Kurt nodded to the Captain and headed off to the west, already plotting a course in his head. He walked through the rocks, scanning the distance for any threats, but the only thing he saw was a mole rat, and he refused to waste ammo on such a pathetic creature. He had a sudden wish for his helmet, but only so that he could listen to the Enclave station. He carefully picked his path through some rubble of what had been a gas station, as the elevation slowly increased.
Eventually, he got to a small cliff, overlooking a the flat wastes. Kurt cursed as he noticed some figures just within his field of vision. He pulled out his sniper rifle and used the scope to get a better look. He sighed with relief when he noticed that they were just raiders, maybe even the same ones he had noticed earlier. Ordinarily, Kurt would have just ignored the raiders, but they were heading straight for him, and past him was the camp. With everyone still recovering, a raider attack would be unacceptable. It wouldn't have posed that much of a threat, but the raiders might get lucky and kill a wounded or sleeping Enclave soldier. Against any other opponent, this would be acceptable, but against raiders, even one death was not an acceptable tactical loss.
Kurt quickly took stock of their equipment.
A flamer, two missile launchers, plenty of assault rifles, melee weapons, and side arms. Who knows what they have for explosive ordinace. Now the question is, do I want to go with the obvious choice and shoot the flamer, causing everyone to go up in flames, or do I want to go the hard way, risk death, but gain more supplies.Kurt decided that the chances of his death were mimimal, and they the pay-off from killing the raiders the regular way would be worth it in the end. Having made this decision, he went prone in the dust and took careful aim with his sniper.
Taking into account range, target density, gun calibre, wind speeds, how steady I can hold the gun during the shot... I'd give it... Eighty-percent chance to kill on impact.A boom echoed across the wastes, and the raider in front, one of the ones carrying a missile launcher, went down. Even from this distance Kurt could hear the raiders screaming. But more importantly, they began shooting in random directions. That meant they hadn't determined his position.
Lets see how long I can keep this cover.Kurt took a second shoot, nailing another raider who spun all the way around as the shards of his head fell off. The raiders began firing in his general direction, but they were too far off to the right. Kurt took a third shot, taking the leg off the raider with the flamer, who was now on the ground screaming in pain. Unfortunately for the raiders, the pain made his muscles tense, and he pulled and held down the trigger on the flamer, cooking four other raiders as he jerked around wildly. Eventually one of the other raiders shot him to stop the fire, but all he received for his trouble was a bullet to the back of the head. The final raider dropped his gun and raised his hands in the air, hoping beyond hope that his life would be spared.
Amazingly, it was, as the sniper rose from his hiding spot and made his way down to the fallen raiders and the one that had miraculously survived.
"Oh, thank you, thank you. I promise I'll change my ways. I can't thank you enough for sparing my-"
His sentance was cut off as Kurt drew his pistol. He put a bullet right between the man's eyes. Kurt looked down with disdain at the fallen men. "Pathetic."
OOC: A nice, long post, and my last for the night.
