Really? Didn't know that.

Off the top of my head, theres Marobar Sul (dude who wrote the fictional Dwemer books), Arden Sul (aka Sheggy/Jyggy), Alandro Sul (Nerevar's sheildbearer), and Sul-Matuul (Urshilaku ashkhan)

Maybe Sul is a reincarnation of one of these "Suls"?

Theres nothing to suggest this, so I'd say no. Its just a surname.

Considering the dark elf ancestor worship, reincarnation means they'd eventually just be worshipping themselves.

I've never thought of ancestor worship as actually 'worshipping' ones ancestors and more like celebrating their lives. Sort of like in mexico, with the whole day of the dead thing.

So I'm going to guess that after Umbriel tours through Cyrodill, its going to swing up to Skyrim.

Ew, I hope not. I hope that it causes a series of events that leads up to TESV, though. If Umbriel was in TESV, it would be like watching Julia Child in hell.

Not that I didn't like the book, though, but it just seems to have too much of a cooking sub-plot.

I got the book a few weeks ago (in Savannah. For all I know, I walked past Keyes on the street). Read it in one day, and it made my head hurt. It's hard to think of this as an Elder Scrolls novel, considering half of it is about cooking souls. Plus, the cliffhanger ending left me unsatisfied (I'm sure I'm not the only one).

I'm thinking that it'll likely get shown to us at about the September area, and released November like the last one. One year apart, then we get a good bi8t of closure and will have a pretty good idea of the direction Tamriel will be heading for TESV.

Well, I figured I'd resurrect this thread since Keyes gave an interview to the TIL staff. Still no word on the whithertos and why-fors, but in http://www.imperial-library.info/interviews-greg-keyes he does give some insight as to his early writing process and that at least one character lives through it (no telling which or how many, just that not everyone dies).

I'm just now starting to read the interview, but I have to say that the Imperial Library rules, as ever. Getting an interview with Greg Keyes . . . . Impressive.

What do you think will happen after the books ending?

I'm not sure that Sul will survive. Annaig will probably end up as Attrebus' bride, though she will be an equal partner for him. Vuhon will probably die; note that he's the only major character that has no interior life in the novel -- we're never shown his thoughts if I remember correctly. Attrebus will probably succeed his father Titus, though not immediately. I don't think the city of Umbriel will survive, but if it does (atop the ruins of the Imperial City, let's say), it will have lost its power, and will become just another city, though exotic.

Most likely. Honestly, he reminds me of Inspector Finch from V for Vendetta, just the guy who goes poking around while the main plot happens around him, and he discovers all of the little secrets that might be useful later on. He'll probably have a better role in the second book uncovering Vuhon's men on the inside. While he's not a key figure in the plot, he's a good way to learn about what the hell is going on.

As for all of this depressing talk about the enemy winning in the end because that's how real life works, I can tell you that you're wrong. Books aren't the real world, and the hero losing doesn't sell well. When the conflict of a book starts, you know how it's going to end. The reason you read it is for all of the interesting parts that happen in between that you can't predict.

What I really want to know about are the College of Whispers and the Synod. We probably won't have much insight until the second book or maybe even Elder Scrolls V, but I'm also really curious about why the Mages Guild dissolved.
I'd also like to know what happened to the Elder Council, why Ocato failed at holding the empire together, and how the secession process played out.

Well, time will tell I guess.

I hope Glim lives. He was the only person I liked in Umbra. Plus, POWER TO THE ARGONIANS!

This is what I hope happens, but don't exactly expect to:

-Vuhon succeeds and decides to land Umbriel right on top of the Imperial City, completely destroying it. The Empire, it's capital and it's government is no more. But somehow Attrebus defeats Vuhon and becomes the new Emporor of a new, severely weakened empire.

-Black Marsh completely annexes Morrowind and the name "Morrowind" is no longer on the map.

-The Aldmeri Dominion is restored and the name "Valenwood" is no longer on the map.

-With no Empire ruling over High Rock, Orsinium expands enough to be listed as it's own province on the next map.

Like I said, I doubt much of that will happen, but I really want it to.

I also hope Glim lives, he's a pretty likable character.

Valenwood is not longer Valenwood already, it's Thalmor.

Also, if Orsinium decides to expand, the redguards and bretons would be more than happy to enact genocide against the orsimer. Those humans really hate them.

Wait they changed the name to Thalmor? Don't recall reading that in the book, though it has been a while...

And like I said, I would really love for Orsinium to expand, but it's not likely for a number of reasons, that being one of them.

I also hope that Colin will live, because he's one of the better-written characters in the novel. He's had some of the more interesting scenes in the book, including talking to the ghosts of Attrebus' murdered companions. He will probably not only get back into favor with his organization but also rise within it.

Those are good points by Proditus, that we need to hear more about why the Mage Guild was split into two factions and what happened to Ocato and the Council. I've thought it was significant that you never see the Council during the game "Oblivion", only an empty chamber with Ocato sitting at the table. To me it was further evidence that the Council was running for cover (probably to protect their own estates) and couldn't be counted upon to lead the Empire. (Of course, there's a difference between gameplay and canon, so I'm probably reading too much into it.)

They didn't change the name to Thalmor, an organization of that name now controls the old Aldmeri Dominion, which seemed to be their goal since the first pocket guide came out.

I wonder, after fleeing the burning building what exactly is Colin's next move? He's obviously uncovered something bigger than even he expected so what do you guys think he'll go about doing now that he's on to something EPIC?

I still haven't found the damn book. No book stores I've been to around here carry it and it's quite frustrating. Unless I'm looking in the wrong spot. I'm looking under fantasy but I could not find it. Ugh.

NEVER! The Dunmer will reclaim their rightful land eventually, and the seas shall be red with lizard blood. Resdayn shall rise again!
