The idea of peaks and vally's

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 6:05 pm

So has anyone realized that we are all going to have good times followed by bad ,and that no matter what the bad things go away as do the good? Haven't we all had something ridiculous happen that ruins our day.Despite our best efforts something will go wrong eventually so with that said could this pattern seemingly be broken by setting ourselves up to fail, but with a foreseeable way to fix this problem.Am I crazy for thinking like this?

Eww. Fate. Thanks, but no thanks. Don't believe in fate really, things happen for no reason whatsoever, bad things or good things can happen to anyone at anytime for any reason.

I can't ever quite wrap my head around this idea - if things happened for a "reason", then what is the reason behind a kid getting, say, leukemia?

Or two people, living life in identical ways(morally), and one person has nothing but good things happen to them, never suffering a major hardship in their entire life, while the other person has nothing but bad things happen to them their entire life.

Or an evil person, hurting people, even murdering them, and never gets caught, never suffers the consequences, but an Good person lives their life helping others, never saying an unkind word to someone else, but suffers tragedy after tragedy.

Where is the "Reason" in that? No, I'm sorry, but the universe, or life if you'd prefer is arbitrarily good, and cruel. It doesn't pick and choose. things don't happen for a reason, they just happen.

Not trying to enter the main debate. The root of tragedy isn't loss, but growth, circumstances aside.

How would you be able to appreciate good times if you didn't experience bad times also....the point being is that you wouldn't know the difference.
That is, we wouldn't know "good times" if we didn't have bad times in our experience to compare it to.
In addition, there are so many things beyond our immediate control...like other people's actions and things breaking....
Unfortunate experiences develop character...including and especially patience and perseverance....and teach us to savor the good times.

[edit] No, you are not crazy. Contemplating the warp and woof of life with it's peaks and valleys is perfectly normal.
It's not something people like to discuss at a party or something, but life is more than a big party.

This post is really hard not to bring religious views into!

but good things will happen, and bad things will happen. We just got to make sure that the bad things don't bring us down.

There is a good quote that I sort of live by. It's more of a reminder for me to keep living life even when bad things happen and seem to happen more then the good things.

"Misfortune comes to all people, but we have the choice to either accept it or dwell and live in it forever."

Something along those lines anyway. We always have a choice. and I know things can just get super bad at points, but we just need to keep moving and keep going even though things just seem impossible.

I don't believe in Karma, good luck, bad luck, magial beings who predestine our lives, or silly superstions. It seems that sadly, the actuality of good being rewarded with an pleasness in life is not common. It is a messge of fables designed to keep the masses well behaved. Life is arbitrary,

Far too many so called "morally superb" folks get caught doing immoral things, and get off with time served or a slap on the wrist. Far too many "morally superb" people have found it lucrative to spread their own brand of conveniently tax free ideals of how humans should behave without practicing what they preach.
Far to many honest people suffer tragedy after tragedy, affliction after affliction, and it never occurs to them to break the golden rule or fleece their fellow man. Or to profit from the suffering of others.

[censored] happens, it's how we deal with what happens that matters.

Life is a random series of events. Any indication to the contrary is humans looking for meaning that isn't there.

I tend to set the bar low that way I'm not so dissapointed when my expectations are not met :)

Also I'm sort of a believer in fate more because I need something to blame my many misfortunes on :P

I live my life by "[censored] happens"

You can not predict what will happen, and when things do happen, you can't really explain it.

Things happen for a reason, even if we cannot comprehend, understand, or find the reason rather bad.

i didnt mean it in a fate way, its hard to explain.
i mean, every action has a reaction.
like i said, i cant really explain it.

but to your dying kid thing, it does happen for a reason, you dont just get cancer, it happens because of your genes not because its pre-determined, some things we just dont have control over.

Ah, I did not quite understand where you were coming from. I thought you meant it in a fate kind of way.

My thought is that you can't change the past, and you can't know the future, so it's no use wondering about either. Just take things as they come and deal with them as they come to the best of your ability, one day, one hour, one minute at a time. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad.

Don't let yourself assume a situation that's not really all that bad is some horrible thing only because it followed something good.

But hey, I also realized that nobody on this planet really has any idea what they're doing, and don't let them fool you either because some are really good at looking like they know what they're doing. :P
