The Greatest Game Ever Made

Post » Mon Jul 28, 2014 2:37 pm

Hi everybody. I would just like to congratulate Bethesda for making what I believe, is the greatest game ever- Skyrim V The Elder Scrolls. I am currently at level 33 and there is so much more to do. I love Skyrim so much I bought the Skyrim guide which is also a BEAUTIFUL book.

I love Skyrim too. It's in my Top 10 for sure, but I wouldn't say it's the greatest. There is no such thing as 'greatest', except in a person's mind.

Greatest game ever... No.
But it is the game I've played more than every other game I've played... combined...
and it is the most enjoyable game I've ever played.

Try Fallout New Vegas but it is not quite so shinny.

You're putting a smile on my face with the joy you're writing with. :D Thanks!

Just like you I play primarily on the PS3. I recommend Dark Souls 2(a recent sequel of Demon's Souls). I have to say that I enjoyed the game just as much as I enjoyed Oblivion(the sequel of Skyrim). It's a long time ago since I enjoyed a game that much. Then I recommend Dragon's Dogma. A brilliant game. And a huge succes in japan. Don't let the poor character graphics scare you off. The game is awesome.
Kingdoms of Amalur is also huge. It only made the mistake of releasing itself close to the release of the hyping game Skyrim.

EDIT: Sorry, it's Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisem. The improved and more smoothened version of Dragon's Dogma. What people complained about the most in Vanilla DD has been fixed in Dark Arisen.

Fallout 3 GOTY, that should keep you going for a while. When it came out, 'Oblivion with guns' was used as an insult. I'd call that a compliment instead.

Oh, yeah manners and all: it's http://images.uesp.net/c/c4/Fishystick.jpg.

Skyrim is in my "Top three" favorite games. But it is not my favorite game of all time.

Note that I used the word favorite. Like Renee, I am allergic to the misuse of competitive terms like "better" when applied to entertainment. There is no "better" in the arts.

I really want to stress that especially in gaming, quality is completely subjective except in extreme cases. I can say that Ride to Hell Retribution is a bad game, I can say that Half Life 2 is a good game. There's very few games outside of Bethesdas lineup that I am truly enthralled with, and they mostly have some of the same qualities, albeit in quite different packages. There are people who like to be told a story like in Baldurs Gate or Planescape Torment, I like to kick down the fence thats keeping me inside the story and run around the world to my hearts content.

As for Skyrim, its pretty up there. I think my heart will always be in the Capital Wasteland, ive spent more time wandering the beautiful destruction than any other game, Bethesda or not. Right now I am spending time in the wonderfully strange world of Vvardenfel, and I wish I could travel there and spend the rest of my life chatting up the Telvanni mage lords.

You should give Skyrim a good shake though before checking out some other worlds. The North is probably the biggest game world Bethesda has made, and it is bursting with content. You can play these games for thousands of hours across many years and still be discovering new things hidden away somewhere off the beaten path. I'll always come back to Skyrim, as I will always come back to every Bethesda game.

Give the previous installments a try, Morrowind and Oblivion. It's an obvious downgrade, graphically speaking, but still wonderful games nonetheless. A lot to learn and explore in the previous TES games.

Also, if you haven't yet, I highly recommend you give Fallout 3 a try. Definitely sits comfortably in my top three all-time favorite games.

I bought and installed Morrowind a month ago...wasn't very enjoyable honestly. It was quite difficult and just a bother to play. No dialogue, snail walking, and bad journal layout discouraged me from continuing. I've put in about almost 7 hours into it and I can't push further than that :\

At least it actually looks like a journal.
Skyrim's "journal" is like some kind of weird phone app.

Well you have to remember the abilities the systems had when the game was released. I played it on the original Xbox and there were no Oblivion or Skyrim to compare it to. It was a good solid game for it's time and a lot of people are very nostalgic towards it because it was their first experience with TES due to it being the first installment to ever hit a console, plus it was also many people's first RPG or open world game.
