The Hold out

Post » Wed Aug 19, 2009 5:44 pm

I hadn't found anything until I came to a clearing. I was using my scope to recon the area. In the clearing I saw a BoS outpost, just a small one, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was more in the area. I peered through my scope until I found a target. He was drinking with his comrades. I had his head on my scope. "Should i shoot? It would be so easy, but we are just doing a recon." I decided to scare them off. I took the first shot, destroying the head of the initiate. "This is all too easy, must be new guys." His two other friends noticed his unexpected death and began to run into their tent, probably gonna call for a evac, the cowards. I shot twice quickly, but spaced. Both met their targets dead on, between the eyes. I went ahead and looted them. Then I checked their researches. Mostly pointless. I went into their base and looted their medical supplies and ammo, they had loads for just the three of them, but like they need it anymore. The Captain had said in a mile radius. I most have been at least a mile, so I decided to return to base and report. But not before finding some meat for the new Enclave Deathclaw.

Kurt nodded to the Captain and headed off to the west, already plotting a course in his head. He walked through the rocks, scanning the distance for any threats, but the only thing he saw was a mole rat, and he refused to waste ammo on such a pathetic creature. He had a sudden wish for his helmet, but only so that he could listen to the Enclave station. He carefully picked his path through some rubble of what had been a gas station, as the elevation slowly increased.

Eventually, he got to a small cliff, overlooking a the flat wastes. Kurt cursed as he noticed some figures just within his field of vision. He pulled out his sniper rifle and used the scope to get a better look. He sighed with relief when he noticed that they were just raiders, maybe even the same ones he had noticed earlier. Ordinarily, Kurt would have just ignored the raiders, but they were heading straight for him, and past him was the camp. With everyone still recovering, a raider attack would be unacceptable. It wouldn't have posed that much of a threat, but the raiders might get lucky and kill a wounded or sleeping Enclave soldier. Against any other opponent, this would be acceptable, but against raiders, even one death was not an acceptable tactical loss.

Kurt quickly took stock of their equipment. A flamer, two missile launchers, plenty of assault rifles, melee weapons, and side arms. Who knows what they have for explosive ordinace. Now the question is, do I want to go with the obvious choice and shoot the flamer, causing everyone to go up in flames, or do I want to go the hard way, risk death, but gain more supplies.

Kurt decided that the chances of his death were mimimal, and they the pay-off from killing the raiders the regular way would be worth it in the end. Having made this decision, he went prone in the dust and took careful aim with his sniper. Taking into account range, target density, gun calibre, wind speeds, how steady I can hold the gun during the shot... I'd give it... Eighty-percent chance to kill on impact.

A boom echoed across the wastes, and the raider in front, one of the ones carrying a missile launcher, went down. Even from this distance Kurt could hear the raiders screaming. But more importantly, they began shooting in random directions. That meant they hadn't determined his position. Lets see how long I can keep this cover.

Kurt took a second shoot, nailing another raider who spun all the way around as the shards of his head fell off. The raiders began firing in his general direction, but they were too far off to the right. Kurt took a third shot, taking the leg off the raider with the flamer, who was now on the ground screaming in pain. Unfortunately for the raiders, the pain made his muscles tense, and he pulled and held down the trigger on the flamer, cooking four other raiders as he jerked around wildly. Eventually one of the other raiders shot him to stop the fire, but all he received for his trouble was a bullet to the back of the head. The final raider dropped his gun and raised his hands in the air, hoping beyond hope that his life would be spared.

Amazingly, it was, as the sniper rose from his hiding spot and made his way down to the fallen raiders and the one that had miraculously survived.

"Oh, thank you, thank you. I promise I'll change my ways. I can't thank you enough for sparing my-"

His sentance was cut off as Kurt drew his pistol. He put a bullet right between the man's eyes. Kurt looked down with disdain at the fallen men. "Pathetic."

I stumbled to the edge of a cliff and looked out across the wasteland. I saw something that raised the hair on the back of my neck. I started sweating uncontrollably. Off in the distance, about 10 miles away I saw a monstrosity. It was so big, I thought...
"Oh, my, god..." I muttered.
Off in the distance, stood a giant robot, walking our way. I stood riveted to the ground and stared at it. I ran with all my energy back to the base and I yelled out, "Everyone! Listen up! We have about 2 weeks before that robot gets here!"
I noticed something, Kirsty was unconcious at the bottom of some stairs near a building. I picked her up and took her back to the medical tent. I treated her injuries as best I could. I sighed, "This is not going according to plan," I muttered. I looked around and saw a note with lots of medical supplies next to it. I read it out loud, "I'm sorry Captain, I need to go do something I've always wanted to do. I'll never be coming back. Goodbye." I cursed, and cursed again. I went outside and repeated it so that everyone could hear.
"Sid's abandoned us I'm afraid, and Kirsty is injured so we have no Medic," I yelled out at the end.
I wondered what to do next, I couldn't think straight, and the day had only just begun. I sighed and walked into the command tent. Noticing our radio operator I asked him, "We need more supplies, a lot more supplies." He nodded, and started talking into the radio.
I muttered and walked out, wondering what to do next. I couldn't think of anything important so I restocked my ammo and repaired my weapons. I got my helmet back and decided to do a quick patrol. I kept my mind clear of anything and everything.

I woke you and felt pain everywhere.
I looked down at my ankle, it was broken. But who had done this?
I sat up slightly to find that i was the only one in the infermary.
I winced in pain. When i fell down the stairs i must have bruised my whole body....

I hissed.
I remebered a song that reminds me of a memory..
I started humming the tune but then i started to sing.
"I don't want to set the world on fire, I just want to start, a flame in your heart..."
Suddenly I hear a noise, so i pretended to go back to sleep.
Only to have my thoughts filled of a painful and sometimes blissful past.....

I had was looking voer the wastes from the camp, it felt peacefull in a strange way. I shrugged and grabbed the tail of a dead and very black deathclaw. "Burning Deathclaw doesn't smell great now does it?" I joked to no one inparticuler. I had taken a laser shot to the right shoulder, though had patched myself up, no use taking help that I don't need.

When I had got back I was told about this robot in the distance, I took my helmet off to get a better view of the area. I gathered some supplies from the storeage area to place the fuel I had used, as well as a few of my grenades.

I walked towards the command tent and went flap, stopped and saluted. "Sir, permission to see if I could slow them down?" I asked, "Maybe block some of the routes, the robot could possibly still get past, but I doubt those Brotherhood of Steel would want it to leave them." I hoped my request would be allowed, even if it didn't slow them down, the thought of what I was doing might relive some of the pressure and maybe cheer up the troops a litte.

(OCC: Since Blackmane added that, this is before I went on the patrol.)

"Of course soldier, if you want I'll catch up with you a bit later," I said to him, saluting. Marvelling at what a soldier he was being.
I muttered and walked out, wondering what to do next. I couldn't think of anything important so I restocked my ammo and repaired my weapons. I got my helmet back and decided to do a quick patrol. I kept my mind clear of anything and everything. After about 10 minutes I decided to give it up and join back up with Sergeant Green.
"You ready to go Sergeant? I asked, "You can go solo or I can tag along, I want to do something as well." I stood, waiting for his answer.

"Yes Sir, feel free," I replied, "Always good to have a extra set of hands, just give me a moment to collect a rifle, the Incinerator is just to heavy for this sort of thing." I walked off to the supplies and grabbed a laser rifle, making sure the weapon was working to atleast a reasonable level before heading back.

I got back and saw the captian waiting for me, "Shall we go sir?" I asked He nodded and we made out way towards the robot going into the wastelands to try and find a good place to slow the Brotherhood down.

I saw Kirsty running after us, I wondered how she could find the energy.
"Kirsty, you shouldn't be running around after what happened to you!" I yelled at her.
She stubbornly followed the Sergeant and I, so I just shrugged and let her come along. We kept up a fast pace and we were pretty far away from the camp when Sergeant Green held up his hand. I noticed his plan, this was a pass, the main thing which went towards Blood Gulch. The Brotherhood would be heading through here for sure, I thought.
"Well Sergeant, I like your thinking," I said to him, clapping him on the back.
If we had more soldiers like him, everything would be so much easier, I thought.

I decided to set up a medical tent while Sergeant Green and Captain Pavlic set up some defences.

While i was setting up the tenet i started to wonder how i would die.
I hoped it would be of natural causes.
Then again I'm scared of death.
I think thats why i became a medic.

I stopped suddenly and looked at the Sergeant.
"Sergeant? How did you end up here? On a suicide mission like this?" I asked him, really wishing he hadn't been here. He seemed like he had to much of a life he could live.

I was starting to place explosives in cracks of rocks preparing to blow the place, "Honestly, I have no idea... Sir," I replied, "Maybe I pissed off a superior or a higher entity." I looked around and sighed, no thats not it, "About 30 years ago my father screwed up, he was stationed on the west cost, some tribal got past him and some of his men and allowed the place to be blown apart," I said, "You know how it goes, one family member screws up and it carries on down the line."

I hopped down from some rocks I had climbed, "Well life goes on," I said, "I'll just carry on fighting until the day I die, which could possibly be very soon." I looked up into the sky towards the sun, I just wish I wasn't here, I've always wanted to start a family. "Sir grab some rest or food if you like, I shouldn't be long, just need to set the fuse."

I stared at Demetri, and I took off my helmet. I went up to him and patted him on the back.
"Everyone's here because of something that happened with them or their family," I said to him. "I got stuck here because I'm an outcast to them, I joined because my whole family was killed."
I looked at him, trying to discern his expression through his helmet.
"I don't want to be here, the only person who really does would have to be the Lieutenant," I muttred. "I have a woman I love in Rivet City, I only saw her a year ago." I continued staring at him. "Sergeant, if I don't make it through this, I want you to get out of here," I said, emotion coating my voice. "Give this to her, her name's Katelyn," I whipsered, handing him a note I'd written that very morning. "If I make it out of this, still get out of here and give her that note." I gave him a serious look, then a half-hearted smile. I walked to the tent Kirsty had set up and got a bit of food. I sat down outside and started eating something to settle my stomach. I thought I could trust Demetri, he seemed to be a man who would do what he needed to live. I walked back up to him, he was still setting up.
"Demetri, if we both make it through this," I started, "I'm getting you out of here, you deserve more than your getting." I walked up to him, patted him on the back again and went to find somewhere to rest, I hadn't had a decent 8 hour sleep in to long a time.

I was feeling assured and started to wire the bombs to blow, I would of liked a timed fuse but couldn't risk if not going off, this delay could save some lives. I finished wiring the fuse and hoped to detonate it tonight hopefully. I wondered around double checking each charge, I was getting slightly bored and worried, never know what could be around.

I strod over to the tent and peaked inside seeing the the female medic, taking off my helmet so she could hear me more easily, "I'm going to do a quick scout," I said, "So if the captian wakes up just tell him." I walked away and started looking through the rocky crags before coming three corpses, I made my way down from the rocks I was on and noted them being Bortherhood. As I started to inspect the bodies I saw that one had been cut in half and the other had a hole through his chest about the size of my fist. I looked around a bit more and found a suit of power armour which had a large hole gashed out of it, and what looking to be some thick liquid in it, "What happened to this one then?" I asked myself, and taking myself back towards are small camp, I needed to report this.

I decided that im never going to live the life i had wished to have.
I started to tremble.
I knew i was going to cry.
I tried to stop it from happening.
But i couldn't, Suddenly tears flowed.
Stress to succeed. The life of a medic. My Fiance....

The only person i probably wont see for some while.......

I calmed myself down. I looked up to see the Sergeant coming back. I knew he was worried.
I had to wake the captain.

"Captain Pavlic, Sergeant Green went out for a quick patrol, he is returning but is very worried about something he saw on his patrol" I said repeatedly till Captain Pavlic Awoke.

I had a dream, a terrible dream. A dream where everyone in the group was killed because of a traitor amongst us, he killed me last laughing over me as he brought his gun to my head...
I woke up panting, Kirsty looked worried but otherwise was used to it. I got up and put my armor back on, I walked out stretched and noticed that Demetri wasn't there.
"Did the Sergeant go somewhere?" I asked Kirsty.
She nodded and I felt really worried. I felt something for the soldier, more than I should. I sighed, "If he gets himself killed I'm giving up..." I muttured.
I thought about what to do and I was stumped for ideas. I pulled out my rifle and started fiddling with it, trying to find a way to add more power output on it. I decided to risk it and installed a fission battery into the ammo compartment. It had limited my ammo capacity to 12 shots per clip but I took a shot on the rock and saw it was worth it. "Woah, I shouldn't toy with already powerful things," I mumured, looking at the remains of the rock. I decided to settle in and wait for the Sergeant to get back.

((OCC: I'm off for the night, I'll be back in about 8-10 hours I guess. LOL well however long it takes for me to sleep wake up and get back on anyway.)

I strod into the camp and walked towards the captian. "Captian, we have a problem, there are brotherhood patrols in the area," I said, "But that isn't my major concern, the patrol I found were all dead, brutally as well." I thought for a moment, "Not sure what it was that killed them, but it is big, Sir."

I stood at the camp. Amazing. There were hardly any of us left. One had left and the others had gone on a scouting trip. The remaining soldiers at the camp were either patrolling or eating. I knew they didn't want to fight the robot. I didn't want to either, but I had to. That was how life was. The captain had allowed me to keep the plasma rifle because I took out two deathclaws with it. The rifle felt powerful to me. That was a good thing. I decided to continue my patrol and see what would happen today.

When I returned to base from the recon, I could see the Captain was not back yet, and other soldiers were gone too. I walked into our placed the supplies I had found on a table. I walked out, unsure what to do now. I decided to patrol the outpost, I doubt there would be any excitement.

Private Henry Jones
The captain requested
additional medical supplies and I put the order through on my radio "This is Fox company at Echo outpost we need a supply drop and some medics, If you can find any over." HQ replied "Roger that Fox company we'll see what we can do over," I quickly added "and we may need some heavier firepower over," The others were just making recon patrols and doing their best to prepare. However I noticed that we could have done a better job of regrouping faster after the attack. Our ranks were depleted and my CO was nowhere to be found. I decided to report to the sergeant , "Sir! Reinforcements and supplies are inbound, Sir!" I then heard the steady droning of a vertibird approaching I walked up to it and saw men disembark, one of which was a medic. "Hey, finally a medic my name's Henry Jones good to see you and the supplies! " Things were starting to look up.

As he walked towards the camp he noticed an innumerable amount of bodies, deathclaw and brotherhood alike. He walked up to the Captain, "Corporal Daniel Shepherd reporting for duty sir." he said bringing his right hand to a salute above his brow. He looked around the camp and wandered into a tent to see if there were any medical supplies. He had been attacked by 3 Yao Guai on his way to camp. He stumbled upon a girl cleaning out some of her wounds. "Looks like i missed out on all the action! Too bad, i was in the mood to kill something." he said jokingly, as he heard the roar of a vertibird approaching the camp "Aww come on i just got here! Cant I even grab a quick bite!" he said as he left the tent and waited for the vertibird to land."

"Good to meet you, where you support." Jason said, saying the obvoius. "If you need to be patched up, just tell me." Jason took a seat on a nearby chair.

"Not a lot of people around." Jason said under his breath. Jason went though his supplies once more. Made sure everything they would need for battle he had. He then put it in a med-kit that he strapped the back of his power armour. Jason then took at a piece of paper he was able to find on one of his missions. He wrote to his father, who currently resided to Megaton. Jason slowly feel asleep.

Kurt grabbed a rather large sack off the ground, noting that it had almost no holes. "Well, now isn't that convenient."

He went through, checking the corpses for any valuable equipment. He left all the armor, as it was completely useless in comparison to power armor, but did take all the rounds and containers of ammo he could find. He also secured a small amount of medical supplies, but not surprisingly, most of what they carried was actually some form of drug. He also secured one frag grenade, replacing the one he had lost earlier. He left the rest though. He didn't completely trust the bag to hold together, and if it didn't the last thing he wanted was grenades rolling all over the place. This done, Kurt decided to return to base, thoroughly satisfied with the result of his patrol.

After a while he got back to base, just in time to see a vertibird landing. He moved over to where the supplies were kept and just dropped the bag there. It wasn't his job to sort ammo, and frankly, it would have been below someone of his rank. He then walked over to the vertibird as some of men were just disembarking, and he nodded to them. He didn't especially care who they were, but he always made a point of assessing his allies and determining who he would trust to watch his back in a firefight and who he wouldn't.
