The Inconvenience of Enchanted Weapons

Post » Wed Jul 06, 2011 9:41 pm

There have been numerous complaints about the difficulty and inconvenience of recharging enchanted weapons, to the point that some are considering completely ignoring them. Do you think Oblivion's system is so drastically flawed that should have been changed for Skyrim? Personally I felt that recharging was a trifling dilemma in Oblivion as one could either hoard Varla Stones or keep Azura's Star and add a soul trap effect to weapons for easy soul harvesting, but the system has received quite a bit of criticism and definitely had some flaws. What do you think?

Enchanting was fine. People are lazy. Beth stupidly removed natural recharge.

Main arguments there.

Don't care. At all. Varlas stones were easy to use.

I enjoyed soul trapping creatures and using their energy to recharge my weapons in Oblivion, glad it's like that in Skyrim too

I agree, I didn't like switching between umbra/goldbrand. And umbra alone was too weak I was spoiled with goldbrand

I agree that it was irritating. Instead of kicking and back and enjoying the game, I would have to constantly look for new souls (considering how quickly the charge on Oblivion's enchanted weapons depleted) and it was just a tedious chore. I've played many fantasy RPGs and most handle enchanted weaponry far better. Even Morrowind's slow, automatic recharge would really help with the issue, but I seriously am going to ignore the recharging, at least mostly, in Skyrim if it's like Oblivion's. When I get a Daedric artifact, I should undoubtedly be happy, but knowing that the charge will simply run out quite quickly leaving me with something that only looks unique irritates me.

I think this is a bad decision. Having to recharge your enchanted items with soul gems means you have to use soul trap frequently, blocking one of your free hands, and you are required to level a skill (mysticism in earlier games, probably alteration or something like that) that has nothing to do with enchanting. I would have prefered natural recharge based on your enchanting skill level, or skills that consume your magicka to recharge items.

Yeah it was only a pain if you actually made a super powerful enchantment.

I almost never use enchanted weapons anyway, and when I do, I just used Varla stones anyway. It's not that hard, people.

I didn't think about that. This actually makes Skyrim's system... worse than Oblivion's...

i hated recharging enchanted weapons in oblivion. but................they needed to do it. in morrowind you could run around with several enchanted weapons and just cycle through them and if you used them all up just wait a couple of hours and they were all fully charged. it was way to easy to abuse so im glad that they kept oblivions system........still hate doing it but its a necessary evil in my eyes.

I think that the enchated weapons were a inconvienence for a reason.. there effects were usualy so good that it woud be way to over powered if they were too recharge... But like another poster said I wish they still had the natural recharge..

I found it obnoxious generally. I never knew how many varla stones would be around and Azura's stone wouldn't take human souls IIRC... so I largely ignored magical weapons and just enchanted armor. I would MUCH prefer a magical weapon that was just magical and didn't have "charges". I hate "charges".

Resource management is good. I'm glad they're keeping it, I just hope that they've improved the balance so that you don't have to recharge your sword after hitting someone ten times.

Idk about anyone else, but I've always felt a little weird stealing people's souls and using them to power my weapons... makes me feel like a real [censored].

It's not a big deal at all. People will just do 100 Fire 1 Second Of Soul Trap like Oblivion if the system's unchanged.

I didn't like this system so much in Oblivion, would have preferred natural recharge.

Well enchanting is a skill now so I'm sure with better skill= less need to recharge.

Continually reloading my magical weapons with ammo (which is what it boils down to) was a pain in the bottom in Oblivion. I preferred Morrowind's self-recharging enchanted items.

My gawd, of all things they keep the terrible recharging system, "worked great" were me and bethesda playing the same oblivion? it was [censored] annoying.

I don't really care, it got rid of the glow on the weapons. The glow never looked good to me.

I just put Soul Trap on a weapon. (Well, that and I didn't use weapons that chewed up 1600 energy in five swings.....)
