The graphics of Skyrim

These graphics are surely going to be the best I have seen in a long time.

I've seen better and that was like 4 years ago.
I think graphics are mediocre (especially lighting, shaders and texture depth). I think aesthetics is amazing.

The shaders and textures are far outdated, due to the current console generation being far outdated. Doesn't really bother me though, because the game looks far better than Oblivion artistic wise and lacks that pretty pink sunshine feel and adds some grit.

It'll be fun as hell in any case.

There an upgrade from Oblivion, but certainly not the best I've ever seen. Still, there good enough for me.

Gameplay is what sells TES anyways. And the graphics are more than enough for me to have no doubt. Im just glad their not smooth and pasty looking like Oblivion.

If I was to be candidly honest, then No I don't think Skyrim graphics are awesome or the best I have ever seen BUT they are perfect for the setting and an Elderscroll game... I will definitely be playing this to death. Although graphics are important (to a certain extent) they are not everything. And certainly doesn't make a game.

Havn't seen alot of games have you OP :P

But ya they could be better ALOT better, but Beth isn't one of those devs that make graphics take up a good system just a few touch ups here and there..

Hopefully they code in DX11 features so modders will be able to activate them in the high res TPs that are just not implemented in vanilla

Gameplay might not be enough to attract new audience. The game needs visually amaze you right from the start; well, it doesn't actually need to amaze visually, but it sure helps on the way to make many more people interest.
Battlefield 3 is an example :liplick:

I find BF3's visuals boring and they do nothing for me in comparison to Skyrim.

@Seti For me when it comes to graphics it's more about aesthetics and being in another world. I don't really care for the gritty and realistic looking graphics like BF3 and Gears of War because there dull and boring. Yea it tends to be more on the realistic side, but there's no room for imaginative graphics if someone is striving for realism. But yes, Uncharted 2 is a beautiful game.

It won't be as big as a step that Oblivion took. I couldn't believe OB's graphics when I first saw them.

I agree. For a game of this size and scope the graphics are awesome. The clouds on the mountains pretty much do it for me lol

The graphics look very poor to me but then again the only screenshots we have are from a 5 year old piece of hardware.

The Witcher 2 is still the best looking RPG to date, but Skyrim doesn't look bad by any means. And I'm sure the PC version will look better.

From what I've heard, the 360 looks like OB maxed out on a pc. Not too sure about that since OB maxed out on my rig doesn't look amazing, but still not bad.

However, the console version of The Witcher 2 will not be the best looking RPG to date.

For graphics restricted to ancient console hardware, it looks great.

For 2011 tech, it doesn't look that impressive.

It looks better than Oblivion and I'm here for the gameplay anyway, so it doesn't bother me :)

well maxed out would have 8xAA which isn't goin to happen and the SS already prove how short the draw distances are

The graphics are pretty bad and certainly not competitive for a modern game, but that's not a deal-breaking issue for me. It's the no spell making and regenerative health coupled with quest markers as the icing on the cake that are the deal breakers for me.

Graphics are good enough, i like them. Im glad the graphics are over the top too, because then it would be unstable on a lot of rigs.

I think the Witcher 2 on max settings is the best I have ever seen a RPG look. Mind you it was in no way the same scope as Skyrim. Great game though and one I recommend for everyone that loves true RPGs. Skyrim's graphics are just solid, not great, but not Duke Nukem Forever either(hideos). After mod nation gets a hold of the creation kit the game will look incredible...

Well said. The technology of Skyrim isn't half as impressive as what that technology is being used to display.

Art style, design, and the subject matter (themes/setting) are more important to me than graphical superiority, and Skyrim is impressive on all counts. It's why some older, much less graphically sophisticated games can look far better than newer, more technically impressive ones (random example: FF9 vs. DA2).

On the positive side, Skyrim's still quite impressive on a purely technical level, so the combination is a winning one as far as I'm concerned, and I agree with the OP. :)
