Thanks for posting. I am surprised with the names though. I never read the Hobbit yet, so are those names in the books as well?

So does anyone know if the first one is The Hobbit, while the second one is to tie everyting up?

The Hobbit is a bit like the prologue to Lord of the Rings. Its its own story by itself definately but leads to the trilogy.

There and back again?

Might be what happens when Frodo arrvies back to the Shire after Sauron was defeated. And it is a big section the movies leave off at. I'm not sure is this is the case though.

I really want them to do Children of Hurin.

Yes, they are. An Unexpected Journey is the name of the first chapter, and There and Back Again is what Bilbo names the book that he writes describing his journey.

Still you got to like Pam's Labyrinth.

For a second there, I thought it read Morgan Freeman. Would so use him as the narrator, hell any movies he narrates it could work and prosper.

I thought it said Morgan Freeman as well and I scratched my head thining WTF?! Of course he did an awsome job narrating Love Guru almost what ever he does turns to gold.

Would have loved to see him in Rendevouz with Rama sad that got cancelled. Sorry got off track.

So who is going to see the 3D version, I hope I can see the non 3D version, I don't care for 3D.

It's ridiculous. So they're going to add popular characters from the trilogy in the hopes people will see the prequel? The Hobbit shouldn't need that.

I could maybe see Frodo, if he's reading Bilbo's book. But Legolas? There's no place for him that would make sense. Unless he's kicking back at Elrond's or something. It can't be more than a bit part.

I'll try to find the article but I'm pretty sure they said it was more than a small part. One quote I remember is "surely he was alive at this time."

I'm sure he was alive. I just don't feel he has any part in the story.

Jeez, I feel like a total Hobbit geek.

Well, his father WAS the king of Mirkwood - and it is known that the Mirkwood elves fought in the Battle of Five Armies, so it would be very easy for him to have a cameo appearance.

They are also bringing back Frodo, and I heard Merry as well (and maybe the others). The way I see it being done, is that it will either be older Bilbo telling the tale to Frodo and the others, or Frodo reading it. It would easily fit too, because the way the Hobbit is written feels like it's being read to you.

The second part of the movie will be part Hobbit stuff (the battle of Five Armies probably, or Smaug ((though I heard they finish with him in the first movie, not sure))) and the dealings with the White Council and their dealing with the Necromancer of Dol Guldur (Sauron), which would tie the Hobbit into The Lord of the Rings.

Obviously there isn't enough source material in the Hobbit to make two full movies, so they are adding stuff Tolkien wrote but wasn't in the Hobbit.

Legolas is the Mirkwood king's son, so he would fit perfect in the story. But is Frodo even alive 60 years before the events of LOTR?
