The Impact of Assassination

Post » Tue Sep 11, 2012 2:48 am

If you've finished the DB quest line you know it ends with you killing the emperor, but as you also know you can kill the person who contracted you to do this. This means (almost certainly) that these people will have died during Skyrim's time frame. What do you think the implications will be for future lore? Why do you think the contract was established in the first place? Simple power grab, or is there a deeper conspiracy?

I'll just give a two word opinion: Emperor Rexus.

Typical power struggle. We're about to see the birth of a new empire if all this symbolism means anything. Skyrim legion(Or what's left of it in the event of a stormcloak victory) will be called back to IC to restore order, Thalmor may decide to resume hostilities. Leader of the victorious civil war side manages to gain control over the Imperial City. Without any real leader, the other legions fall behind this new figurehead and try to form a counter attack against the thalmor incursion. Things will come to a head when suddenly [RECORDS LOST] and the thalmor are defeated a second time.

Imperitrix-Jarl Elisif

Imperator Tulius Stormcloak the Dragonborn

Mede II is not a well liked Emperor. Him being assassinated isn't something totally out of the left field.

I'd also disagree with Mortierre killed being the canon decision (if indeed the assassination happens, which I'm not convinced it will).

For one, the Dark Brotherhood takes their contracts very seriously and does not do business in that way. Just because Titus Mede asked the DB Assassin to kill the contracter doesn't mean it will happen and almost certainly will not.

The Dark Brotherhood's survival financially depends on the trust forged when a contract is made. Trust that ensures:

1. They will kill the target and
2. That they won't harm the individual who contracted unless forced to (otherwise that wouldn't be good for business and nobody would want to do the black sacrament).

And in return for both these things they get paid.

So I would say it is possible that Mortierre may become the next Emperor if he has the correct connections.

It's also worth noting that the Motierre looks different from the first time you meet with him. There is a slight possibility that he has put a double in his place, for whatever reason.

The Medes are going to be footnotes in Tamriel history, they won't be the 4th Empire but simply some guys who ruled parts of what was once the Empire.
Tullius, Ulfric and the Dragonborn are setting the stage for a new Empire by mantling Talos.

Or at least that's roughly how I'd see it.

I wasn't trying to imply a "canon decision", but usually when there is an optional quest to kill someone they are said to have died under mysterious circumstances by the next game so that it could go either way.
