here's all the info we got from Immortal
So we've got alot of new people since my last rant about High Rock so I thought I should do a new one and ask people's opinion. Now this is a VERY basic version of the story. Like with SoS i'm going to provide a bit of a back story, provide some sides of the issue to resolve and give people goals. This seems to be a very simple method in making a successful RP. I use alot of real world examples but don't let it be a turn off. It's just discriptive. Redguards are japanese/arabic/persian. Bretons are english/mostly french. Nords are...well nords. Imperials are Romans (sort of...) etc. Just discriptive.
So basically Elysana, Queen of Wayrest has actually managed (through methods not much unlike Helseth's) to unite Wayrest under her rule. Now it isn't a complete rule, but very much like the French fuedal system. Every ruler has their own plot of land but they swear loyalty to the Queen. Well Elysana seeing that the Empire is faltering has decided to make her claim for the throne. This didn't sit very well with the Nords who repelled some Bretonic advances on their lands of Skyrim who semi unified some of their western tribes and decided to purge the "half elves" from their lands and seeing how that went pretty well have decided to invade Highrock itself in an attempt to claim the Empire for their own but also remake their old empire of centuries long gone.
The powerful although thin stretched Aldmeri Dominion see this as a chance to invade their old elven lands of High Rock and have amassed hordes of goblins, ogres and trolls to do so. Daggerfall being on the far western side of High Rock and not particulary enjoying playing second fiddle to Wayrest have decided to become a vassal of the Aldmeri Dominion embracing their elven side. Along with this the Direnni elves have also thrown in their lot with the Aldmeri Dominion in an attempt to reclaim what they see as their lost lands also.
So Elysana's High Rock is seeing a two front war. Ironically the very same two fronts that crush her kingdom also save her because both the Nords and the Aldmer know the bulk of the Bretonic forces are still fairly intact and whoever makes a push to break the Bretons will be left weak enough for the third player to sweep in and take all.
Example: The Nords smash the forces of Elysana but sustain heavy casualties and are over run by the Aldmeri Dominion.
So really the RP starts during an unofficial truce, a peace, albiet tense. On a political/military level you are left with many options in fullfilling whatever goal you may choose. Each faction will have a top commander. Now whoever this person is doesn't HAVE to be the ranking big head in said faction but simply to help me run the RP. Just how in SoS Storyteller is the head of the Redguards and Duval the head of the Imperials. Septimus may be rotting with his ragaty ass face in the back of a cart but i still send most people for his approval when they want to join that faction.
Now the three main factions on the macro level (political/military) will be the Aldmeri Dominion, the Elysana's Kingdom of High Rock and the Nordic Alliance. Now by far the Breton Fuedal Kingdoms have the highest amount of mobility concerning on which way they want to play it. Some will look favorably upon their new rulers (Elves/Nords) and as such those Bretons will also have to do their best to play up that heritage. For example Daggerfall is going to do quite a bit of elven favorable propaganda concerning the ethnogenesis of the Bretons where as in the east it will be favorable towards the Nords. There can also be Breton lordships that are neither loyal to any of the 3 major factions. A Warning, I DON'T want everybody flocking to these "rogue" roles for a few good reasons. The major one is that Elysana will be screwed completely and we'll lose our unique balancing act. The next is that it'll be pretty hard to RP from a political, military and writeable point of view. Next, we have a limited amount of people so I need people to play roles in these 3 major factions/loyalties.
Now this is my 2 cents concerning the military style of each nation. This is more for fun and you can take the suggestion or leave it, completely up to you. I envision the Aldmeri Dominion a bit like the Chinese pre Yuan dynasty. Even as far back as Qin Empire. That is refering more so on the missile troops. You will have outstanding Bosmer archers. Of course you will also have powerful mages but all of these will be the creme de le creme of your forces. The larger bulk will probably be goblins, trolls and even a few ogres which will be more or less used as meat shields while you bombard with spell and arrow your enemy from afar. Of course you can also make use of elven infantry and cavalry but this won't be their strongest suit. I'll be involving the Sun Birds in High Rock more so but this will depend on the opinion of you the writers.
Next I envision the Bretons to be like the medieval French armies being made up of heavy steel plated cavalry with all their ornate shining armors, heavy lances and knightlyness. Little well known lore fact, the Bretons also have a long history of archery. So a bit like english longbows. Where you will lack strength is probably infantry but that depends on how the Orc's loyalties will be played out. Also of course the Bretons will have great defensive mages.
Next the Nords who are probably the most varied. I imagine them based on anything from the Scotts with their pikes to the Danes, Swedes, Vikings with their axes and longswords and Huscarls to the Rus with their heavy javalin cavalry and even the Germanic Gothic Knights. There are also the vikingesque long boats, raiding of the coasts things of that nature.
Now QUESTION FOR YOU. How do you guys thing I should do troop numbers? Here are some of the options i've conisdered:
1. Set numbers. Each faction gets a set number and after the person sends the character sheet they are sent over to the leader of said faction which will distribute the numbers to the ranks below.
2. Each faction gets X amount of troops based on how many cities they hold. This one is a bit cold and RP-esque because different cities will have different attitudes. Maybe Daggerfall Bretons will die for the Aldmer but not the next village over.
3. Each faction has its own distinct way of gaining troops. For example the Aldmer will arrive to High Rock with X amount of troops. Bcause the Aldmeri Dominion is stretched from Breton to Khajiit realms they will rarely get reinforcements and based on tough goals, they will however start with a large pool of Goblins/Ogres/Trolls.
The Nords will start with a smaller number then the Aldmer but will more quickly replenish their troop numbers because of the distance of Skyrim to High Rock. Again a goal method would be implemented. Example: "Capture of Northpoint has rallied the northern coastal raiding tribes to the cause of Skyrim's reconquest."
The Bretons will have the smallest numbers and divided amongst each fuedal Lord with numbers depending on city's prominence and the Lord's leadership. Because the Bretons would live off of their own land and in close proximity to their people and lands they will be able to replenish their troops the fastest.
Just a heads up. I'll be probably RPing Elysana and even though i'll be a head of one of the top factions, i'll lead the Bretons but a bit more of a distant leadership. I kind of hoped to have a more neutral side line role like i do in SoS but it seems everyone is in a hurry to betray the poor queen. Yea try it now! In any case the Bretons will be the most de-centralized faction but because I still am part of that faction i wont be snooping in everyone's business quite so much. I'll be relying on my Aldmer and Nordic heads to keep the order on their respective sides.
So anyway I had some questions. Does anyone have any good lore information about Elysana? She'd be half Dunmer half Breton correct? Would anyone know her age? Does she seem likley that she would lead in battle, this is a bit inspired by the Wolf Queen amongst other things. Does she have a husband? Children?
==================================================
I made a bit of a line because I know some people get turned off by the whole military aspect. And many people were confused with SoS considering it to be a military RP. Non sense I add all elements instead of limiting the RP. If you want to RP a full blown adventurer you can. And here is what I was thinking for that:
I have a bit of a vision to bring an academy role type to this RP. A bit like the arcane academy but more focused. This will be played out as mercenaries. Now before you go "aw no he's tricking us more military stuff!" Hear me out. The back story to these "mercenaries" is that a retired veteran Legion spellsword with quite a bit of influence has managed to divert funds from the Arcane academy to his little project and it payed out. He has unearthed an elven ruin and has turned it into a sort of Battlespire turning it into an academy where people are trained in the arcane and mundane as specialist. That's right, you aren't rank and file mercenaries, but specialists in your field in groups of 3 to 5. So there will be heavy character to character type interaction.
You live at the academy and you are provided with a sallery based on your rank as well as bonuses upon completion of the task. So it's kind of like a mixture of the Mages and Fighters Guild but with more style. It'll have a bit of a class room setting and you'll be starting out as a student a few weeks/months away from graduation. And then you basically are provided with jobs that can range from investigating murders to hunting dangerous criminals to espionage, sabotage, assassination, escorting nobility, and yes if you want even rank and file military type jobs. I've thought up of very many ideas concerning this already. It'll sound alot more fleshed out once I write it all out.
Other adventure roles wills include the Necromancers who are still loyal to the Worm god. I havn't fleshed this out but I think FC4 had quite an idea. I'm welcome to other suggestions too.
Wow it got late. I'ld go on a bit more but I think this is enough for now. I look forward to your thoughts and suggestions. Hell even if you think it's a horrible idea and you won't be joining up let me know and tell me why.
