This is my first Fan Fic, I don't know if this is similar to some of the fan fics I've read before about Oblivion but heres a shot.


This is a story of a great vault system, unlike any other, there is not one stand alone vault, a duplicate of all the others, but instead it is a Pentagon setup, with 5 vaults all sealed and a common area in between all of them spanning an area of 5 acres. These Vaults are all sequentially numbered from Vault 122, up to Vault 126, every couple days I will post a description of the purpose of each vault as well as some of the details of their history over 250 years, from the colonization of them in 2077 to their eventual opening to the outside world in the year 2327.

So I will now give you the details of Vault 122


Vault 122

One Overseer
Inhabitants - 2000, Male. Female ratio is 50/50 (All 5 vaults have the capacity for 2000 people)
Age of original inhabitants - 18 - 45
Weapons - No manufactured weapons
Screening - All inhabitants are free of genetic faults and hereditary disease, all are caucasian with no emphasis on religion or political beliefs.

Conditions - The inhabitants of this vault will be given enough supplies and hydroponic systems to sustain a population of exactly 2000, and no birth control methods will be given to the inhabitants. The people in the vault will be given no stressful tasks to perform and all support systems will be handled by computer, and medical needs will be performed by automated robotic systems performed by a Mr. Gutsy robot named Doc Rob, the only duties the inhabitants will have is the production of their food, they will have hydroponic systems and a breeding population of cattle, chicks, and pigs as well as a fishery. Now the point of this project will simply be to see how a population of people will deal with an uncontrolled growth in population, whether they will set a limit on the age of inhabitants because they are no longer able to contribute to society and whether they would execute them, allow the person or even condition them to commit suicide at a certain age. Perhaps they will cast some of the inhabitants out of the vault and into the common area to fend for themselves, another result may be in the founding of ruling factions which may overtime even enslave people of certain religious or political beliefs, and cast out some of their members, or even kill them in raids. Perhaps a faction of cannibals will form in the bowels of the vault and pick off others to feed off of, seeing them as being nothing but a renewable food source.

This vault will be able to be opened at anytime chosen by the Overseer, or whomever may gain control of the computer system.

Tomorrow I will post the part of the story of Vault 122, as well as a basic description of Vault 123....

Subject - First days

- Nightmare, that is the only word I can say to summarize what has happened. Those god damned Reds did it, they dropped a nuclear payload on the United States, hundreds of years of progress, of life and a culture have been wiped from the history books. Nothing from the past [censored] matters anymore, millions are dead, if not billions, nobody knows the extent of the war, entire cities have been wiped out, nations perhaps. Great Britain, France, Australia, nobody knows, all I can say is this, I hope every [censored]in Red is dust. These first days have been hell, the panic caused by a nuclear conflict drove people to horrible acts, many were killed outside the entrance of this vault, most were people simply trying to save themselves and their families. However Vault-Tec made it very clear that only those designated for entry would enter. Our security force was dispatched to the entrance of the vault, some to check identifications, but most to hold back the crowds of people who had learned this Vault's location. This security force was not the issue, it was the violence of those trying to get in, topped only by the cold and effective intervention by Sentry bots and Mr. Gutsy robots which were commissioned to this vault. Close to 100 people were killed by these robots, and more by the crowd attempting to get in, many even in-fighting amongst each other. The first 1400 or so people designated to enter the Vault were all checked and confirmed until people begun to realise where this crowd of people and cars were going. Almost everyone designated to get into the the vault did, some died outside the vault some due to gunfire from the rioters and when that began more died when a panic struck and some were trampled by a crowd in fear. Once the violence broke out we allowed people to come in the main vault door and once we believed all of the remaining designates were in we shut the door. The checking of Identifications went on at a secured door inside the vault, in total we had allowed 1948 to enter, of these 1896 were designates. Those who entered without clearance have been quarantined until the Overseer can make a decision on what to do, I examined all of these people and recommended that they be allowed to stay considering we did not reach our capacity of 2000 due to deaths outside. Also the fact that these 52 people with exception of injury were healthy and posed no threat to the people of Vault 122. These vaults were designed and built to save the people of the United States, I guess it's time we improvise a little and save some off paper. Well these days have been hard, I've been very busy with the injuries that have occurred in the panic of October 23rd and am now going to get some well deserved rest, the last 28 straight hours in surgery are enough for me, everyone is now stable, I'll leave their care in the hands of Burke and Ritchie.


Subject - Quarantine wiped....

- I can't believe what has happened, the 52 people who were quarantined in a make-shift living area have all been executed. Is there anything to do? has the Overseer gone mad? does he know something that I don't? I just don't know. Fifty two people were lead to their death a little over an hour ago, all healthy, all innocent, there is no law, there is no United States, only the remnants of Vault-Tec and their [censored] mandate. Fighting all rational reasoning upon hearing of this I immediately questioned the Overseer about his decision, he simply said "They were not designated to be in this Vault and pose a threat to our population, it may be hard to understand but it needed to be done." These people were healthy, they had no communicable diseases, the worst of the bunch had Angina, but upon him saying this I guess a harsh realisation has come to pass. These people were not an immediate threat, but hereditary disease was present in most, like most people, but of those I've spoken to who were designates little to no hereditary disease was present, I hate to say this but these people were a threat to future generations, future generations who sadly may be raised in this Vault.

Now the thing that disturbs me most about these killings in the manner in which it was done. The Overseer himself walked into their living quarters and congradulated them all on being residents of Vault 122, and told them that Security would lead them to their new quarters. People were lead out 12 at a time by security and entered a corridor, door shut behind them and another opened and they were lead into the room only to have sentry bots roll in behind them and kill them with their miniguns. Once this was done another group was lead to this room, the door opened, and the sentry bots again follow to kill them, the harshest thing about this was that each successive group would see their fates. Bloody mangled bodies of their peers piled up would be the last sight they would experience, one of fear and a horrifying realisation that they were next. This was kept quiet only select members of security, myself and the Overseer were aware of their fates, I only learned of this because of my role in their care, infact the residents of this vault never knew that anyone but designates were allowed in. When people were checked they were simply told where to go, all designates to their living quarters and lead there by security, those who were not designates simply heard "Alrighty folks, follow officer Steen for your locations". A coverup of grand proportions, which will be kept quiet, not by the implied but not verbally stated threat of death, but to prevent full blown panic from the dwellers of this vault, if it would lead to violent unrest only more violence would ensue, the guards and bots are armed, the dwellers are not.

Subject - Observations in the new year

- So, the bombs have dropped, and months have gone by, its January first, and walking through these cold steel coridors I've heard a resident making a joke about making a new year's resolution, and how picking up on the yard work is now luckily out of the picture. There was no laughter, only blank and angry stares. This is pretty much the feeling that lingers in this vault, these people have lost so much, everything they've worked for in their entire lives. In fact some have lost more than a home, possessions and loved ones, some seem to have lost hope. I guess that it didn't help that with the panic of nuclear attact being imminent some of the designated vault inhabitants were trampled on the way in. 8 suffering injury and 3 of those later succumbing to their injuries in my own clinic, and another 2 dieing outside of the vault entrance, one of which a young child. So now that things have had time to sink in, questions have begun to arise. We have a population of good people in this vault, most remain friendly and social considering all that they've gone through, I've seen many of them in my clinic for anything from minor cuts and scraqes up to some early major injuries. The worst of which actually being my assistant RN. Burke who was the victim of a faulty Mr. Gutsy robot named "Ritchie" but who is now nicknamed "Buzz" by the citizens of Vault 122.

Now the biggest question that has been circulating is this, why would a strong healthy population of people who are aged between 18 and 45 (with exception of children of course) numbering a total population of 1893, be placed into a vault with amenities, food, and the resources to produce food and power for 2000, yet no form of birth control has been placed in this Vault? We have a very well stocked medical facility built to handle any emergency, any sickness and almost any disease but why not something as simple as birth control pills? forms of injectable birth control or even something as simple as condems? Speculation amongst the people has been that perhaps we are in an area not as heavily affected by the war and the vault door is to be opened sooner rather than later. But even in this case why would Vault-Tec want pregnant women, infants and young children wandering the wastes? it simply doesn't make sense, I've questioned the Overseer about this issue but he simply replies "I'm sorry I can't share any information about the date the vault is to be opened according to my mandate from Vault-Tec". This is the only answer I get out of him, it seems to be programmed into him, but I guess when you're an executive with one of the largest and most powerful corporations in the world for a period of over two decades you take your job very seriously, seriously enough to kill dozens of innocents. All I can say is this, if that vault door opens too soon there will be a population of people burdened by young children who won't stand a chance in the aftermath of a nuclear war. If it opens too late we are facing imminent over-population, widespread sickness and disease that we are not equipped to handle, or worse yet violence may prevail in an air of desperation. The thing that worries most is that with an issue such as this, will there ever be a good time to open the door of this vault? After learning of the slaughter of 52 people I know now that Vault-Tec has some type of alterior motives to the development of these vaults, but what that is, I don't know and I doubt we'll be prepared once we do. I personally will do my best to put an end to anymore of these twisted actions that the Overseer may take, but even if they are known, will I ever have the resources to actually do something about it?

2000 Inhabitants, 1000 Male, 1000 Female
Ages - Infants - 65 years of age

Overseer - Artemis Kilpatrick, a Vault-Tec employed Doctor and former Political Advisor, 38 years of age, a very enthusiastic and ambitious man with two children, both daughters aged 12 and 9, divorced and heard commenting upon entering the vault "well on the bright side, I won't have to pay that [censored]'s allimony hahaha".

Conditions - All inhabitants will be expected to complete roles according to their aptitudes, and compensated for this work with work credits which can be redeemed for upgrades to living arrangements and creature comforts, as well as other priveleges. Food supplies will be produced in an area of the vault created out of sheer brilliance, Vault-Tec has created a simulated environment ideal for the production of crops of all varieties, from corn, potatoes, grains and a variety of other fruits and vegetables. The area spans about 1 acre in the underground vault and the natural plants and some trees will not only help with natural air filtration but also grant the dwellers of this vault with an escape from a cold harsh reality as well as encourage the workers of this small patch of land to enjoy their work.

Production of Food - The method in which this has been made possible was the development of a chemical which with the use of steroids and other genomes will quite literally cause the plants to require minimal nutrients from the soil in which they grow, rather it will be procured from the chem itself. This chemical was given to Vault-Tec as well as the American government by West Tek a private corporation, it began with the Pan-Immunity Virion Project (PVP) to develop a way to counteract Chinese biological agents, this was originally intended to make American troops immune to any type of biological weapon that the Chinese may use against them. This PVP was synthesized by Vault-Tec into a form which would be used both for the treatment of hereditary disease and infection as well as an innoculation against virus' which the dwellers may encounter outside the vaults once the doors are opened. This PVP was also developed into a strain which would boost the growth of natural vegetation as well as to act as a fertilizer.

Security - A security detail of top Vault-Tec personnel was commissioned to administer security in Vault 123, as well as a detail of Mr. Gutsy Robots, Protectrons and Sentry Bots. All security personnel will be armed with a Police Baton, and a 10mm side arm, in the armoury there will also be 10 Combat Shotguns, and 10 Assault Rifles along with a supply of ammunition in case of any security breach of the vault.

- As ordered security personnel has obtained our cargo from the initial entrees of the vault, these people hand picked by myself for our project. We received the PVP strain from West Tek for as stated the development of our agricultural program, this will be it's primary purpose however Vault-Tec has charged us to continue in the research of the PVP being applied to humans. Our four test subjects are all without child or spouse and hence will result in little questions being asked. Of the four 3 were completely unknown to the other dwellers of this vault, a 4th was known to be a designate by some of those from the nearby community of Dowling however we have informed these people that Michael Madison did not enter the vault due to reasons unknown.

- Our doctors have injected subjects 001 and 002 with a small dose of PVP, and observations continue, the subjects have been told that they are part of a study to prevent hereditary disease, both subjects have a history of heart disease and have themselves developed a heart murmur. The subjects are more than happy to be able to assist in this study, being told that they are to remain in seclusion for the first 6 weeks of the study in order to keep them under close observation by our doctors incase any complications may arise.

- Subjects 003 and 004 have been injected with a 25cc dose of a modified PVP, this strain like the PVP has been designed to force evolution in it's subject but has also been infused with the military drug known only as "Psycho", the goal of this is to create a soldier with acute senses, strength, immunity to disease and radiation as well as a natural inclination for combat both armed and unarmed, the addition of the drug psycho will in effect lower the intelligence of the subject, but we are looking for a soldier to take orders, not make decisions. The subjects have shown some resistance to the present situation, however they have been kept cooperative and if any serious resistance is given we are prepared to restrain them and begin conditioning.

- Subject 005, in the designation of this subject a major oversight by Vault-Tec was made, upon speaking with the subject about the study which was intended for him he immediately refused, stating that he was formerly contracted by West Tek, he knew of PVP and refused to receive any dosage, stating he didn't want to "end up a [censored] lab rat", I did my best to reason with him, however he would not hear any of my reasoning and attempted to exit the lab by force. The subject struck me when I attempted to calm him, I ordered security to subdue him, he incurred injury at the hands of security, he has since been treated and placed in restraints, the first injections of PVP are intended for this evening as well to immediately begin conditioning.

Oooo, some forced testing here.

Exellent! I really did feel like i was in the dark underground of a derelict vault, with my only light being the flicker of a green raster display, cowering over it reading logs and entries from before my time..

I think a good story is one that you can picture in your mind, so yours was a success!

Thankyou for sending me this via PM, unfortunatly I have never wrote in the roleplay format before so I would'nt be a very intresting addition to this story, though I will add it looks extremely well thought out and organised, good work!

The only thing I'd like donated would be characters for me to work with, simple info on them and thats all, not any content for the story itself, I like being given bare bones and then turn it into an indepth character.

This here is a good fanfic, and I'm not easy to impress with these at all.

- Considering the situation I cannot even believe that I'm saying this, millions have died, the world is shattered and we live in an environment created to make life as easy as possible for the survivors, and innocents have been slaughtered and the major issue I'm dealing with is so simple, birth control. Something so simple may lead to the downfall of this population, and now that some pregnancies have occurred these questions have begun to arrise. I have spoken to the Overseer about this and he simply states that we have to work with what we have, I just find it ridiculous that we could have the medical supplies, equipment and know how to deal with any medical situation and even pediatric care for infants, yet no method of birth control. There is no way that Vault-Tec could have made such an oversight and this leads me to worry, what if this vault was not designed to save a population, but rather to put it under strain and pressure, because that is what is in store. Before I go on further about this however I will need to find some confirmation of my suspicions, perhaps if I speak with Constable Holmes he may have some information for me, he confided in me about the execution of the people in quarantine, I just hope that his moral compass will overcome any oathe or loyalty that he may have to Vault-Tec and their mandate.

- I once again requested an audience with the Overseer to address several issues which I believe needed to be addressed, however things did not go as I had planned. First off I requested permission to perform vascectomy operations on males who request it, partly for their own needs for those who are at an age that they do not wish to have anymore or any children at all, as well as a basic form of population control. He responded stating "For all we know under 1% of the population of the United States has survived the initial blasts of this nuclear strike, and even more are likely to succumb to other factors. Limiting the ability of our populace to procreate in a situation such as this is simply sick, and if someone wants to jeopardise the human race for their own selfishness I have no interest in hearing it.", this can be understood of course, but a more pressing matter is at hand, vault over population. When I stated this fact to the Overseer I simply stated that this vault is designed to handle a population of 2000 people, and if children are to be born and no form of regulation is placed on controlling the pregnancy rate, within a year we could have seriously strained food stocks, our medical personnel could not possibly keep up and in turn we may have some very serious strains on this small and volatile population which may risk the lives of hundreds.

This was the last straw, the Overseer screamed "Listen to me Doctor, this issue is not your concern! we have a mandate to uphold and we do not need you here to dictate how we will run the country before it even has human feet step upon it. You have your [censored] job now do it! do not pry into my business, asking too many questions will get you no where but in the maintenance department, mind your own and get back to work Doctor, that is all. Now it has become clear, I need to find out what is happening in this vault, the Overseer who is charged with seeing that the safety and success of this Vault is kept in check is turning a blind eye to all out disaster, I don't know if it is stress, arrogance, ignorance or something worse that is causing this appauling oversight. There is a current population of 1896 people in this vault, 184 of which are now pregnant and at different however relatively close stages of pregnancy due to the short time we've been in this vault. Once these children are born we will have a population of 2080, over the intended population of this vault before the first year of our entry, and as time goes on the nutritional needs of these children will only grow over time, just as the population will, we are looking at tremendous strain on this vault.

Subject - Constable Holmes

- After having an unsuccessful meeting with the Overseer I have decided to speak to Constable Holmes about anything that he might know about the current situation, we've decided to meet in a rather unused common area to avoid any attention. I asked him what he knew about the instructions that may have been given to the Overseer or to any security personnel and he simply stated that things aren't right, he isn't sure whether it is the orders that have been given or if the Overseer has decided to enact his own personal agenda but that things may get very bad quite quickly. I asked him for more details and he said only this "Doc, we have a system designed to handle 2000 people, and no form of population control, to be honest its looking like they're purposely overpopulating this vault, and for what reason? it looks like just to see what will happen, its sick." My response to this was not exactly hard to guess, why the [censored] wouldn't security inform us of this and help us do something about it, his answer, fear. We have all seen the Sentry Bots, Mr Gutsy bots and Protectrons receiving orders from security personnel, but only basic orders which have been approved by Vault-Tec and the Overseer. The Overseer has over all control of all computer and robotic systems through his Pipboy, if he chose to he could have the bots turn on anyone he chooses. Thats how they were enabled to execute the 52 people who came in without designation, even if security turned on the Overseer and the bots, even one Sentry Bot would be capable of killing the entire security team in full armour. Holmes said that the dwellers of this vault are on their own to find a solution, the Overseer's duty is to record the findings and keep a small group of Vault-Tec's employees and any other useful people in safety and that I'm one of them along with security.

- It is clear now what I must do, I need to get my way into the Overseer's files and see what type of logs he has been keeping as well as any other information he might have on Vault-Tec's agenda. Until then I need to do whatever I can to help the people of this vault, I can't tell them what I know, it would cause a full blown panic, and indefinately lead to nothing but further violence, and more than likely my own death, and all without proper confirmation. Now the question just remains how....

God dangit! A cliffhanger. Good as always.

Subject - Vault-Tec project

- Now that the bombs have dropped and the world has become irradiated it is time for humanity to adapt, or at least that is what Vault-Tec believes we may be able to do. Prior to the blasts this vault was stocked with depleted uranium rods formerly used in power generation. With this we will begin tests on a small amount of subjects in order to see the threshold of radiation which a human can be exposed to. Over time we will undoubtedly have some failures but that is what we shall learn from. We will split the population of this vault into 4 groups, one of which will be exposed to full on radiation, we will see how long these people will be able to last in this environment. The second will be exposed to a contant rate of radiation, a very low rate but it will always be present, a third will be introduced to radiation but will be given supplies of Rad-X and RadAway. Finally the Fourth will be introduced to a very low level of radiation, and this amount will extremely slowly be increased over generations.

Our ultimate goal is to create a human race which will be able to withstand the radiation present in the outside world with no damage to their own personal health, though many will be lost in this study, but if even 1 or 2 bloodlines can be created that can withstand radiation, perhaps they may be able to procreate with whatever humans may still be living on the surface or in shelters and pass on this radiation resistance to others.

Groups

Group A - This group will be the one exposed to extreme radiation immediately, considering they are all going to perish, and the data we receive is going to be based on only the time in which this will take, we have chosen to only expose 100 people to this scenario.

Group B - This group will be composed of 200 people, we expect radiation sickness to affect the dwellers of this area, again, this will mostly be used just to gather data on the deterioration of their condition.

Group C - This group will be composed of 500 people, the data we can gain from the treatment of radiation will be key in this study as well as the conditions of different groups within this 500 people, we have devoted more of our human assets to this group considering that this data will likely be the most invaluable.

Group D - This group will be composed of 1200 people, they will be our long time test subjects, and ultimately we hope their future generations will be the radiation adapted humans which will assist in the repopulation of the United States, they will never be made known of any radiation presence and all Geiger meters have been removed.

Progress, Group A

- Of the 100 inhabitants more than half have succumbed to the radiation, the rest are near the brink of death and are extremely ill, we have decided that the 10 healthiest of this group will be treated with RadAway by our team in radiation suits as well as Rad-X to see the drug's effects on the subjects after long time and extreme exposure to radiation.

Group B

- All of the inhabitants of this area have begun to show the beginning signs of radiation sickness, nothing extreme, just simply nausea thus far and weakness.

Group C

- This group has had very few of the group encounter the signs of mild radiation sickness, however they have been treated with RadAway, explained to them as just being nutritional supplements, and are now in good condition.

Group D

- Considering the extremely low of radiation they are being exposed to, no subjects have had any side effects in any shape or form, they are unchanged.

Are we allowed to add our own stuff? Great stuff though! Idea: Create a vault with 2 overseers.

I'm taking character submissions but I'm pretty sure I'll be doing the writing for most if not all of the content, at most I MIGHT take on a second writer for one of the 5 vaults, but it will have to be a very devoted and skilled fan fic writer. As for a vault with 2 Overseer's, lets just say the minds of Vault-Tec can have far crueler intentions than a 2 way power struggle =)

I mean if you're lookin for a second please take me for consideration.... Maybe a vault that gets in contact with the Enclave?

These experiments have begun in 2077 when the bombs drop, the Enclave doesn't yet exist, infact the dwellers of these vaults have no idea if anyone has survived nuclear war.

Talk about a major case of running sentences. Cut em in half, at least. Read it outloud; when you edit your work.
