The Hold Out-RP

Sara cringed a little as she heard General Winter's announcement. It didn't matter what she found out about the disease right now. There was no way for her to get to the Colonel right now. It was time for her to turn her attention to other matters. Closing the window with the file, Sara smiled as another joined the party. It appeared that Demetri may have been suspicious of Greg at this moment. Sara smiled evilly and began to type into the computer. Camera views from all over Blood Gulch appeared on the screen. It only took her a moment to find the one she wanted. Clicking on it she examined the scene and immediately took notice of the terminal on the desk. Instantly she started typing into the her computer. It only took a moment to link up, and take control of the other terminal. And since Gregory was on the other side of the desk he wouldn't be able to see. Sara started typing and the words immediately appeared on Demetri's terminal.

"Do not react to this. Guess Who?????" Sara started to giggle for a moment and then immediately composed herself.

"Tell Gregory to return to his quarters and you will bring him what he wants. Make up a story about not trusting me. That is all." Sara waited just long enough for him to read it before clearing the screen.

She terminated the link and went to her messenger. She needed to do something about the approaching BOS. And she had an idea that might buy them all some time. And since General Winter was in charge right now, she knew, she wouldn't really have to explain herself fully. The General always was a little slow.

"Dearest General Winter;

If you will allow me, I have a way to slow down the Brother hood of Steel that are en route to Blood Gulch. To do this, I will need to leave the base and take a small escort for protection, until I reach them. As such I would like to have Private Henry Jones, Gunnery Sergeant Demetri Green, and Lieutenant Mordecai Jones assigned to me.

I would also liked to mention that if successful I would be able to bring back more detailed info about the troops that are coming at us, as I should be able to infiltrate them. I can send them off to chase their tails somewhere else before coming here.

Respectfully

Dr. Sara Carter

P.S. Perhaps it is time to get the package ready for delivery. God Bless America"

Sara sent the message and waited for the reply, though she was pretty sure what the answer would be.

Henry walked out of the room and before he had even gotten a few steps a runner came to him with a message to report to the armory for a special escort mission for Captain Carter. Since he was already under her direct command he wasn't surprised. Whatever the mission was though, it was better than sitting around in some Enclave Soap Opera or playing Wargames. This was the real deal. Henry sent off the runner and put on his soldier hat, R&R was over now. "Sir, we have to report to Captain Carter in the Armory, it looks like an escort mission." Henry ran off into the hallways thinking, This had better be some real action.

As he watched his Terminal General Winter got a message from Captain Carter, with a small smile he read it all the way through. Carter had a way with words when she wanted to, even if she was the best interrogater in the Enclave. Thinking for a few moments he began on a reply to her, he typed slowly; as he was never really good with technology. He was always the fighter, or the person who did fast-negotiating.

Eventually, he came up with:

"Captain Carter,

Your request is accepted, don't get yourself killed out there and do whatever you can. The men are hereby put into your command until the mission is completed. God speed and God bless the Enclave.

Sincerely
General Winter

P.S: Perhaps so, perhaps not. Time shall tell, once you've put in a report we'll see what could happen."

Quickly sending it off to her Terminal he sat back and relaxed, tired of just sitting and waiting.

Something on Demetri's terminal screen caught his eye, tapping a few keys to see if he could gain control of the terminal failed. Soon the messages popped. "Do not react to this. Guess Who?????" Demetri raised an eyebrow, before realising it was Captian Carter, he read the rest of the message, "Tell Gregory to return to his quarters and you will bring him what he wants. Make up a story about not trusting me. That is all." Demetri sighed, he just hoped if caught it would get pulled out of this mess by her, and the captian was his superior, but the idea of making something up about not trusting her, Demetri did not trust her.

Demetri looked up at Greg, "Never mind, decided best not to know," Demetri said, "I'll help, just because there is a far worse fate for you otherwise." Demetri soon went back to the terminal, the message cleared and the machine back in his control. Demetri sighed and shot down the terminal and left the office. Demetri walked back outside in the compund and made his way to the armoury. He decided getting the pistols out of the way was the best, and often a few laser pistols went missing, mainly from the younger recruits who were worried about what their surperiors would do to them if they found out they damaged their weapons.

Demetri grabbed the a pistol and holstered it, most would assume it is his then and not thing about it. Demetri made his way to where he needed to go. Demetri quickly found the lab and went to the next room and hid the pistol where indicated. The other was not there yet. Demetri made his way back outside and was intercepted by a runner. "Sir, reassignment," the runner said and held out a sheet of paper. Demetri snatched it out of his hands and his eyes franticly scanned the document, "Dammit," Demetri muttered, Demetri pulled out a note pad and pencial and wrote a message, 'Sergeant, you are now in command of the squad, seems I've been reassigned.' Demetri tore the paper out of the notebook and handed it over to the runner, "Give this to Sergeant Barrows of India squad," Demetri told him. The runner nodded, "Yes sir." He walked off to preform the rest of his orders.

Demetri sighed, atleast he can get out of the compound now, he had been stuck here for two months straight so far.

Sara continued to listen in and watch the screen. As she did, she received a message from General Winter, allowing her to proceed with her mission. She watched as Demetri told Greg what she had told him to. Sara continued watching as Demetri retrieved a laser pistol and took it to Demetri's room. As quick as she could, Sara changed into a pair of jeans and a tee shirt, put on her coat, and went into Greg's room.

Sara retrieved the laser pistol from it's hiding sopt, and sat on the bed, and waited. She was a little surprised that Demetri had actually gone to get him a gun. She realized now she should have worded her message a little different. While she waited, she took a little time to remove some of the parts from the pistol. Once she had finished, and the pistol was no longer in working order, she returned it to the hiding spot. The pistol would no longer work, and there would be know way for Greg to know that, until he actually tried to fire it.

Greg walked back, a grin on his face. He had taken the time to get a quick thing to eat and knew Dimitri had delivered the gun already. He felt pretty good right then, having everything as he wanted it to be. It was perfect, now he had something to protect himself, and Sara and Colonel Pavlic where the only people who knew the truth about him. Exactly as it should be.

He walked over to his door and unlocked it. Making sure to grab the pistol from its hiding spot. The next thing he saw he couldn't believe. Sara was sitting on his bed, just sitting there. " Sa- Sara" " What are you doing here" Greg said this worryingly. How, he thought, how.

Sara grinned at Greg as he entered the room. The look on his face was one of surprise and Sara pondered what to do with. Although she did need him for research purposes, her purposes would be better served by just dissecting him. Still, Sara wasn't finished with her game and had other ideas.

"You've been a naughty boy." Sara smiled, a scolding tone accompanied it. Sara placed the laser on the bed next to her and continued to speak.

"You said I could trust you, it appears you deceived me again," Sara spoke coldly. "Now here is how this is going to play out. I have to go away for a bit, and you are going to stay on the base. Go and see General Winter and find out if he has any tasks for you." Sara paused and her expression became more caring.

"Please don't disappoint me again. I promise I will get you out of this. And please don't make me have to turn you in. It's really not what I want, but if you contiue to act against me, I will have no choice." Sara stood up and walked to the door. She just needed to return to her lab for a moment. As she exited she stopped and turned, looking at Gregory again.

"Oh and one more thing, would you be a dear and tell me what's on the data tape. I don't have time to read it right now, so it would make my life so much easier." Sara smiled and wondered if he would tell the truth.

"Wait, what!" Greg ran over to the desk and unlocked it, opening it to reveal nothing. That black hearted witch, how did she know. Must have a camera hooked up somewhere.

" All I'll say is to read it when you get back, it's a surprise for you". Gregory turned away and let a smile creep across his face, it certainly was a surprise. " I'll report to General immediately."

Greg walked back out after Sara left, thinking about the current situation. He knew Sara was trusting him less and less, but he couldn't give up on this. What was on that tape would show Greg's true feelings for Sara, and couldn't be read yet. Greg walked over to the intercom next to Winter's office and asked to come in.

Sara watched Greg walk down the hall. Turning her back, she entered her lab, and went to the desk. Inside was a small, leather case with some syringes in int. She placed them in her pocket and walked to the intercom on the wall. Pressing the PA switch, she began to speak.

"This is Captain Sara Carter. Would Corporal Dominick Carcosa report to the armoury for assignment." She smiled and turned of the intercom. She might as well take them all. No one for Greg to try and manipulate. She was sure that runners would have been dispatched to retrieve Mordecai, Henry, and Demetri, so there was no point in calling their names. Taking one last check to make sure that everything in the office was locked and secured, she exited and locked the door, and headed towards the armoury. Sara would probably have to explain herself to the General when she arrived at the armoury. That is unless he truly did trust her judgement, and since he probably had his hands full, he would be too busy to care.

Henry entered the armory to find himself the first one there. So he spent his extra time gearing up for the mission. He put on his power armor on top of his standard uniform that was designed for power armor functionality and for regular wear. He put on his helmet and his HUD flashed into view giving him info on armor integrity, his health condition, and a directional compass that also helped find allies and target enemies. He loaded up his laser rifle with a fresh microfusion cell and put it in his magnetic plate that held the gun in place. He filled his belt with more micro fusion round and holstered his laser pistol along with a few extra plasma grenades. After being fully armed Henry was feeling a lot more comfortable. He continued sorting out the miscellaneous things he needed while waiting for the others

Demetri walked into the armoury, the peice of paper with his reassignment still clenched tightly in his fist. Demetri looked up to see Henry in there, giving a small nod as a greeting, Demetri set about equipping himself. The armour took a number of minutes to get on and calibrate the armour, and to make sure all the parts worked. His weapons were still stored, loaded and in good nick, Demetri always made sure to keep his weapons in top condition, a weapon malfunction could mean life or death.

Demetri sat his helmet down on a table and looked towards henry, "Any idea why we are wanted?" Demetri asked him.

"No idea here, I think sometimes she just wants to mess with us. Anyway, I hear this is going to be some escort mission into the wastes sir," Henry was unhappy at how he had been reassigned but was a feeling a bit better with some company. At least I won't die by myself if it comes to that. Henry picked up some stimpaks and gave some to Demetri. "You should probably go heavy on this one, I don't expect us to come back for at least a few days sir," he pocketed some bland ration bars that gave a soldier the strength to keep going but little else. After getting fully equipped and saw Demetri's weapons, he felt very weak with his laser rifle compared to Demetri's heavy incinerator. With nothing else to do now but wait Henry began to polish his helmet's lenses.

"[censored] it," was all he could say. Rubbing his chin he scanned the stasis pod reports, this was not going to go down well with Sara. She had needed the Colonel, but now... Scowling the General closed down the report and tapped his fingers together. He was waiting, what for though? He didn't know, even if he did. With a smile he realised he was confusing himself in his own mind, which brought to thoughts how someone who wasn't him would fare travelling through it.

Yawning he leaned back and closed his eyes, just in time to hear a small whine spurt from his Terminal. Lifting his eyes open slowly he looked at the new message, quick enough he felt himself be pushed forwards. With his eyes raising slowly he quickly slowed his breathing to calm down. With a light breath he composed a message to Captain Carter:

Captain Carter,

Send your forces out straight away, we need to distract them from their path right NOW. Confirmed destruction of Outpost Zeta, move out.

General Winter

Sitting back again he sighed and closed his eyes, muttering something about all of them dying. Suddenly he heard a voice outside his office door, opening his eyes he quickly said, "Come in, don't stand on ceremony. I don't have much time to wait around for people these days either."

Sara entered the armoury and saw that Henry and Demetri had already arrived. Without a word, she moved to a wall terminal to check for any final messages from the General. Sara read the screen and sighed. This changed everything, and made her plan a little harder to accomplish. Sara logged off the terminal and moved over to a cupboard on the wall. From it, she removed two pairs of binoculars and threw them to Demetri and Henry.

"Good afternoon gentlemen. The mission today will be an escort mission of sorts. My job is to divert the Brotherhood tropps that are on their way here. Your job is to escort me." Sara paused for a moment and became a little more serious.

"My original intention was to rendezvous with the force that is still two days away. Unfortunately, I've just learned that Outpost Zeta has been destroyed by another Brotherhood force. Now since Zeta is only about two miles away, it is imperative that we leave now. Hopefully the other two will show up and join us later." Sara stopped again to collect her thoughts. It was time to explain how she meant to achieve her goal.

"I will go into the outpost, posing as a Lamplighter, and tell the Brotherhood that Lamplight is under attack by a rather large Enclave force. Of course the almighty Brotherhood will go to investigate. The two of you will observe from a distance, and when I have completed my mission, I will meet up with you and we will return here." Sara started to think about pain. The pain she wanted to cause the BOS as well as the pain she would be experiencing in a few short moments. Sara looked at Henry and smiled.

"Since I know for a fact that you don't like me very much," she now looked at Demetri. "And of course you are a good soldier who follows orders. And since even with my appearance, I do look older than sixteen. I need to order you both to beat the [censored] out of me. I know that you may feel a little apprehension at this order. I know I would in your place. But I need to be as convincing as possible when I meet the brotherhood. And let's face it, someone coming from an attack at Lamplight would probably in pretty bad shape. So for the good of the Enclave, I order both of you to attack me." Sara removed her coat and pistols and, dropping them to the floor, awaited the attack

"Oh and gentlemen, don't hold back too much. Despite my size, I can take it." It wouldn't be the first time that Sara had taken a beating for the Enclave.

Beat the crap out of her? Henry had no love for Sara for reassigning him but this order was just plain crazy. Sara was a master manipulator, of that he had no doubt, but she was very convincing. "So before we start bearing you up, how exactly do we take out the brotherhood after the distraction? I wouldn't want you to be too seriously wounded that you can't command." Henry then looked at Demetri and said "You want to go first? I feel a bit uneasy beating up women, even if it is an order,"

"Oh and try to make all the wounds look worse than it is," Said Henry after he reduced the power setting on his armor, he didn't want to misjudge his strength. This was unlike everything he had ever done before, in a way, Henry was starting to respect Sara for her devotion to her country. Even if she is a sadistic witch.

Demetri raised an eyebrow, "Ma'am, you surely can't be serious?" Demetri asked, this was one of the most unusual orders he had been given. Demetri could easily floor a fit and well trained man in one punch without the assistance of his power armour, he dreaded what he would do to Sara with his power armour on. Demetri knew that Sara was right, he did follow orders unquestionly, but that is because until now, he had never had reason to question an order.

Sara had stood there expecting it, comfirming that she did want to take a beating from the two of them. Thoughts went through Demetri's head, she needed cuts and brusies to make it look like she had been in a warzone, what terrible thoughts Demetri had upon inflicting to a women. "I'll assume you have some wastelander getup to make yourself fit in, Ma'am," Demetri and walked up to Sara, with his power armour on, Demetri towered over he, "Sorry if this hurts to much." Demetri had a frown on his face and swung his fist connecting with the side of her face.

Even though Sara was ready for it, the blow still knocked her off her feet. She pushed herself up, and spat out some blood onto the ground. Sara looked into the eyes of Demetri, and even though she was in pain, a look of boredom was on Sara's face. She had been hit harder than this by the guards in the underground when she would pose as a prisoner to conduct interrogations. Even though she had a silver tongue, appearance was everything. And it would have to look legitimate for her to convince the Brotherhood. Sara turned her attention to Norman for a moment.

"If you don't get over here and do this, you will have a very large problem. You should be really careful to watch what you say to other people. Never know who might be listening." Sara had a smile on her face, and also had Henry on tape offering to help Greg get a weapon. She now looked back at Demetri.

"You know if all the Enclave soldiers are as much of a [censored] as you are, I'm sure the Brotherhood will have no trouble wiping us off the map." Sara had to admit, it was a good punch, but she wanted more. In some ways, she enjoyed pain. It allowed her to focus. Made her more alert. But this time she would have to be hurt more severe than she had before. And there was no doubt in Sara's mind that the Brotherhood would waste their resources to patch her up.

Greg opened the door, stopping when he took his finger off the button. Had the General been told of Gregory's true identity? He had hoped not, as the General would most likely not let him do anything. Greg walked in, seeing the General for the first time. The General was often hiding away in his office, having only the most important people in the Enclave talk to him.

" Sir, are there any assignments open right now? Anybody missing for anything? I would like to have something to do other than sit in this base all day". Greg sounded impatient, and he really was. He had been through so much hell lately, and just needed something to do to get his mind off it . It would feel great to kill someone soon.

" I don't care what it is, It could be anything other than guarding the base." The General looked tired, and Greg wondered if he was even listening to him. He sounded like a kid asking for a toy, but he was so tired of being stuck in the base. He sat down, eagerly waiting for the General's response. The thought of killing and injuring came threw his mind again. Oh how much he wanted to hurt someone right now.

The General looked up at Greg, staring into his eyes that glowed with something else. Scowling he thought about it for a second then an idea popped into his head, with a start he quickly said, "Okay, Captain Carter is going out on a mission to halt the Brotherhood. I understand that recently you have had a small downfall of some kind with our ranks. As such, if you go with the Captain I'm sure you'd patch things up quite well,

so why not hurry up and find her. Good luck, that's about the only opening still up at the moment, so good luck." Shuffling a few papers around his desk the General turned his attention back to the Terminal. Sighing he just leant back and closed his eyes again, tired of things already.

Greg couldn't help but laugh a bit. This was going to be a hell of a surprise for Sara, who thought she might get some time away from him. " Yes sir, she told me before she was heading for the armory, so I will head there. Greg stood up and opened the door, walking back out. The General hadn't told him what kind of mission it was though, leaving him to think. Well, whatever it was, he hoped it had something to do with hurting someone, a lot of someones.

Gregory stopped by a terminal mounted on the wall, looking at where he needed to go. He had been restricted from many places in the base, and had to look over the map again. He shut off the terminal after finding where it was and headed down the long hallways towards the armory. Well, at least he was going to get out of the base and do something other than get beat and tested on for a cure.

Greg rounded the hallway to the armory, opening the door. As the door opened, he saw Demetri slam his fist into the side of Sara's face knocking her to the ground. " The strangest things have been happening when I'm around, haven't they Sara" " Anyone care to explain what's going on here, General Winter had me assigned to the mission." Greg did wonder what was going on, and what type of mission this was. He wanted information, even though he knew he wouldn't get much as he knew Sara still didn't trust him.

Sara watched as Greg entered the room. She was starting to think that Greg was becoming more trouble than he was worth. She had more than enough to convict him as spy. And of course, he could always be killed on the mission. Perhaps a radscorpion or yao guai would come along and kill him, the rest of us narrowly escaping. Of course, he might still prove useful.

"These gentlemen were just following my orders," Sara smiled. "I have to conduct an infiltration mission and need to be hurt. These men seem to think I am trying to manipulate them somehow, but it's something that I have to do for my people." Sara paused. She needed a moment to think on the best way to play this. Smiling she turned back to Demetri and Henry.

"Thanks to Gregory, you have a witness to my orders. I assure you I am not trying to harm you in any way. I am just doing what is best for the Enclave. So for the last time, I order you both to attack me. And I will say when I have had enough." Sara braced herself again and waited for it.

That was the breaking point for Henry. "Oh now you're asking for it ma'am, If you want to look like you were in a warzone, you need to be shot too," Henry took out his laser pistol and shot Sara in the shoulder then followed it up with a pistol whip in the head. "Alright if that doesn't look like I'm following my orders I don't know what does!" This woman was a serious opponent, as a master in words and with determination rivaled by none. Henry didn't want to do anything with her at all but now it seemed he was caught in the entire thing. He wished that the colonel would just come in and end this whole nightmare. "I swear if the Brotherhood doesn't kill me this entire Enclave drama sure will,"

Sara lay on the floor not moving. She was trying to decide what hurt more. The searing pain in her shoulder, or the gouge in her head, which now had blood running from it. It was fortunate that the laser had cauterized the wound it had inflicted, but Sara was still pissed, cause it could have killed her all the same. Sara lay on her stomach and was able to roll herself over using her good arm. She pushed herself into a sitting position, the other arm hanging limp at her side. The smell of seared flesh greeting her nostrils. Sara now felt a little wobbly from the blow to the head. Sara sat still for a few moments, her head hung low. Her determination starting to rise. Slowly, Sara pushed herself to her feet. She was about to give Henry [censored] for shooting her, when she realized, he did have a point. As she raised her head to look at Henry, she could feel herself wavering. She also realised that her eye was starting to swell form Demetri's blow Taking a moment she smiled.

"I think one shot will suffice. But I didn't say stop. You would think that your mother being a Brahmin would make you smarter and more attentive. What with the two heads and all." Sara's vision started to blur slightly. It appeared that the blow to the head had done a little damage. Perhaps a concussion. But it wasn't enough, she needed more. She pushed herself to focus and leered at Henry.

"Sure you can take more Ma'am?" Demetri asked, "If we hit you anymore you won't be much use to do anything." Demetri knew his first punch wasn't as strong as he could do, but he had risked doing alot of damage to Sara's head if he did so, and it seemed sufficent enough in the first place, but the laser shot from Henry must of been more painful then what ever he could do with his hands. Sara was sitting down, meaning she had taken a rather big beating already.

Demetri shook his head, this women was insane, Demetri had never even taken this much punishment in a battle, a few bullet wounds and one laser burn. Demetri moved his left arm around a bit as it came to the front of his mind,he had been in pain for weeks after that shot and had to take Med-x for quite some time after. "Ma'am I doubt you should carry on," Demetri said to Sara, "You're risking serious damage if you do so."

"I agree not everyone that escapes us has to be that badly injured, in fact, if you're that badly wounded the Brotherhood is going to wonder how you even got away Ma'am." She had to be insane and have a will of iron to not only take it but to keep on asking for more! The worst part was that she could execute him if she disobeyed her orders. So Henry quietly asked a runner to ask the colonel what they should do. Sara was a bit disorientated and he doubted that she could hear what he said. Looking at Sara Henry said "if you're going to keep on doing this you should do this outside, get cut up on rubble and dirt, it'll look like you've been running and falling. it'll be less dangerous than this."
