes out the Devs heads are going to hurt. I'm sure with the new tech there going to have some headaches getting game on the consoles. They did when the 360 came out and still do on the ps3. Only if the game is on both consoles though.

I'm expecting Xbox 360 and PS3. That really doesn't stop them from a whole lot.

I'm expecting the graphics to be very similar to Skyrim, but with just a tad more detail. Definately the Creation Engine, and probally Bethesda's artists. I'm pretty sure Bethesda is making this one too, so that would be a check for the artists.

I wouldn't expect any more detail. They've optimized to the best of their abilities and pushed the 360 to it's limits for Skyrim.

I can understand the stress. Seems to me that Fallout and TES should be made for only the PC. With the GECK and Construction Sets, better graphics and all. Plus with Microsoft/Sony licensing and stuff, that ups the price on the games. $60 is not a biggie to me sense that is how every new game is priced these days, but it is to some people.

I believe Bethesda has acquired the ability to make/publish three Fallout games: Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Fallout 4. So yeah Fallout 4 is under Bethesda's control unless something comes up or the sell the franchise.

I disagree, they'd lose a large fanbase and profit if they became PC only.

They own the whole damn series, at first they aquired the rights to make three games then they bought the entire thing from Interplay.

Huh I thought it was only three games. I haven't been following their legal actions too closely.

As for the loss of fanbase, I said that a few posts back that consoles make up a large percent of their profits, it would make no sense for them to cut off consoles. I just said that it seems that Fallout should be a PC only game, which it was until 3. And only Blizzard could pull off a PC only fan base and still make huge profit.

They originally got the rights to make three games in 2003 and in 2004 they got the entire series (this is from memory, correct me if I'm wrong).

It was only one PC with the originals because the only systems out was the Gensis and the original Play Station (I have both and they probably couldn't run Angry Birds). But in modern times they can use better systems.

I didn't know they got Fallout that early.

But still this gen of consoles is closing. Maybe I'll be wrong and the new gen of consoles can keep up with PC graphics and such.
