The Irony of Any Gaming Series (Specifically TES)

Post » Sun Oct 09, 2011 5:00 pm

From what I've been seeing, most people believe that Morrowind is and always will be the best TES game out. I however didn't start until Oblivion, and thought Oblivion was better than Fallout 3. It seems there is an irony in the fans that we want change and want all this new stuff, but yet we complain and moan when "it would have been better the old way." In my opinion, TES has stayed true for the most part, and taking risks is what the gaming business is all about. Sometimes we need to just accept the changes they've made and not assumed its been "streamlined" or "dumbed-down" until we actually see the game.

Does anybody else notice this similarity of irony that some of the older fans will say "nothing will ever be like Morrowind/Oblivion," and want all these changes otherwise they complain its the same game, but if too many changes are made, they complain the game is ruined?

Are you complaining about complaining? I started with Morrowind and have loved all games in the series.

You walk a fine line friend smack talking your elders :P

I can't agree, I honest to god find Oblivion more streamlined than Morrowind, and there are people who find Morrowind more Sreamlined then Daggerfall. I blame the market, people seem more interested in easy of combat and pretty pictures (and I don't say that like being a jerk or anything heh) than complex gameplay and story telling. Just he way the market is, or at least that's what I've come to believe.

I personally like change. I like having to learn new stuff.

I can understand why some people try to resist change, as I do it at times too, but I will always try to stop myself and think "I really should give it a chance before I flip out".
Even then, if there is something that I don't like (and this is the major reason I've come to love Bethesda games) I can almost always find a mod change it.

Sorry, folks get to complain as long as it's civil but we don't allow threads to complain about them complaining nor for complainers to complain about people complaining about complainers.

Guess that covers it.
