i just wanted to know what started it who won and what was the effect and who was fighting and did it effect the entire world

The "Great War" really only lasted about 2 hours, on October 23, 2077. Basically China and U.S.A were at war, somebody nuked somebody, so everybody
nuked everybody. It made the tectonic plates shift, mountain ranges appeared out of the ground, and that was pretty much the end of
civillization. So no one won the war, yes it effected the entire world, and it started the setting of all the Fallout games.

What started it: A rush for the last drop of oil. The US had it and refused to share. China wasnt a big fan of that idea and invaded Alaska. Noone's sure who launched the first nuke - and it doesnt really matter either.

Who Won: The Cockroaches. Nobody every truly "Wins" in war; in the great war this was taken to even further extremes. You can assume any pre war civilian government, at any level (local, state, federal, supernational), no longer exists. Anywhere.

The entire world was effected. Europe and the middle east had been slugging it out long before the US and China went at it, and the fallout and other nuclear damage is assumed to have spread worldwide, not to mention the fall of international commerce.

Except the EU doesnt exist in Fallout.... And the EC was knocked out by a long war with the middle east long before the Great war.

(also, its not "England" - Thats like saying California is the USA. the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the name of the country - heck, the nukes are kept in Scotland! Sorry, I've clearly been spending too much time with Scottish folk)

If I remember my Fallout 2 correctly, when the "Chosen One" was talking with President Richardson, he makes the comment that "We were winning too, then those damn Reds launched everything they had at us".

So if my memory serves me correctly, then it was the PRC that started the nuke war.

Actually, many people have won many wars. In fact, many societies have been rocketted forward in wealth, quality of life, and advancement by the winning of a war.

However, nobody truly wins in Nuclear war.

Potential Events of the Great War:

A nuclear exchange between the PRC and the USA occurs when US Troops are within a few miles of Beijing.

Following the loss of the West Coast, an errant B-36 belonging to the US Strategic Air Command accidentally violates Soviet airspace, and is shot down.

The USSR feeling that this may be a first strike attempt by the US, launches against the United States.

Royal Air Force Station Husum(West Germany) detects the launch of Soviet Union against, the United States. The UK fearing that the Warsaw Pact might come charging through the Fulda, launches against the Warsaw Pact members.

The Warsaw Pact goes to war against the disorganized European Commonwealth, though when the Berlin Brigade is overrun the United States launches against the Warsaw Pact.

IRA miniature nuclear bombs explode at the British Parliament, Ministry of Defense & No.10 Downing Street, effectively derailing the British war effort.

A border incident between Nationalist Spain and France, forces a nuclear exchange and subsequently brings about a European nuclear exchange.

Peronists from Argentina force a nuclear strike against the Chilean Junta. The rest of the continent is plunged into nuclear exchanges between Marxists and Anti-Marxists.

Nuclear incidents between Colonial Governments and Marxist rebels engulf the African Continent.

The British Dominion of India, and Communist China become embroiled in a nuclear incident.

Israel launches a pre-emptive strike against Saudi Arabia, kicking off a nuclear war between Israel and the Muslim states.

Australia as a member of ANZUS strikes against the PRC.

Some dudes got angry at each other so they decided to **** **** up.

In the fallout universe the only known nuclear powers are the US,China,Soviet Union, and the European Commonwealth.
