The Idiots Guide to The Summit And File Planet

You shouldn't need to push the back button - the line-up should still be there even after the change in adds. Just ignore the adds - unless they've changed things - in which case just ignore me. ;)

the only complaint I have about file planet is when I am waiting for the mod download page to upload, it gets hijacked by an ad. Now I don't mind being hijacked twice or three times. It is free to me. However I have spent 15 minutes pressing the back button to get to my download page.
However I am not complaining to loudly. The mods hosted are usually high quality and its free. Here is a woot to file planet and summit!

Btw I have never had any problem downloading from the summit.

That sounds odd. I sometimes have to click (once) to get through an ad to get TO the DL page but have never had that happen. You sure you don't have some sort of adware on your rig?

Over the past few weeks, I've seen many threads about how Morrowind Summit http://www.rpgplanet.com/morrowind/index.asp is transferring them to FilePlanet http://www.fileplanet.com/ which is a major game hosting site. Some of you think that FilePlanet is a paid service, which it is not. But you DO have to sign in (or sign up) to download mods, which I do believe tessource does the same thing, so its not entirely unheard of. To sign up with FilePlanet (free) click on login--not Subscribe Now--and on the right it should let you sign up. You can also sign up with Morrowind Summit, which allows you to use that screen name on File Planet. You can also use this https://v3.gamespyid.com/fileplanet/index.aspx?siteid=6&returl=http://www.fileplanet.com/gsidscript_new.aspx?fpr=http%3a%2f%2fwww.fileplanet.com%2f to sign up for free. NOTE: fileplanet also has paid services (which many people confuse with being the only option)

Now, since you've signed up and logged in (cookies must be enabled), go find the mod you want to download. Click on download. It should open a popup with a some links to queue lines. Scroll down past the premium servers, and click on one of the free servers. Most of the time you wont have to wait for morrowind mods, but sometimes you do. when you click on the link, it should open another popup with either the queue line, or the download link. If its the download link, just click it and you've begun downloading! If its the queue line, click on Wait in Line, and wait. when its your turn to download, click the download link (it should automatically start downloading if you don't click on the link after 60 seconds of the download being ready.) YOUR DONE!
To unzip .rar, you'll need WINRAR (google it) or ZIPGENIOUS
TO unzip .zip, you'll need WINZIP or ZIPGENIOUS or WINRAR
To unzip .ace, you'll need WINACE, or ZIPGENIOUS or WINRAR
To unzup .7z, you'll need 7zip or WINRAR
Since some people can't sign up, I made a login for everyone to use (don't abuse, its for everyone):

username: tescommunitylogin@yahoo.com
password: morrowindmods

im not sure itll work if multuple people are logged in at the same time, but im not sure. log out when your done, just to be safe.

Please bump this thread up so that people can see it.

I've found that clicking on the FREE USERS one lets me download mods perfectaly, and I haven't signed up.

Regarding wait times on File Planet:

I download at different times of day, different days of the week and I rarely, if ever have to wiat using the Free Servers. Of course, I dont DL the big, highly anticipated mods the second they are available either. I think I waited 3 months or more before gettting WI and the only wait I had then was the obvious 30-40 mintes of actual DL time. But most mods I've downloaded, and I can honestly say ALL of the DL's in the past two weeks ( about 30 of them) have been No Waiting. Not for a second.
This was not always the case, but as of late it has been par for me to DL 3 mods at a time with Zero wait time. Perhaps it's just my odd waking hours or my taste in mods :P

that is becuase Fileplanet hosts the Summit files on a different server, allowing them to stay w/o wait for the most part.

I'm thinking of converting this to HTML to put on my website. If this is OK with you, though. The first thing I put in there was that I take credit for none of it. All goes to you (and others who contributed).

I know, it seems pretty basic. I'm just getting started with a web design class, so I don't know all the 'cool' stuff, yet. IF that's what you want to call it.

It'd be nice if they did.

There's just one thing I don't understand - even at my most noobishness I was able to figure out the free download but wait in line part

I'm beginning to become convinced that Nierra just may be right :o

i believe that you wait in line so that their servers aren't overloaded with the thousands of downloads going on at the same time. thats what happened to tesmods...

Right - and it's not a problem. And, even more importantly, it's not difficult to find the 'free' area.

QUOTE(Niarra)
FilePlanet has 2 different levels of download service. The really fast, no waiting servers for paid subscribers, and the slower, might have to wait in line free servers.
One reason for registering and logging in is so they know what service you've signed up for.

I didn't realize that my screen name was so hard to spell...... :P
