The increasingly poor decisions of Todd Howard

Post » Tue Aug 31, 2010 9:37 am

Todd is my favourite game developer. I trust him fully.
If you can no longer create spells, I'm sure it was for a good reason.

To say it was a poor decision, before actually knowing why (assuming it's even true that we can't create spells anymore), is not right in my opinion.

You know, hlvr, I just feel like...I feel like you get me. You understand. It makes me feel all warm inside.

I am glad Todd is in charge of the series, but a thought just popped into my head. What would have happened if Julian LeFay continued being the head honcho on Elder Scrolls products, instead? I'd still prefer Todd being in charge, no doubt, but what would have happened?

Who knows. What I will say is I think Todd has a lot to do with big innovations and crazy risks that BGS takes. Each TES to him seems to be another shot, another perspective, and another way of further progressing and making that perfect, immersive world. I think it's that kind of leadership that keeps BGS on top and interesting in the eyes of many.

I think Todd and the team are doing great, even though there is some concern because of lack of info or misinformation.
It's still my favorite game series. sure there are things I didn't like in Oblivion, more so than Morrowind, but at least we have a good modding community.

Would Todd have been in charge of that? He the project director for Redguard, right?

What happened to Julian, anyway? I literally can't find much of anything on him... let alone what happened after he left Bethesda... or why he left.

I absolutely disagree with this thread. I am a big fan of morrowind and oblivion, and at the same tome I think Todd Howard is taking TES in the direction it needs. I believe this game will be more fun than the previous games. But, it's all personal preference.

I'm pretty sure Julian was around for parts of Morrowind's development. He's in the credits (under a "Special Thanks" section if memory serves), and I think I heard something about him contributing to the Imperial Legion quest line. Don't know if he left of his own accord or something else. Personally I'm sure the world of game development isn't as romanticized as we all think it to be, and there's plenty of...completely logical reasons someone would...want to...step...out of it, even if they worked at %*#$ Bethesda?! DAMNIT JULIAN WHERE ARE YOU? :ahhh:

"Change is coming to the world. Some fear change and will fight it with every fiber of their being. But sometimes, change is what they need most. Sometimes, change is what sets them free."

Yes many things are changing away from traditional RPG lines in Skyrim, but instead of fearing it we should welcome it. Bethesda has crafted numerous games that are amongst the finest ever made and have lasted through the years.

I will judge when we have something more concrete to bite on. But regardless I trust Bethesda to craft another incredibly good game and I will buy Skyrim anyway.

True. But what did they ADD by cutting this? Better graphics ?

Living cities, with their own self-sufficient economies? Refined AI that behaves realistically within the world, reacting to the player's accomplishments? An overhauled combat system? Randomly generated quests to keep you busy with things to do?

Personally, I play the "they removed X to accommodate Y, a fair exchange" card all the time over Morrowind, but if anything I think I'm far more willing to overlook removed content for Skyrim because there really is a lot more to offer this time.

EDIT: Oh wait, were you being sarcastic? Your avatar bleeds professionalism. I'm confused now.

Everyone wants spears and crossbows. why did they decide not to put them in the game?. It just wastes time for modders who have to work around the animations made for the other weapons.

Well Todd is inspired by Conan lately so axes will rock and magic will probably svck. Last time he was inspired by LotR we got generic Tolkien, so now we get barbarians=1337.

Ever heard of the saying "don't bite off more than you can chew?" Bethesda wants to make a fine polished gem, not a big dull stone.

Adding spears and crossbows isnt verty hard at all. All they have to do is make a couple of animations for them and away you go.

Morrigan quote hurray!

That's one of the best things about Bioware, they always have some epic and profound lines.

Theres still enough time to change his dumb descisions. Its not like adding spears and crossbows would take more than a few hours.

If all else fails some one who has animation skills (im an animator but iv never animated for Oblivion) can do it easy enough.
