The Horn of Summonings

Is there any information on just what it is that this artifact does? The main reference I found was in The Real Barenziah but never noticed what it did exactly...

It's a fairy tale, part of a legend. Barenziah and Nightingale never found the Horn of Summoning, they found the Staff of Chaos - which Nightingale was after.

Are there bychance any mentions of what it does in these fairy tales, because I noticed that they were especailly glad that Tharn didn't get the Horn but weren't really worried about the Staff...

So, instead of the horn of summoning, they got the staff of banishing.

Seems like they found the exact opposite of what they were looking for.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but considering its short and my post still pertains to the question I'll continue; besides, its my thread, so :frog:

I was reading in http://www.imperial-library.info/dfbooks/b101_complete_barenziah.shtml and two things popped out at me:
-The first is that Symmachus says: "Tiber Septim claimed the Horn, but left the Staff for safe-keeping. Nightingale can use the Staff to sow seeds of strife and dissension, if he wishes, yet that alone will not gain him power. That lies with the Horn and the ability to use it." It also says that "He knew the Staff lay there, not the Horn, and that he must teleport to safety, for the Staff is not a weapon that would have seen him clear, unlike the horn."

So can this be taken as valid that Tiber Septim took the Horn and used it to gain power in some way? Also, what's up with the Staff sowing 'seeds of strife and dissension'? I'm not sure whether to take "seen him clear" as just 'gotten him away' or as 'allowed him to escape by killing everybody'; it seems it should be more than just 'gotten him away' since either way he could teleport out.

-The second is that Barenziah calls the Staff, "The Staff of Unity and Chaos". What's up with that?

And @proweler: How does that the Horn wasn't there when it wasn't even supposed to be there prove that the Horn was a legend?

That's how I read it. As for what it does, I assume it summons something.

"Tharn used this item to destroy my corporeal form when I tried to warn the Council. He knew that the Staff of Chaos was nigh indestructable, having been made from the essence of the Land itself. But in that he found the key. As the land is split, so did he shatter the Staff into eight perfectly formed pieces. These he scattered across the realm. "

As a symbol of a land often called the "Arena" and a reflection of its state, I guess "The Staff of Unity and Chaos" is a good enough title for it. Just a guess.

Empedocles' philosophy on 'love' and 'strife' being two base forces of the universe which bind things together and separates them comes to mind; that all things never stop continually changing, either they're uniting in love or being taken apart by strife. The same thing could be applied to Nirn at its base metaphysics, just apply the same concept and change 'love' to 'unity' and 'strife' to 'chaos'; perhaps the staff, being created from the essence of the land draws upon these qualities...
