The invalidity of Mer being a dragonborn

Post » Tue Sep 27, 2011 9:03 pm

Does anyone else besides me feel a little hesitant about playing the main quest as Mer, due to the lore of thuum being based around man?

Edit: Misread

I don't have a problem playing as my cuddly khajiit assassin and awesome Argonian mage. Do what you want. It's your game.

Hey, are you saying my Altmer has any less right to shout the pants off a Dragon than some stinky Nord? He can out-shout any human, any day. Period.

Anyway, it's up to the Divines to decide who gets to be Dragonborn, and they do things for reasons no one can guess.

It's a bit like Nerevar coming back as a Nord or Argonian. The divine powers (in this case, Azura, and presumably Shor in Skyrim) have a distinct sense of irony.

Same here my main character will be an Altmer mage.
Dragonborn doesn't literally mean born from a dragon. It means born with the soul of a dragon. I thought everyone had gotten this sorted out a month ago?

This makes perfect sense and I don't see why anybody would have a problem being mer I find them all the most in interesting of the races especially the Altmer.

I bet the reasons are like "Hey, watch me make this elf a dragonborn. Everyone's gonna freak out." all the gods are just trolls. XD

Hate to sound racist but, I just find it hard to picture the greybeards informing a Mer that they are the chosen one.

remember how freaked out everyone was to hear that the nerevarine was an argonian or a khajiit in morrowind? hopefully skyrim has some sort acknowledgment of the strangeness of a non-man dragonborn, but i wouldnt expect more than that; the nords arent nearly as xenophobic as the dunmer anyway.

As long as my High-Elf Dovahkiin isn't magically treated like a Nord Dovahkiin, I want Nords to be really pissed when they learn that their precious Dragonborn is a frakkin' elf.

Exactly. The Greybeards pissed them off so they thought they'd send 'em a Dragonborn descended from their most hated enemies in history :P

Screw the old coots, if they have a hard time accepting the fact that I'm Dragonborn, I'll just kick their scrawny arsses down their precious 7000 steps. It's not like they can change the fact, and with the Dragons swarming Skyrim, they're gonna have to take whatever it is they can get.

Anyone that isn't a pure bred altmer living in Summerset is a disgusting mongrel. This applies to altmer outside of Summerset Ilse. Well, at least that's what the altmer living in Summerset Ilse believe.

So no, there really isn't anything wrong with it. Also, you are being blessed with the soul of a dragon. It should come natural to speak the language of the dragon.

Spoiler
The Humans Descended from the Aldmer, kinda. If you buy into a certain creation tale.

Lore is meant to be broken.
But....being a mer dragonborn isn't lore breaking. Just like my nerevarine, who is a magister in Great House Telvanni, owns slaves of all races, and happens to be an argonian.

Martut, that's incorrect. They're both decedents of the Ehlnofey. The first split of the Ehlnofey is proto-man and Aldmer (proto-mer).

After Ysmir learned of his prophesy from the Graybeards, Nords could only see him as a dragon. So it'll be hard for Nords to get upset about an elf being dragonborn when all they can see is a dragon. Not to mention elves have little reason to wish to save the world - so elves have always been kinda contradicting themselves. I personally believe they're a little confused themselves, but I'm sure with a little work once we know the story we'll be able to work out why an elf could come to be dragonborn.

Not entirely true, but close.

The dunmer like Mundus, they don't want it to go boom. Altmer outside of Summerset Ilse are not considered altmer to their Summerset brethren, unless that altmer is an agent of the Thalamor. With the bosmer...they're odd, unless they're part of the bosmeri dynasties, in which case they would be part of the Thalamor.
