The Idiots Guide to The Summit And File Planet

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 11:02 pm

Another bump for the thread that should be mandatory reading for all people who download Morrowind mods.

But, but, why would they want to read something that would tell them exactly what they wanted to know, and is easily found in a search, when they could, even easier, post a thread about fileplanet wanting money, and have someone ELSE practice their threadomancy, and link them right to it?

I was wondering where this thread got off to, I just answered one of these questions today......

To find the thread quickly, I just do a search using the term "idiot" :D Works like a charm.

NEW INFO REGARDING FILEPLANET LOGIN

The old login provided by Mori no longer works. I've setup a new account at Fileplanet.

Login: tes_mods@hotmail.com
Password: morrowindmods

Please be considerate with the login. Log out manually when you are done and don't abuse it. It's for everyone. I've edited http://www.freewebs.com/cornflakes1847/guide.htm to reflect this change.

Mind if I fix it up and share with the oblivionites? As their constant "But I don't want to pay for Fileplanet." Is like a million times worse than it was ever here. I wouldn't included the shared login though, they don't deserve it.

[rant]It would be nice if everyone here would stop acting like the Morrowind community is the superior community, even though it probably is. Not all oblivion players and modders (!) are complete morons. IMO Oblivion doesn't deserve to be called a good sequel to Morrowind, but it's a nice action/adventure game (with rpg elements). It's a shame that it attracts a large amount of immature kids, but that doesn't mean the entire (modding) community is like that.
[/rant]
I agree on the shared login though. A new one could be created for them, though I wouldn't be suprised if it indeed was abused.

W00t. Even I am getting fed up with endless "I don't want to pay for Fileplanet" complaints. Is it really that hard to understand?

I know, I know, ancient thread. Which is why I'm bringing it back. Newbies really need to see this.

http://www.freewebs.com/cornflakes1847/guide%2Dupdate2.html for those who haven't seen it. I've made quite an update to it.

I still feel this should be pinned, so that we don't have to continuously bump it. Seeing as how this thread is reaching the 200 post limit, I feel a mod should close this thread so a new one can be started.

OK, it's been seven months since the last post here, so I'm not sure how the mods will take to me resurrecting this thread. However, there are still people who aren't fully aware of the download methods used by Planet TES. I streamlined the guide a bit and uploaded it http://mangatang.webs.com/guide.html. My old link is no longer valid; that web page was deleted. If this thread needs to be closed, I'll be happy to start a new one with the updated info. Though, rather, there's a greater number of Oblivion players who need to see this, not just Morrowind users, so maybe it'll be better to start a thread in the Oblivion Mods forum. :shrug:

Does any of this information resemble anything in the FAQ pinned at the top of the forum?

Not really, no. I didn't find anything in the FAQ detailing the issue with free registration on FilePlanet. The FAQ has links to mod sites such as Planet TES, but that's the only time it touches on that subject, from what I can see. Either that, or I skim too fast.

I don't see what the trouble is. It is about as complicated as registering for an email account.

The issue that arises is that people think you have to subscribe to FilePlanet in order to download mods; they don't realize that it's as simple as a free registration. You would think it was always that simple, but people don't always realize that.

EDIT: Master Sam beat me to it. Grrrrr. :P

Mostly no - perhaps with the exception of how to install certain file formats. This thread helps with the issues that people have concerning Planet Elder Scrolls (formerly Morrowind Summit) and downloading the files at Fileplanet. Lots of people mistake the idea that you need to pay to download the mods rather than just get a simple free account...this thread really needs to be stickied.

Hey some of the links in the FAQ for Morrowind sites should be changed too since many of them don't exist anymore.

Fileplanet is part of Gamespy who are a known spyware company. They sell that information to the highest bidder.

I find many spyware programs roam the internet on they own that try to download thenself. I find AOL is the biggest seller of E-mail address and more spyware trying to download thenself.

Cornflake's web version of this guide appears to no longer be available.

Did anyone else upload it in HTML or archive it somewhere that can be linked to?

You can pull CornFlake's version from the Web Archive;

The full thread is in Yacoby's ES Archive;
