The Greatest Gift Bethesda Can Give!

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 4:49 am

I like this idea, but here's how I see it playing out for me:

"Oh, wow! I won! This is really cool! I get to check out Bethesda's offices, and spend a whole day... away from Skyrim..."

"Eh... I'd rather just play Skyrim"

Unless of course they let you play the Skyrim Expansion they are developing.

I've always had a fantasy about touring Bethesda's studios. I live like 30 minutes away from Bethesda, Maryland. I rarely ever go down that direction though. One of these days I'll DO IT! I'll at least figure out where they're located and see what I can see.

On topic of the thread: I don't have any opinion. Would be great if all that stuff happened, but I'm not gettin my hopes up.

I've already posted this in The Elder Scrolls Discussions on Facebook, but I would like to see how it fares here.

First I was thinking of extra content that may be given with a Collectors Edition of the game and then after a few posts it hit me! What if instead of a Collectors Edition of the game with possibly an art book, sound track cd, figurine or some form of DLC that you can only get with the purchase of a Collectors Edition, how about a code? A code for what you say? A code that enters you in a contest to be one of lets just say 10 people who get the extraordinary privilege of a tour of Bethesda Game Studios and while there, say at the end of the tour, there is a raffle for one of the lucky 10 people to win 1 of everything made of The Elder Scrolls series possibly including all the games, figurines, sound track cd's, art books etc...and a one of a kind hand drawn Skyrim poster of some kind autographed by the entire Bethesda Skyrim team?

Now before anyone says stupid idea or never going to happen, lets not forget the people who made Major League Baseball 2K10 just had a contest last year where the winner won $1,000,000.00 . Now I'm not a genius but I do know flying 10 people to any destination in the world and back plus say dinner, motel for a night and what ever the raffle winner may take home will not even come close to $1,000,000.00. I personally think that it is time the consumers of not only the greatest RPG gaming series ever, but the consumers of the entire gaming industry itself should be given a chance at something I know most would consider selling family members off for...LOL

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome
PS: Don't tell her...but I'd sell my wife in a heart beat for this...LMAO

I think best gift would be complete the game and release way befoure 11 11 11 lol release it on 1 1 11 would have been better but It coul dgo also 3 2 11 lol...

So let me get this right...

Soooooo after paying a larger amount of money for the game, and instead of getting wonderful and unique special, bonus content, I get a code to enter into a draw that along with thousands of other people, has only a minute chance giving me anything at all?

That is THE WORST 'Collectors Edition' content idea EVER.

Unless the chance of going to Bethesda's offices for a tour is 100%, I would rather get a normal collector's edition.

That is actually a good idea. I would love to have a tour of the Bethesda Studios. Lets just say that would cost Bethesda unders $100 000 to do. That is 1/10th of the prize of the $1 000 000 contest. I can't believe a computer game company would offer that much money. Did they say if anyone won it?

Even if Bethesda didn't do 10 but one, still would be great. I agree, it shouldn't be for the limited or collectors edtion but for every copy sold, you get a chance to draw for a win.

True - I'd rather Bethesda focus on making a good game than produce a load of bonus stuff. All the bells and whistles in the world don't make a pile of garbage smell any better. Bethesda could always offer paid tours on the side for those who really have a yen to see the studio.

If I won a contest where I got to meet the Bethesda Crew I'd love it. Todd may have me anxious about Skyrim, but I'd love to meet MK (the best lore-writer I've ever seen in any company.)

To me the greatest gift is already being given - another TES game of AAA quality by BGS. If they hit the 11/11/11 date, which I am confident they will, that will be the best Christmas present I could ever hope to get (early X-mas that is).

Any more is icing on my frozen cake.

As cool as it sounds, even for just a tour of the office, Id much prefer a normal collectors edition simply because of the slim-to-none chance of me personally winning. Id rather not pay $10 more for a "chance" at winning something like that.

I agree with you. The chance at winning would be so small, I think there would be a lot of disappointed gamers paying for a collectors edition with nothing to show for it.

I agree, I never win contests I enter :P

I'd rather have something more epic in my Collector's Edition - something of similar uniqueness and usefulness as the Daggerfall letter opener.

Yeah a guy won it within the first week I think... I want to say you had to pitch a perfect game to win. I'll look for it and edit if I find it.

Yep, I was right you had to pitch a perfect game, a guy from Alabama won it and guess what? They are doing it again with the new MLB 2K11 http://www.destructoid.com/2k-sports-1-million-perfect-game-prize-returns-in-mlb-2k11-190974.phtml

Second edit* This is a great idea, but I would prefer all the collectors edition stuff on top of this. I mean, it would be kind of lame to pay $10 extra for something only 10 people would enjoy... We would basically be paying for the trip.

I strongly disagree with an exorbitantly priced Collector's Edition with exclusive game play content. When you buy the game, you should get the game. CEs should be other stuff. As to the tour idea while neat it's not practical.

This is a neat idea. I don't see it happening, but if handled correctly, it could work. First off, they need to make a nice collector's set people will be willing to spend the extra money for. So, it needs to include some extra goodies. This idea of winning the trip, would just be a bonus. This is a great PR move because when people hear about it, it will spur more interest in the company. It's a good thing when people start talking positively about your company. Also, this will generate more collector's edition sales. In the end though, I think Beth is just trying to get the game done and is focusing on that.

I think a raffle like that would be more plausible here on this section of the forums. Everyone who takes time to post and spend time and dedication on these forums would be far more appreciative of a tour in BGS.

What I mean is that we're about 500 at most that post on this section of the forums, so that would mean 350 or more collector's edition with raffle tickets in the hands of dedicated TES fans, but how many are they actually going to sell? A lot more. So a few hundred more are going to be TES fans that don't contribute to the forums, a few hundred more people who just buy collector's edition for every game they feel is worthy, and a few hundred more, maybe a few thousand, would be rich kids who's parents are going to get them the collector's edition because it has a nice figurine or exclusive content.

While I'm not sure if we'd ever do something like that, it's certainly a cool idea. Who didn't like the golden tickets in Willy Wonka?

The kids that came out of the factory traumatized..?

Kidding, I don't think BGS has a scary tunnel anyway.

You will get to invite all the moderators who will then come to your house and eat all your food and drink all your beer.

Great idea. While I'm there I'll have a talk with the OP's wife. ;)

Okay....Well I guess alot of you didn't read my post completely right....I said " at first I was thinking of extra items for a Collectors Edition...then INSTEAD of a Collectors Edidtion a code in the game. So in saying that there would be no extra cost for a collectors edition to get the code!

I too agree that the game coming out earlier would be a great gift, however with just having a date of 11-11-11 I think we have a better chance at this then getting the game any earlier.

As for my wife...well yes she may try and hack my aol and facebook to see what Im up too, but 1-she knows what the elder scrolls is, and hates it and 2- I know she doesnt think that I would say anything about her here....de...duh...deeeee....

And yes she is a fire breathing dragon who watches Jersey Shore...which that show makes me want to shoot my self in the head with a double barrel (one for each eye) 12 guage shot gun....her shows are one of the main reasons I play video games and my playing video games instead of spending time with her watching crap is why she hates video games...LOL...the irony =)
