The wisps and clickings of crossbow fire hissed through the air. The Dres in loose formation and out of sight would provide poor targets but precautions were taken. Keeping with the Velothian Tradition the Dres maintained an avid study of conjuration and dealings with Daedra. Momentary cuirasses and tower shields were provided by the otherworld via the Arcane ability of each rider. Arvas felt the clinks and bangs of the bolts striking the Daedric shield. His horse neyed loudly as it was struck in the side, a glancing blow at an angle and slowed down by the composite lammelar armor made for protecting against missiles. Though the Dres had to cease their barrage the crossbow bolts were in large part ineffective landing harmlessly on the ground, striking the bound armor. An unlucky few recieved their end while others had been wounded. Arvas considered the trade off as acceptable and continued.

Thats not how it would work out.

armed with their trump card: the arbalest. The arbalest has a maximum force of 5,000 pounds force, enough to rip through ebony, adamant or even Daedric armour.

Taken from the Crownsworn profile. They wouldn't be bouncing off the Bound shields home diggitty dog. And their max range was never 500 feet, it was 500 meters. That would shred your peeps, not bounce off harmlessly on the ground, or just hurt your a horse a bit, with respect to its armor.

Bound items, they can't be dropped. I mean we can keep the arrows that have never been mentioned before, and just become better as time passes, but these two things were the main issue, especially the Arbalest part.

Also, volley fire shouldn't be an issue, unless you mean firing in the air so bolts can "rain down" on you, which is not what their doing.

Their aiming at you, considering the force and range, it shouldn't be an issue on their side at all.

I'm going to have to agree with Story on this one. A crossbow holds a lot of punch behind it, far more than the average armor. While it would quite likely pierce even Daedric armor, I must stress that in my opinion the piercing would be minimal. The most you'd get is a punch about half way through the metal, so the shield would be rather deadly to the wielder with all those poking out spikes pointing towards the user.

Mind, I don't think the penetration would be massive, if it happened at all. Daedric is an UNNATURALLY strong armor. Just plain ebony, you'd likely get a few bolts piercing fatally, a few pathetically, and some none if hitting at the wrong angle.

Regardless, Story brings up a good point, that just wasn't very realistic Immortal.

It would likely cripple the horse, too.

I hate having to be the stickler for details mayne, I mean...I thought I'd deserve a bit more credit then that :biglaugh:

These are 5,000 pound windlass Arbalests, so its not as if I have the militia shooting their standard crossbows at you, its the best crossbowmen, with the best of their weapon, and your far "into" their range.

You do have quite a few advantages concerning terrain, your position, and my position, I'll give you that. Right now we're in a slaughterhouse, and like Frank said, their not guaranteed to pierce through everything, but there is going to be breaches, and lots of force slamming into you.

Happy belated Soyaluna and Dongzhi to our Chinese and Hopi friends (got to love December).

Change of plans. But what I do need people to do (if you want) since SoS is slow in pace is join here:

http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=935929&st=0&start=0

It's in the timeline with a more adventure play style as being the main focus. It just needs people or it won't work. I could use some Morag Tong and dedicated good writers which you are.

Yeah...so wolf of the rose field....catchy title but definitely not non-linear. Call it the Red headed step sister of SoS.

Yeah, I saw that. Was going to join the prologue but then my totally awesome landsknecht mercenary undercover Morag Tong went down the pipe due to the fact I realized I didn't want to RP an assassin.
