The idea of having different bounties in different holds?

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 10:35 pm

If you don't know, holds are different "counties" of Skyrim, and there are 8 or 9 (can't remember).

So, do you like this idea, or would you rather your bounty cover all of Skyrim?

Somewhere in-between, I think, depending on what my crimes are. Not having instant universal bounty if I touch an apple is a good thing, but I feel a criminal wanted for murdering an entire town should have a degree of notoriety elsewhere. Like a thief might be wanted locally for multiple robberies, a murderer gets their wanted poster up in the next town over, and a serial-killer or someone who kills/robs a high-profile target (like killing a count, or robbing the equivalent of those vaults in Vivec) is Public Enemy #1.

I like that we have a different bounty amount for each province, but hopefully after a while of committing particularly heinous crimes, guards from other areas begin to hear about your deeds and the bounty from one province will spread to others. Like if you murder 15 people in Whiterun then leave for Windhelm, you'll have a few days of no bounty before messengers arrive to tell the local guardsman to look out for a homicidal maniac with your appearance.

That is a great idea. The higher your bounty in a hold, the farther the bounty is in effect. Does this mean that getting your bounty dropped through the thieves guild has to happen individually for each county you have a bounty in?

Love the idea of being able to escape across the border after commiting the crime..

Nice to see different laws in different parts of the provinces

Easiest way would probably just be having the option to choose how much you pay for the service. Some for each county, plus extra for travel fees, or handle it yourself one at a time.

I think the regional bounties will pertain specifically to the law enforcement in each Hold. I think with the faction/questline interactions (like in Morrowind) that our crimes against a faction of mages in Hold A may or may not matter to a faction of mages in Hold B. And Hold A and Hold B might be enemies or allies. Basically: kill a mage in Hold A, then move to Hold B. The law enforcement of Hold B might not care about your crimes in Hold A if they are enemies, but a mage in Hold B might want to kill you (if part of the same faction as the mage you killed in Hold A). See what I mean? No more psychic guards but more faction-affecting actions (again, like in Morrowind).

Voted 'Other' so as to not give you credit for this idea. I'm pretty sure they mentioned somewhere that they are doing regional bounties.

I agree with everything in this quoted post. I love the new bounties in each hold, but if I commit murders in one hold, within a week game time, it should be reported to neighboring holds. It should flow out in a circular radius from the hold where the crime is committed, gradually over time. Also if one hold hates a certain hold where I've committed murders they should maybe not care if I killed in their enemies hold, and actually like me for killing their enemies.

I hated how the guards had a hive-mind in Oblivion so I rather look forward in to being able to keep a low profile if I play as a criminal. But if I do something particularly noteworthy like burning down a village or something I should be considered a public menace.

i like this. word shouldnt spread across the entire province of me striking a guard or stealing a ink well. murdering an entire small village however that should spread between the holds because well just that i murdered an entire town.

This is arguably one of the top brilliant features of Skyrim. I just hope they fixed the "stolen" loot recognized by the traders as well and the bloody [censored] guards who are like superpsychos.

who's honestly going to dislike the idea of different bounties in different regions.........and seriously want how it was in Oblivion? the only step further I see is if im a real bad person wrecking villages, I should be atleast somewhat known in other areas

As a thieve/assassin character, I'm loving the idea! Now I'm less inclined to reload after every witnessed crime.

As often happens (or at least as often as you post, which isn't often enough, IMO) since Rhekarid already responded, I pretty much don't have to do anything other than agree.

This is just what I'd prefer. It makes sense that if you commit a minor crime, the only people who are going to be concerned about it are the locals, but if you commit a serious crime, word's going to spread, and the more serious the crime, the further it will spread. I'd only add that I'd like to see that process happen at a reasonable pace as well - that is, certainly no faster than it would take for some official to say that the next town over needs to know about this, some messenger to make the trip to that next town, and the information to be given out. Even if it was a horrible crime that gains nationwide notoriety, it should take some time for the word to spread.
