To The "hardcoe"

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 10:04 am

I've seen many a request for Obsidian to make hardcoe mode "even more hardcoe." Carry limits, weapon slots, no fast travel, removing the difficulty toggle... et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

Why don't you just play the game the way you feel it's meant to be played, and let everyone else do the same?

You think you should only have three weapons? Great. Only carry three.

Fast travel is cheating? Whatever, don't use it.

Why would you ever request that the makers of Fallout take choices AWAY from you? Isn't that completely counter to the entire vision of the series?

the easy answer to this is that some of the stuff being talked about needs some scripting support in the game. dehydration, for example, will will require quite a bit of code to be written to contantly check the character's situation and then add appropriate effects. Sure some of the stuff you could do yourself, but it does get a little cumbersome adding up your ammo inventory in your head and making sure you don't pick up any more. Not a big deal, but if it's scripted, that does make it easier to do, which is adding something to the game. All you really want to make sure is, is that you can turn it off if you don't like it.

A hardcoe mode will also help people stay with it. Just not using fast travel or only using 3 weapons is not that easy to do. (can get pissed off with something and break the role playing) Plus there would be scripting needed like said above.

Plus Why are you complaining about hardcoe mode?. "If you don't want to use it then don't."

It will be alot better with it. Ammo weight and needing water and food will make it more real. :D

If things must be done via selfgimping anyway, there is no actual need for a separate mode for the additional features, imo. Just play the game the way you prefer.

Simple solution: Make everything modular.

People can customize their hardcoe experience to their liking.

That will make it truly hardcoe. People shouldn't be able to manipulate hardcoe mode, they know what they're getting into once they choose it. If they can't handle it they'll have to restart on casual mode.

I will laugh if once the game comes out everyone turns about face and starts going on how it's TOO hard.

We already have two open threads at least for this discussion. Please use one of the following.

We need to start keeping like threads together as having three threads on "hardcoe" on the first page is a bit much. Gotta do some house keeping around here.
