When the Enclave soldiers began firing, the Brotherhood returned fire, being much more professional than the raiders Kurt had encountered earlier. Kurt watched as some of them dropped, then picked out a target in the far back. Soldiers hanging back means one of three things. A coward, which was unlikely considering who they were fighting, a radio operator, also unlikely since he carried no extra equipment, or an officer. Aiming for him with this assumption, Kurt opened up at the soldier, firing half his clip at him. Some of the bullets went wide, hitting the ground or other soldiers, but some found their mark on the man's helmet. The man grabbed the side of his helmet with one hand and motioned with the other, dropping his gun. Definitely an officer then. Kurt took more careful aim this time, steadied his hands, and fired the rest of his clip at the man. All the bullets hit their target this time, forcing the Brotherhood officer back a few steps as the bullets impacted, creating small holes in the armor.
Kurt slid in another clip and opened up again, striking the officer in the chest until he finally dropped. He was still moving, so he obviously wasn't dead, but he was incapacitated, and that was enough. Now the remaining soldiers knew his position though, and fired at him, forcing him to duck behind the rocks as bullets and lasers flew over his head. He was effectively pinned down. When Daniel yelled at him about a missile, Kurt could barely hear him over the noise of the gunfire, but he did feel the hand pulling him away. Kurt hit the ground just as an explosion blew away the piece of cover he had been at a moment before, and Kurt looked up, slightly dazed.
"Thanks soldier. I think I owe you a beer now."
