[WIP] The Instigator

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 11:39 am

Evening all,

Well, now that 1/3rd of the CS-related work on my new MOD is complete, I suppose that it's time to give it a bit of a promotional boost.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Simyaz/Newspaper01.jpg, is a deliberately controversial story-driven quest MOD focusing on Philosophy, Ideology and Sociology (bounded in elements of psychology, morality and even spirituality).

Backed by the co-development of Arilita, the guidence of Wizard of Thay, and the unparalleled acting talents of Persian Paladin and Ibsen's Ghost (Ibsen3), http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Simyaz/Newspaper01.jpg will combine similar storytelling styles to Malevolent and Tears of the Fiend, but with a focus on my favourite objective-discussion topics.

This is the sort of MOD where anyone who is unable to look at the context objectively (instead maintaining a subjective viewpoint) will simply fail to understand anything except the Malevolent-esque storytelling, ultimately missing the complex purpose of the MOD.

The MOD is divided into 3 parts:

I - What is the Instigator?
II - The Former Instigator.
III - The Instigator.

And -as iterated previously- Part I's CS-work is almost completed, which means that soon I will be forwarding the 52 A4 page script (for part 1 alone) to our voice actors to turn text into context. The completed MOD will incorporate all 3 parts upon release.

You can view the Black Horse Courier Newspaper article on http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Simyaz/Newspaper01.jpg here: http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Simyaz/Newspaper01.jpg (Thanks Arilita.)

Update 23rd February:

The highly talented Nivea has joined us as our resident Modeller to create a set of "traditional"-esque clothing for some of the characters in this MOD. I've seen the "work-in-progress" design so far, and can genuinely say that it is precisely on target with how I imagined it, adding a decidedly unique look to the rather bland styles of most custom clothing (and certainly the vanilla attire.) More information coming soon.

This sounds interesting... I've been somewhat of a student of controversial ideologies, so I'll most probably play this when it comes out. One small thing:

This is the sort of MOD where anyone who is unable to look at the context objectively (instead maintaining a subjective viewpoint) will simply fail to understand anything except the Malevolent-esque storytelling, ultimately missing the complex purpose of the MOD.

I maintain that it is impossible to look at something from no viewpoint, i.e. to be truly objective about anything. Thus, I prefer to say that one should approach matters like this emotionally detached, in order to avoid being ruled by the demon within, to paraphrase the words from your sig.

Having said that, I'm very curious about how you'll deal with these matters in your mod. Unfortunately, I'm no modder and can't take up your recruitment offer, interesting as it would be to be part of such a project.

Is this mod going to use from famous ideas and such novels like "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" and "Atlas Shrugged"?

because that would be freakin sweet.

Looks like you've got that think tank of yours slaving again :) Good to see another quality mod being developed. And voice acting's the cherry on top. But why the sudden paradigm shift to include voice actors ? Meaning I've played ToTF and RT, which have minimal or no voice acting. Does the script call for voice acting, as in is the story demanding it ?

Looks excellent. Enjoyed Malevolent and Ruined-Tail's Tale, although I haven't played through the "good" side of the former mod, yet. =p

supreme_bangiras - It's closer to Tears of the Fiend, in that there are "companions" that are with you from time to time, but the quest is about the story, to which the companion aids... Rather than the story being about the companion (like RTT.)

I think that overall it has more of a "TOTF" style of mystery/questing. At a base level I'm a storyteller, so from my perspective the story is a chance to couple some of the deeper elements I've always been scared to include (due to the Effort versus Reward construct I've mentioned in my MODs previously), yet to still capture those philosophical elements within a deep, moving, motivating story.

shadeMe - The script really DOES call for voice acting to work properly... As usual, I'm trying a whole new array of elements that no other MOD of any sort has tried, and this one necessitates voice acting in some areas.

I consider myself truly fortunate to have PersianPaladin and Ibsen's Ghost with me, as those two -both very deep, thoughtful individuals- will be able to read my script, put their own spin on it, change it somewhat if necessary, and still carry all the elements I want to convey in text, which may not have -without their interpretation- carried over to Voice Acting as well.

Hell, Ibsen's ghost and myself were discussing some of the Low-philosophy elements of the The Instigator for weeks before coming to a decision to work together... And I kind of like that CHALLENGE from both sides (mine and his) to see whether we each fit the other's criteria for a "modding relationship." And I've SEEN PP (PersianPaladin) successfully approach roles like The Armour of Malevolence, Maelin and Edward Pellew (3 characters at opposite ends of the antagonistic table) in Malevolent, and -playing all 3 roles- play them AGAINST each other (as the script demanded) in a believable manner... You BELIEVE they hate each other as 3 distinct characters, despite the fact it is PP playing all of them... I'd say his is as close to Method Acting as I will see in my Modding years.

MrPOtato -

Wizard of thay - I know you're busy mate, that's why you're my "adviser" on this one... Like with Malevolent, when I doubted the EXPERIENCE of the MOD, and the deeper elements were conveyed properly, I came to you to tell me what I'd done wrong. =)

I liked your comments in the E-mail mate... Composing a novel-length reply as I write this. =P

I installed Malevolent a while back, and then realised it was nigh impossible at level one or two, so I uninstalled for the time being. I've always meant to play it again. I am so in.

So lemme' get this straight, we get an awesome new quest in Malevolent's ilk. And on top of that we get a cool armor? What's not to like?

My limited brain power reads that and thinks its someone that creates chaos like this guy from the movies. You really are a great writer and mod maker.
