The Havok System

That game is honestly one of the worst pieces of **** I have ever played! :yucky:

I've never played it but from the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbitJ8W78g8, the animations look pretty fluid on the title screen.

You simply mentioning that game in relation to Skyrim fills me up with chills of fear.

I say NO! to your post (clause 1).

Well from what I can find, only one game has used the Havok Behavior program before Skyrim and that's something called "Kung-fu Rider". So let's find some videos of it's animations and see what that games animators did with it. Of course it won't be for sure a good comparison because they could have bad animators or insanely good, we just won't know.

If Skyrim looks like that I will come dangerously close to dying of laughter. And then I'll rage.

Havok can only be improved since Oblivion. I have faith it'll work just fine :)

Well Oblivion used one of the first incarnations of Havok Physics, they have had many updates and improvements to the physics engine.

If Skyrim looks like that I will come dangerously close to dying of laughter. And then I'll rage.

Why? It's not like Havok Behavior is a game engine, it's for animations and the animations are pretty fluid from what I can see of Kung Fu Rider. No matter how cheesy the gameplay looks, it's the animations that matter lol.

Behaviour is just what's being used for animation blending. And honestly, ANY animation blending is better than Oblivion's no animation blending.
The Havok engine won't magically make the animations awesome if their animators are shoveling garbage animations as fast as they can. Havok is just the tool, we really need to have our fingers crossed for quality animators at Bethesda.

though it definitely is a very lousy game. It's a small game title with a low budget and not likely top notch developers and look at how well the animation was done in spite of that. Imagine what Bethesda can do with it!

Animation blending is an amazing idea.

Until you start seeing people stretch and go flying of of nowhere and all those crazy bugs.
Ideas on paper is completely different than in when you actually use them in reality.

About half way through the video it shows the on-NPC cloth animations. Cloaks a possibility!

I'm pretty sure I've already seen a shot of a cloak in one of the GI shots. Hopefully it's animated! :)

Check out this video I found on Youtube. It demonstrates fighting between characters in Havok Behaviour.

When characters fall down they hold their head and try to catch their falls. Seems a lot like euphoria :)

Todd Howard: There's always stuff to improve. If I had to take a step back, I think our worlds are very good, I think we're on the cutting edge as far as that goes. When it comes to the characters and the animation, I think there are other people who do it much, much better. That's something we've put a lot of time into - not just technology but people and talent, and how long we spend doing individual elements.

I'm pretty excited that Havok Behavior will allow physics to affect the animations.

This is amazing, truly. http://www.havok.com/index.php?page=havok-behavior is a link to the http://www.havok.com/index.php?page=havok-behavior This will help out tremendously in production of Skyrim saving a lot of time. You know what that means. A much better game! I'm really glad this program exist.

Edit - Sorry for not being specific this thread is about havok behavior. Taking away to script the animations of the NPCs and PCs. Watch the video it's really well done. I'm almost certain they didn't have havok behavior in oblivion only physics. If someone can prove me wrong go ahead.

But is skyrim using it?

I hope so... but we need a vid or more infos from GI to see if it would have cloth.

But, capes are one of the most wanted features by the gamers... And capes are really creepy if rigid like the mods on Oblivion game... It is time to get some cloth simulations in the Elder Scrolls... This is the time!

Please Beth... Give us a good surprise! ;D

Well Todd has said that they have hired extremely talented designers to make up for what they lacked in the past and seeing as how they have over a 100 people working on Skyrim, I think we can be pretty sure that this is going to be one hell of a game. I mean, look at the Kung Fu Rider animations on the title screen and that is a relatively unknown game studio that made them.

I have not yet seen any good movies of animations in action.
If some one have any links please post them.

What I want to see is character animations interacting with the world space.
Thinks like walking on stairs, against slopes, jumping over obstacles and stuff like that.
