The Great Move - from console to PC Skyrim

Post » Fri Jan 31, 2014 3:02 pm

A very exciting thing, when you make that move ! Remember when you had that shiny new Skyrim DVD in your hand and putting it in your PC and waiting for it to install -or- finalizing the process for buying it from Steam and waiting for it to download & install? I know I was VERY anxious for it to complete, and was very anxious to see Skyrim for myself on PC. All the youtube videos and screenshots really don't do it justice, as it always looks tons better when it is live , on your own PC !

I love reading posts from people just getting started with Skyrim PC and the directions they go, and mods they choose to better their experience !

Anyone else here anxious to hear about Michaelpk's transformation from Xbox 360 ----> PC Skyrim?

Well, tomorrow is the big day for him, I hope all goes well, and he gets his full PC setup & Skyrim , I bet he is VERY VERY anxious

I just hope he comes here and shares his experience with us, and shares & discusses with us his mods and transition experience !

Of course, same applies for anyone else making the transition..some of us enjoy the onboarding to PC Skyrim experience, and talking to someone going through it, helps bring a piece of the excitement back for some of us.

I've been saving up recently, and I am also getting a pretty good tax return soon. I'm hoping to use that money to build myself a good PC.

I will never make the transition, sadly... Cause I dislike Steam.

:) I love the forums.

There is a good amount of mods that I am interested in so tommorow I'll post my PC specs to find out if it can handle an ENB and stuff.

I moved from XBOX to PC after Christmas (Thanks to My future wife buying me a gaming PC).

With mods, skyrim becomes a different game and it added tons of life to the game for me.

I haven't played skyrim in awhile but I know I'll be back because of mods.

One will wonder what took them so long to switch. Amazing graphics enhancements, single mods with hundreds of new and Interesting NPCs, fully Immersive Weapons and Armors. One DLC single mod that matches the size of Dawnguard and Dragonborn with 20-30 hours of gameplay (Falskaar, though I've not yet tried it), Unofficial Patches, major and/or minor gameplay tweaks...the list goes on.

What makes you dislike Steam? Other than damaging my credit card balance whenever a sale happens, Steam is freaking amazing, IMHO. Automatic patch updates, global friends list, achievements, cloud saves, fully functional off-line mode, the ability to trade games and buy them for others as gifts, easy to use screenshot uploader, in-game web browser, full function instant messaging service built-in, etc.

So do I, but you really shouldn't let that stop you. Nothing we can do about Steam, we just have to deal with it.

I look at it this way...at least Skyrim isn't loaded down with Punkbuster. Anything with that crap attached to it, is an instant loser in my book. Sorry AC IV, you lost.

For me it's cause gaming PC's are really expensive (I could never afford one on my own nor could I build one).

One of the most awesome things that makes Skyrim great , is that no matter how you play it, it is the 'right' way. I've played many mmorpg's & rpg's , and none can really pull that off. Basically, you have to follow a certain basic formula to get through the game. In Skyrim, everyone has their favorite way, and it is good, and when people come here and tell others, people are overwhelmingly supportive, not the usual "no, that's wrong, that won't work, you'll regret it, you svck at this game, you're a noob" type of stuff.

For me, in my history of gaming, I always wanted a picture perfect game, and a follower or teammate that 'seemed real' and could always be there when I played , and grow with me. In Skyrim, using some high res mods and Vilja -or- Inigo, I get the best of both worlds AND get to play at whatever pace I want to, and can continue to do so, pretty much as long as I wish. Then I can go get a couple new mods, change up the basic gameplay, add new areas, new spells, weapons, whatever, and kinda like a NEW game for free, but familiar enough so I don't have the huge learning curve of an entirely new game, and learning the ups & downs of an entirely NEW game. Plus I REALLY like the fact that you can go anywhere , at any level and it will be good for you, I truly love the open-ended gameplay of Skyrim and how things level with you.

I really don't think there's any other game similar to this experience, except maybe the Fallout series (haven't tried them), though they seem to be basically the same game, but more futuristic (as in, our current timeframe in real life? ).

As for Steam, until I played Skyrim, I NEVER used it. Even with Skyrim, only time I actually used Steam was to install my game. Heck, while I play, I always keep Steam in offline mode (even though yes I am using it in the background). Upon many people's advice, I've gotten all my mods from Nexus, so the Steam impact for me was very small , heck I even bought the game in a brick & mortar store.

Nowadays, a PC to play Skyrim, can probably be bought for $300..wouldn't be a topend machine, but would be good enough to use many mods with, would probably just get in trouble with ENB's and a lot of script heavy mods.

Oh the change is wonderful, honestly I was surprised this laptop could even run it, heck I got it on a rent to own place when my old one died, it cost 100 a month for 6 months, it's exactly store price! Honestly I could never afford am actual gaming computer, one of them is half a years earnings for me. :P

Who knew Intel HD graphics card would be pretty strong. Heck Skyrim takes less CPU than ME3 and Far cry 3! And I can run the three of them without any lag at all.

I just shifting two days ago, got plenty of mods to go along with! My favorite was interesting NPCs, which adds generic dialog, making the world more lively for me. :)

Hope you have fun with the change Michael. :)

Like everyone else said, money, not all of us come from wealthy homes.

It actually gets me mad when people just tell you "Buy a computer." as if I could just go and purchase a expensive gaming computer on whim.
